i have a one man flip over frabil that i picked up 10+ years ago i think the model is a scout. the whole thing weighs 27lbs so its a great compromise. it also has a lock where i can can set it half way open so i can see my surroundings but get a nice wind block out of it. I would recomend this to anyone the only down side is its a one man.

the entry fee is a touch high but for a chance at that boat i would consider it. i say have it in the fall after labor day there are no other tournys to conflict with and rec boater traffic is down. maybe a team style box tournement? you could do lunker divisions for different species that way a team can split the entry fee? might be harder to get enough teams that way vs individual entry.

it was a decent rod holder to it wasnt a name brand and i have been hoping to change it out for a trach system but havent had the budget yet it actully snapped the aluminum base right in half. guess i got to catch a derby fish soon -
Decided to try for the afternoon bite. launched a little after nine and the plan was to go deep but we stopped at about 120 to take a look and saw a couple breeches so decided to set. well we didnt even have all the rods in the water and the dipsey took a big hit and the poleholder snapped and i watched my wire rig swim away. I grabbed the rigger on that side hopeing and managed to hook the rod but could not move it and ended up breaking the lure off on that. The rest of the day we got one skippy and a couple of no one homes. fished from 115 all the way out to 300+ by the end of the day. If anyone catches an accudepth combo with a twilly and 7 strand I would be very appreciative. Hope others did well. saw one king in the marina and saw a couple fish caught but overall pretty slow out there

short cores are deadly for that kind of trolling. i like to run a 2 colors that way i can swing in shallow and have lots of manuverability around boat traffic also easy to bring in quick if you hit one. up untill this year that was the only king trolling I could do. both fish in my profile pic came off a short core right infront of the piers. the big one hit so hard it actully started the boat turning

why would a canadian kings come here or health care? more likely US kings are across the boarder stocking up on meds getting ready for the run

yes but not in the wild it was a special order collected in louisiana. the box was not well labeled I though it was somthing else and opened up the bag without thinking twice I jumped about 6 foot when he came out of the bag. Had to chase him down to get him back in the box they are quick over concrete

I use tubes and store them in a flasher file box. the tubes I use are actully from a science supply company they are used for cultures of fruit flys. I repurposed them and they work great. the lid has a hole in the middle so if there a little wet it will dry out. and they are fairly cheap i get them from the company i work for but they are readily available online search drosophilla vial I use them without the foam plug

I always enjoyed the rigging so using a bait that you have to tune feels very natural. for starting out though I am using premade rigs right out of the package. the rigger was a big weenie rig i won as a door prize at the lotsa marketplace the dispsey is one of the DW pre made ones I ran that behind a blue dolphin spin doc 8 inch i'll be expanding the selection over the rest of this year. Ronnie D the boat is running very well for me i'm loving being able to get out on the big lake again its been almost 20 years since the last full lake o season for me -
Just wanted to post a pic of a fish my wife got a couple weeks ago on our black lake trip. I have become convinced that a state record swims there. My brother got one many years ago that had a good chance but back than i had no idea what the record was and the pic is not digital. the last few years I have not been able to get on the water as much as I want to on this trip as it is difficult for a single person to take care of our special needs child alone for to long. I have taken to fishing off the cliff there and have put togather an entertaining way to fish for these things. I use a live bluegill and dangle it straight down with its back out of the water so it splashes around. this leads to punishing surface strikes that you hear from a ways away and if you happen to see the fish coming in you can watch it toy with a bait before inhailing it. Wish i had a video this fish circled the bait for 10 mins and swated at it 3 times plus touched it with his nose another half dozen. there was a broken off bobber floating next to the cliff that it kept going to look at. This all happend 10 feet below where we were standing on the cliff in about 2 feet of water within 5 feet of the cliff edge. It didnt make the record but weighed in ant 9.59lbs and was released the my wife wouldnt get within two feet of the fish as i held it because it kept snapping. if you look at my hand under its head you get an idea of its width those that have seen big ones up close know what i mean it spanned the width of my hand and I am not a small person. Just wanted to share this was a great memory with my wife. My niece was up there with us and my daughter on the blanket as well. It was a good day.

had a plan to fish sat and the weather had other ideas so pushed it a day and spent the time redoing leaders and adding 30lb due to the recent flea reports. I took note of all the reports that said there was a hot meat bite and had my brother pick up a package of strips on the way. well let the wife sleep in and got to the launch around 10:30. Headed west and set up in 150 on a NW troll. Things started right off had a hit on the 72ft rigger pulling a big weenie meat rig before i had 4 rods set nothing home got the riggers and dipsey set and before I could get the boards out the wire back 300 pulling meat took a big rip that came off after a minuet. things kept going from there. the peak was a double on the riggers with a 10lb king and a decent steely. As a good sign of as we were picking up the other rigger pulling a white nuke spin dr and purple mirage fly back 240 took a nice shot my first screamer of the year. landed that it was another high teens king. Ended the day 6 for 12 with 3 high teens kings two 7-10lb kings and the one steelhead. the trout took a frog down 75 and the one king on the dipsey other that that every hit was on the rigger or dipsey pulling herring strips. I have to call that a successful experiment and guess i need to get more bait heads (I own 3) fish came from 180fow to 350fow no fleas on the rigger rods but a decent number on the dipseys even caused one of our lost fish (another teenage king) thanks to all who post reports the info is invauleable

that paint board would make an awesome lure hanger for the boat -
after many years as an aquarium hobbyist the black gums look more the result of some disease process either infection or even fungus. the whole fish looks sligtly off as well. the head is two big for body but that could just be the angle of the pic. i think this fish is or at least recently was pretty sick or even wounded. fish diseases can disfigure them to a point. in the wild these fish dont often survive for long but in the aquarium world they do and I have seen far more dramatic changes to body shape and color pattern as a result. if this fish is in recovery mode the next time it is caught it may be much easier to identify but still have black gums. cool catch though nice to be able to make a lot of LOU regulars scratch there head and go maybe.

seth greens are not a great bet for lake O they would get hits but lead to a lot of tangles or break offs lot more current in the big lake so down speed and surface can be very different. vary your speed going in one direction till you hit a fish. if you change directions repeat the process
-
keep a close eye on the weather. finger lakes can turn bad quick but your always close to shore lake O you can creep a lot farther away from safety a lot faster than you think. that said dipsey's deeper and riggers up higher look for fish on your graph and target that depth. go faster than you would on the fingers. small boat with a big king is a blast

swivel is ideal but I have used an arbor know with success.

if you have to store them broken down a 12-15 foot section of mono lets you reel all the wire onto the reel. Its an extra knot in the set up but if you use mono heavier than the wire its not usually an issue. mono is cheap so its no biggie to change it out often. Makes it real easy to store the rods and even keeps newbies from getting in trouble when helping to set up.

use the pool noodle you can cut it shorter and put the leader wrapped noodle in a small plastic coffee can stores anywhare and you dont have to worry about things banging up agianst it and nicking the line. I have multiple cans seperated by lb test.
