Just remember pike fishing is closed right not until May. You can bass fish with artificals and accidentally catch a pike, but your not suppose to be targeting them.

I was on East Bay on Easter Sunday. You can walk across the channel without getting wet.

I'm replacing the transom on my 15 foot 1956 Arkansas Traveler. I just finished the wonderful fun of grinding off the rivits and hammering them out. The transom was 57 1/2" long with a height of 16". The problem is the width is 1 1/4". Home Depot really does not have anyting close to being that wide. Any suggestions? Should I go with the largest they have or try to join 2 sheets into 1? Any ides?

New Proposed Law Will Cripple Boating and Fishing in NY
tbulhead replied to ArneysMarina's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Just because they pass the law does not mean people will follow it. How many pleasure boaters and fisherman will actually take it. Sure you will have a lot of them take the course, but a lot of them will not and still be out on the water. Just look at automobiles. How many drivers have expired licenses, no insurence, or an expired registration. How many people have a auto license and you wonder how they ever past the test. This law will not fix anything. It is just wishful thinking in fantasy land. -
New Proposed Law Will Cripple Boating and Fishing in NY

What's next? Am I going to need a license to use a lawnmower? -
Check out what Hummingbird has coming out with the 360 degree imaging. You would supposedly see everything 150 feet away from you in all directons. That includes objects 150 feet in front of you. I'm sure at first it may be pricey at first, but it sure looks cool.

Port Bay 3/25
tbulhead replied to chowder's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
The bouys on the lake side were not in at all last year. It was an absolute joke navigating the channel at night. The red light was on the bay side and confuse people coming in from the lake. The orange crane was gone and that was always easy to spot light at night to find the channel. The channel was also a lot narrower last year and started to resemble the size of Blind Sodus. Moral of the story is be super careful with the channel. -
I know the launch closed down last year. Can I drive back there now to launch a small boat to go walleye fishing before the season closes?

I mean this outboard just runs extremely loud even for a 2-stroke. It starts right up, runs all day with no other issues other than it is LOUD compared to other 2-strokes.
-
I have this mid-70's 4.5 mercury outboard that is a 2-stroke that runs like a champ with the exception that it sounds like a siren when it is running. Besides for needing to wear earplugs, all the fish hop up on the docks becasue it is too loud. Its ruining my fishing. Any ideas on how to fix it?

After getting the new NY State Fishing Map from the DEC in the mail yesterday, I've come to the conclusion that it is pretty worthless for novice and expert anglers. Maybe elementary kids may like looking at it, but it really does not tell you where to fish, where the public boat launches are, or where to you can fish from shore. I wished the DEC made a nice website that listed and illistrated all the places to fish by county, instead of wasting our money and mailing out a huge paper map that is not so good. Just my opinion.

My neice wants to take the safety course next month with her friend, but she does not turn 12 until April. Can she do that?

At this rate I'm prepared to put the docks in March 1st and start trolling for Browns.
-
I also inherited a few Penn reels that I will put wire line on and I'll pick up some rods. The braided line is just really old on the dipsey rods and it is time to change them.
-
The reels are Daiwa 47LC.
-
I'm going to replace the braid on two dipsey rods that I've inherited. I'm positive it has been at least 25-30 years since it was last changed. What pound braid should I put on and is there any specific brand? I was thinking of loading the reels up with 80lb Power Pro. Will that work or is there something better?
-
I've got two large Penn Reels collecting dust and was thinking of putter copper line on them. My question is what kind of poles do I get to run copper line? I don't want the copper to chew up the guides on my downrigger or dipsey poles. Also do people use inline planer boards with them? If so what kind along with what kind of snaps?

I father cooked one up a few years ago because he is a walleye nut. He threw it out. He said it tasted like how the river smells.

If you have an electric trolling motor, head right towards the highest concntration of docks you can find. Try skipping a Yamamoto Senko style worm underneath them wacky style (hooked in the middle). A much cheaper alternative to the senkos are the 6 inch Bass Pro Stik-O. It has the same exact sink rate. If you have a second pole, have a crankbait or a spinnerbait on it. If it is a spinnerbait, make sure it is tied directly onto the line. Fish in the mornings or the afternoon/evening times.

I was trolling shallow with inline planers using two dipsey rods over the weekend. Whenever I got a fish, it was like reeling in a log (even a small fish). I noticed the same thing the only time I used the rods over the summer with the dipsys (with no fish on). The reels were old Daiwa Sealine and I do not know the pound or type of braid, but I bet the braid is at least 20 years old. Are both reels shot? Is the braid just so old that it is binding or rubbing against the pole/reel when wet? I had no problems using my 2 new downrigger rods with new reels and mono on them over the weekend. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Important--Border Patrol Request
tbulhead replied to Capt Vince Pierleoni's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I hate to spoil it for everyone, but unless they build a Berlin Wall between the USA and Canada, it is impossible to patrol. All it takes is someone with an innertube to cross the Niagara River or maybe the terrorists can't swim so they'll simply walk across the St. Lawarence when it freezes. They showed the trails in the snow from them crossing the St. Lawarence on ABC News last year. Don't forget about the next Unibomber, the Anthrax Scare, or Timothy McVeigh. -
