  3. Today we had a better day fishing,6 Coho took a flasher with squid & cut Herring.
  4. Skajit River was blown out this morning. We tried trolling at Deception Pass, wow! 12 mph tidal current.8 hp Yamaha at full wot and the boat is still loosing ground to the current. No chance for a hook up there.
  5. Heavy rain this morning maybe an inch or more to fall.Small Craft warnings for the sound so we will troll plugs in the Skajit River today.Hopefully the river rising from the rain will bring in schools of Coho.
  6. Today the Coho showed up off Possession Point, fishing was very good early this morning when we caught 3 right away that were 7 to 8 lbs each. Most boats caught 2 or more Coho early. Then the wind turned East and it was like a switch was turned off.One guy reeled a nice 14 to 16 lb Coho up b to the boat,But he only got the head a sea lion got the rest.Rain for the next couple days will help move fish in to the glacier fed rivers that already have decent water flow.
  7. We have caught only 5 Coho's the last two days in the sound.Only plus is that they do taste very good from saltwater.Just wish more salmon would move in from the big ocean and stage at the river mouths.Back out in the early am.
  8. We tried the Humptulips, Queets, Hoh,& Sol Duc Rivers, all were very low on water and no fish were in yet.So we took a ferry from Port Townsend to Witbey Island and over to the Skajit River. We caught steelhead & Dollyvarden, but no salmon. This morning we hit Possession Point for sound trolling with the Spin Doctors we brought with us.
  9. We started the trip out of the Kalama Marina on the Columbia River. We had 4 drive by's,2 Kings (one 35 lbs) and a Coho. Then down river came a large ship with about 4 sheriff & 4 USCG boats and gave everyone a ticket that was within 25 ft of the unmarked channel. The ship passed by us a good 100 ft away, but we still received a $275 ticket for failure to move. The Kalama River was packed with Coho and people snagging them everywhere, did not want to be part of that combat fishing so we a headed for the Olympic Penicila.
  10. I'm also out here to spend some quality time with my uncle ray that has been fighting cancer for a long while and I just wanted to get him out fishing one last time.I hope I can get him on a nice big king, but of all just give him a fun time.

  15. I have used Seaguar Fluorocarbon 80 lb test for my Muskie Casting & Trolling Leaders since 1993 and have never had a break off or bite off.I tie all of mine with Improved Clinch Knots as well, using StayLok Snap at one end and Aussie 650 lb Swivel between main line and leader.Sometimes I use the same leader from May to Dec before it needs to be changed. The only time I use wire is when jigging or dragging Tubes across the bottom.
  16. We need the New No Resident Charter Boat License that will require a decal to show they are licensed. Also by having a State License instead of just a USCG License for Non Residents they then can be prosecuted by any NY State Law Agency, now it is the USCG only! The NYSDEC will do a better job of enforcement of those who are not licensed from out of state. Those that are running I legal charters with NY boat registration will continue as long as everyone sits back and waits for the USCG to go and ask for licences.Unless someone is advertising charter fishing trips without a license the USCG has tied hands unless someone puts it in writing they seen money pass hands for a charter. That is the problem everyone complains but when it comes down to signing a paper that you witnessed the money pass hands for the charter, most just turn their head and look away. The USCG can only give a warning without proof. The Non Resident Charter Boat License is a step in the right direction.
  17. We have representives from the ECFAB,ECFSC,CCFAB,CCFSC & ELECBA going to the meeting in Albany on September 16th to push for adding Non-Resident Charter Boats to the Non-Resident Guides fee of $500.Other Fishery Advisory Boards & Federations need to voice their opinion to their NYCC Representive before September 16th!
  18. Jack, Thanks! Still trying to catch that 40 lb King and 20 lb Steelhead.I have come close both on the Columbia & Skajit Rivers in past years.Helps when you have family out in the Pacific Northwest and a brother that has a Ford 3/4 ton diesel truck w/camper and 23 ft a Weld craft with 200 hp jet and 8 hp kicker rigged for ocean, bays and rivers!
  19. I will not be able to report on the Niagara River again until October 1st.Leaving soon for Washington State fishing trip, sturgeon, salmon & steelhead for 3 weeks.
  20. Please keep those prayers going! Joe had another bad setback, at 2 am this morning he was taken to surgery for a hole in his colon. This puts the chemo, radiation treatments on hold as well as the broken hip surgery. This does not look good for Joe at all.We can only hope that our prayers are answered.
  21. Well I hate cold fronts, looked at every muskie just glued to the bottom all night last night,no hits! Only managed a 3 lb smallmouth bass.We quit at 2:30 am when it was close to 50 degrees out.
  22. Also gold blade with white skirt spinnerbaits!
  23. Yesterday the wind was gusting to 28 mph SW, would have been a rough ride!
