I have to replace the wire on my cannon downrigger which is not electric. I removed all the wire which was on the spool. This includes removing two screws on the spool becasue the end of the wire goes through the inside of the spool. At the very end, the wire came out a small hole at the bottom of the spool and had a cinch on it to keep it from going through the small hole. My question is where do I find another small cinch to go on the downrigger wire or is it even needed.

Just got back from a X-mas Eve party and asked my Uncle who lives down there if there is any safe ice yet. He said it would be to thin. Don't know how accurate, but I'll stay off it for awhile. Braddocks Bay has good ice.

I have a Lund 1800 Fisherman with a 115 4-stroke Johnson which came with a 3 blade prop. I can hit 42 mph when it is calm, but often when Lake Ontario gets those 2-3 foot rollers I am often doing 20 mph so my fishing buddies stay in one piece. Would a 4 blade prop improve the ride when I'm going 20-25 mph on a wavy day on Lake Ontario or not?

Are there a lot of walleys in Hemlock or just a few?

If you get tired muskie fishing, cut through the channel to Lamoka Lake. Toss small buzzbaits like Booyah Pond Magic in red over the submergent vegetation. You can catch all the pickeral you want.

I don"t hold out much hope for Lake Erie and Lake Ontario to remain Asian Carp free. The inaction or inability to disconnect the Mississippi River from the Great Lakes may eventually mirror similar decisions faced by New York State. When the Asian Carp enter Lake Erie several lakes (including Finger Lakes, Oneida Lake, and the Hudson River) will eventually become infested with Asian Carp. Now you will have communities that have invested heavily in tourism along the canal that may want to do battle with the lake communities that do not want the Asian Carp in their waters. Is now the time to start talking to the DEC to have a contingency plans for the Asian Carp to keep them out of the canal system? They could fundamentally change the fisheries in New York State. Will it mean just shutting down parts of the canal system? Or does it mean New York State will be paralyzed with inaction and the Asian Carp spread throughout the state. I think the dialogue should start sooner rather than later because I believe the carp are coming sooner. I hope I am wrong.

Yes they were catching walleyes all of May from the pier at the mouth of the Genesee using large stickbaits like Husky Jerks and XRaps, but do not eat them. The walleyes taste like they came from the Genesee River and that is not good. Does anyone know how the walleye fishing is up at Sodus or Port Bay?

I am thinking of using a heavier line for my baitcaster (I have 10 pound mono) for tossing spinnerbaits. Should I be using mono, florocarbon, or a superline (like Fireline)? I do not want to lose any distance with my casts.

Every September I go bullhead fishing at Port Bay in the morning. Today I caught 68 bullheads and yesterday I had 48. The first bite I had was at 6:45 AM and the last one was at 10:30 AM (it had finally slowed). It is really fun to watch the bass anglers fishing around me and catching nothing (sometimes its goose hunters too). Today the hot spot was in 12 feet of water towards the Southern State boat launch. Use leeches and keep your anchor lines tight.

From my understanding this Bass Pro will have a large marina located on the water.

Does anyone have any news of recent walleye action at Little Sodus Bay (Fairhaven) or at Oswego? I understand there have been several boats going out at dusk and flatlining and/or drifting about 100 yards outside the channel at Little Sodus Bay. Oswego is also always tempting, but it is a 14 mile ride on the water.
