  1. We like to run Chinook divers 5s on the inside weight in the first hole and 4s on the outside with the weight on the 3rd hole my starting spread is generally inside divers as deepest 2 riggers in the middle than outside divers up high more separation is better but as the day goes on we adjust to the depths getting bit biggest thing is let the line out slow Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. if the weather report has the waves building than they tend to be shorter choppier waves. if the waves are falling than that is when you get the long rolling waves. as far as speed controll the same as any other time. change directions untill you find the ones that ride right. use bags and higher rpms to stablize
  3. Always good to see someone help a boater in distress it can happen so quick to any one of us Good work whaler proof that there really are still good people out there Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. I run 4 wire divers braid works but during the warm months fleas can be a major problem you can run whatever you want if you have enough seperation but personally i dont like to run 2 flashers on one side it is convinenent to have shorter rods on the inside but you can run all 4 the same leangth especially if they are the same make and model. A larger dipsey on the inside will pull a bigger bend as well
  5. Which maps? Depending on which one it could be lattitude Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. That make more sense I wasnt thinking Provence if it is a hybrid it would likely be natural wonder how often that happens Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. The article calls it a potential lake o record but that's not right the world record was caught in lake o and was a bit bigger that's still a monster though been a lot this year DEC and OMNR must be doing an ok job Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Sandy has had a rough year on boats I did my splash down trip there and blew my main 5 mins into the trip lost 2 months of fishing but boat shopping worked out well for me hope it is just as fun for you Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. To the original question a handheld is better than nothing and in a small boat if you stay close to port you can still reach the coast guard which is what is really important Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. strong winds in any direction can change the temperature structure drastically in the late summer a south wind can push the warm water out and cause an upwelling you will see cold water on the surface right out the front door so this year with the late set up the somewhat cooler weather recently having the warm water later thin out like that would not be suprising at all. this year especially with the changes in the way they are trying to manage the water levels the conditions in the lake are not what we are used to this time of year with the water still high and really just on the first part of of downward trend. Instead its low and they are trying to slow the fall so there are different currents out there at least there have been for my boat this year.
  11. Which eyelet are you attaching the ball with Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. we had a lot of fun in this one it was our first year doing it. Special thanks for the early decision on the weather postponement it made it much easier to rearrange the weekend.
  13. In the fingerlake s mostly Seneca for me I always did best on 28 size spoons finger lakes tackle brand also had good days using super Slim's and going faster Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. Even with commercial packaged it has to be preserved by a method other than just freezing so store bought frozen smelt is not okay unless it's also salted or processed in some other way. Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Spin drs are very speed forgiving so they work well in a lot of spreads they are also adjustable for action this versitility makes them a favorite other styles work well but if I only had one it would be spin docs Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. They will take surface bait to can dangle a live sunfish half in the water and they will smack it Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. Did he get a weight on that thing? Might be pushing a state record Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. I use it as backer on a 200 weighted steel it's more user friendly than copper and gives me versitility out of one rod I fish out of an 18 footer so space is premium I also only run longlines when derby fishing so being able to hit several leangths on one rod suits my current needs I also run 19 strand as my dipsey line again I find it more user friendly wire knots are easy don one overhand loop and tighten that's it anything more tends to distribute stress unevenly to the strands made me nervous as all heck to try but after a few years I'm a believer. Weighted steel I use the connection the torpedo guy did the video on and if I'm doing wire to mono or braid direct an Albright knot with the wire looped and the other line wrapping there are other ways that work but this is what I have confidence in Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. On the first reel put the lead core on first than fill it with backing than Reel it off of that onto the second reel. Than you know how much backing to start with for the other one Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. Where are your releases attached? If attached to the weights it can alter the direction what area of the lake are you in there are times when you can only travel in certain directions especially fishing that far down if your dipsey wire is rubbing your rigger cable you may need to adjust position of rodholder relative to rigger Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Ska8 that is great input also consider that a go pro is digital and is not a direct exposure of the light but is it's own interpretation and representation its sometimes suprising the difference sometimes when looking directly at something vs a digital image especially In low light conditions. What the video does demonstrate very well is just how much it can change and why changes in conditions like clarity and depth can have such an effect on what works on a given day Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  24. If you only run two rigger no need for longer booms they run off the sides fine Sent from my XT1080 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. I ran a 19ft and trolled with a kicker no charger i ran the riggers and all the electronics off a seperate battery than the starter because i was always afraid of killing the starter. i rarely used the electric motor but i used to keep a battery in the boat for it it also acted as a back up for the starter battery or the electronics battery. all 3 were marnie dual purpose batteries i like the extra redundency when on the water
