  1. I talked to two captian's out of Barcelona yesterday they are running east to Brocton Shoal to 90 ft of water to catch limits of eyes. [ Post made via Android ]
  2. When you cross over the Peace Bridge into Canada, you get the I-Pass for the boat, now you do not have to call imigration as long as you stay in Canadian waters.Took 10 minutes at the Peace Bridge,I have waited over 1 hour for a control number when calling after coming from the U.S. side to Canadian waters.Besides absolutely no more then 5 to 7 boats launch at Crystal Beach,Ontario, parking is right at the launch and the area is safe.$5 credit card parking machine, printed slip for dash. They check the lot hourly looking at parking slips, keeps theft to zero!
  3. Oldman & Muskiesnpike Wecome to NY Muskies Inc Chapter 69! Capt. Larry
  4. Brad & I tried to get to the 90 ft by the wells from Crystal Beach this morning, was a little rougher then the forcast called for,had some 4 footers in the wave mix.We gave up after a good period of time working our way up the lake and stopped and setup off the Cat in 70 ft of water in canadian side of line.We could not troll into the waves or trawths because brads boat is low to the water,so we had to go with the waves at a NW angle.Could not get slow enough with the big outboard and no trolling socks.Had to settle on the electric trolling motor pulling along with the waves,1.7 to 2.2 mph up & down.We dropped two eyes close to the boat and caught a 4.5 lber, but the electric trolling motor batteries only lasted about 1 hour at full speed ahead. We gave up and went in after 2 hours of fishing. We could have done well I believe if we had a couple trolling sacks so we could have used his Optimax 135.All fish we marked were on or near bottom in 70 to 65 ft of water. The dropped fish and the one we caught came off dipsey #3 setting,6 ft leader,Renosky Cristalina Natural Perch, out 165 ft ,trying to keep speed to 2.2 mph.
  5. The Tourney Early Signup Drawing for the 2 Beckman Nets will take place at the NMA Meeting Sept. 4th,2012.still time to get in on the drawing to win a net, signup by August 31st!
  6. Going to launch at Crystal Beach,Fort Erie,Ontario early tomarrow morning. We will try the 90 ft area near the wells.I will report back how well we did tomarrow night.
  7. With the barometric pressure above 30:18 for 3 days in a row,I took a break.Winds tomarrow will most likely have me night fishing the upper niagara river for muskies instead of the head of the river or south gap for eyes.
  8. He will own the water by then as well, you will pay a tax to use the water to fish. You can join me in S.A. www.guyanafishing.com
  9. Mike,Where did Green Bay get the Great Lakes Strain muskie fingerlings they stocked? Could we shock young of the year muskie fingerlings in the Niagara river, catpture them then raise them in a holding pen till late November before release.Maybe get 12 to 13"ers out of a small number of fish.I know its hard to get numbers of young of the year, but would a 1 week project of shocking get enough to raise in a pen? Then they might be big enough to live off gobies as a food base.
  10. Mike,The Niagara Muskie Assoc Inc. has a conservation fund with some money and they could have fund raising to get more dollars. You can start small by building a couple small spawning habitats in key areas in the Buffalo Harbor. To sit back and do nothing the fishery will never improve.
  11. Chad,The nights are colder, should get some rain storms soon as well to help bring the temps down.I registered 75 degrees in the Buffalo Harbor last night.I hear that Chautauqua Lake is now down to 74 degrees down south and 75 degrees up north, but under a full algae bloom, pushing pea soup! Lunge Lumber Lapa will be out soon!
  12. What I read about Cyanobacterial Toxins is that they are always present in waters that have an algae bloom and are the results of algae rotting. The levels of cyanobacterial are at toxic amounts after heavy algae bloom die off.
  13. Mike,Dr. Kevin & You and others that have helped have done a great job helping us understand the river & harbor ecosystems.Hopefully from these studies we can get funding to improve habitat and bring the river & harbor muskie poulations back to prior years greatness. Last night I went for walleye in the harbor, was going to be to hot today to fish,I did very well! Capt. Larry
  14. I'm fishing until Dec 15th,the only back straps I get are from red stag deer in Guyana,S.A.,no licenses--no limits late Dec,Jan,Feb,Mar & April.I give the amerindians everything to eat but the back straps, then go catch peacock bass for rainforest surf & turf along with grilled plantian and mangoes.Taking a night off and going to see 2016!
  15. Only 7 Days remaining for the Early Tourney Entry Drawing for Beckman Magnum Fin Saver Nets, odds are very good-2 out of 20 so far!
  16. I get by with a 6 color and 2 ounce,3 ounce & 4 ounce Gibbs weights if you need to go deeper, can cover from 20 ft to 40 ft down at 2.4 mph.I run 10 ft 10 lb fluorocarbon leader swivel then 40 ft of mono 12lb XT first then 6 colors of leadcore, then 30 lb PowerPro power braid.I use Penn 320 GTI reel,do not need to know footage out always run out all 6 colors of leadcore then hook on small board and run out to the side.If adding weight I put the Gibbs weight where the mono ties to the leadcore,it can then pull loose when a fish gets on and slide down the mono to my swivel at the 10 lb fluorocarbon leader.Outside leadcore no weight on board,2nd leadcore 2 ounces on board,3rd leadcore 3 ounces run straight back down rod corner of the boat.Dipsey rods with 36 lb multistrand wire between 2nd leadcore board rod and 3rd leadcore down rod, usualy out 145 ft on #3 setting. Capt. Larry
  17. Last night was a good walleye night,7 fish from 3 to 8 lbs(put back a 7 & 8 lber and kept 5 smaller eyes),drifting the south gap of Buffalo Harbor with Triple D copper thumper blade with watermelon tape. Down 25 ft over 34 to 30 ft water, end of long wall to cargill pier.Might not be enough wind tonight, may have to troll. Capt. Larry
  18. Last night I was out in front of Buffalo at Waverly Shoals trolling for musklies, caught a 35"er just before dark.Moved to south gap of the harbor around 10:30 pm,caught a 27" walleye on a inside trolling turn with a 10" muskie crankbait. There were about 8 boats drifting with the wind in the south gap from the end of the long wall to Cargill grain mill pier, they were catching walleye with worm harnesses.I will go back out tonight with the walleye rods and try the spot. Capt. Larry
  19. Here are some excerpts from a NYSDOH official statement on the Cyanobacteria, or Blue Green Algae. "The Cyanobacteria is very unpredictable, and it's inborn toxins called Microcystins can cause liver, neural and respiratory problems if ingested, but the common effects are vomiting and diarrhea. The toxins are released when the bloom dies off, but the toxins remain in the water column. Swimming is not advised during this time, body parts should be washed as soon as possible after contact, and handling of fish, ropes, anchors, etc. necessitates washing hands also. Although no human deaths have been reported, several dogs have died on Lake Champlain and have been linked to the Cyanobacteria". Heavy blooms are now on Chautauqua Lake and the Middle Lake on Cassadaga. Note also: Heavy rains break up the bloom but the toxins will remain. This was posted on my site by Chuck Bataglia,Cassadaga Lakes Assoc. Lakes Manager.
  20. I'm about to give up on fighting the floating grass in the upper niagara river trying to troll nights for muskies.I'm going to head back out to 70 ft of water on the canadian line off the Cat and work the walleye that are near bottom.I did catch a nice 9.9 lb walleye crunching a 9" jtd muskie crankbait downstream in the west river in 25 ft of water. They are still catching perch in the 50 ft hole off Windmill Point as well.
  21. Blue/Green Algae can get you very sick if injested! Chautauqua Lake is under a full algae bloom as well, like pushing pea soup I've heard.
  22. I'm going to be on the water with clients the 22nd of August on the Upper Niagara River so I will miss the meeting. I can drive somewhere Thursday night and sign any paperwork that needs my siginture for the chapter charter. Just call me and let me know 716-432-0198 Capt. Larry
  23. I added (2) Two Beckman Magnum Fin Saver Nets w/6ft Handles as Early Signup Draw Prizes.Signup for the Chautauqua Tourney by August 31st and get in on the Drawing to Win one of two Beckman Nets.
  24. Perch are real tough! I can remember going to Simcoe Ice fishing and catching perch and tossing them on the Ice,they froze solid.I put the solid frozen perch in a bucket and drove 2 1/2 hours back to Buffalo. When I got home I dumped the perch that were still mostly frozen into the bathtub and turned on the water to thaw them out.I left the room and came back in an hour and 3/4 of the perch were swimming around in the tub. Now thats a tough fish!
  25. Here is a good read on Gibbs Weights with depths and speed. http://cjohn2979.proboards.com/index.cg ... hread=1772
