Lake Chautauqua, no sign of fish :X
mostlymuskies replied to splig's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
This past weekend the muskies inc tournament guys caught close to 30 muskies in 11 to 16 ft of water. Most of the fish were under 35" and biggest was 42".Dr Dave caught 4 smaller muskies there as well, short lining Wiley 5 1/2" jtd crankbaits 30 ft from the boat at 4.0 mph.He was working from 11ft weed edge to 16 ft and back. The muskies up north are still suspended down 25 ft over mostly 35 ft of water from Prendergast Point to just behind the 50 ft hole by the bell tower.Your offering you showed pictured will work there, just go to 25 ft of water and find out the exact amount of line to have out to touch bottom at 4 mph.If not using a linecounter reel count the number of level wind paw passes accross the reel as you reel in.I'll be on Chautauqua Lake this weekend give me a call and I can give you an update 716-432-0198 [ Post made via Android ] -

mostlymuskies replied to Ronix 51's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
Well the first step is getting enough fishermen to the July 25th NY Muskies Inc. Chapter 69 meeting. We have to start somewhere to have any voice at all,we need to build numbers to be heard. [ Post made via Android ] -
2nd Chautauqua Musky Tourney Oct 6th
mostlymuskies replied to mostlymuskies's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
I have also been rebooking clients to late September & October because the fishing has been very tough under this heat wave we have been under.Today Chautauqua surface temp was 84 degrees up north and 85 degrees down south.Last year on July 22nd the water surface temperature was 75 degrees.Having a tournament when catching fish is very tough to do makes it hard to get entrants the following year.I will be on the water because I have clients that put in for vacation in Nov last year and a couple who have airline tickets purchased a year in advance.I have moved everyone to later dates that I could,I have 5 persons left for July.August I will be doing walleye on Lake Erie, then back to Chautauqua for muskies after Labor Day.The only action has been from 5 am to 8 am all week! 2nd Chautauqua Musky Tourney Oct 6th
mostlymuskies replied to mostlymuskies's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
There were only 10 fishermen signed up for the July 28th Tourney when I cancelled it.It was cancelled more because of lack of interest then the fact that surface water temps today were 84 degrees and 20 ft down was 75 degrees. With 3 weeks to go only 10 fishermen had signed up,110 persons were mailed a signup sheet to bring to the June 23rd,only 3 persons did.The fishing has been very slow the past week under this heat spell as well.I use frozen milk jugs in the net with the muskies to help bring them around quicker and a hose off my livewell airator placed in next to the fishes gills, when the surface water is over 80 degrees. The Tourney was moved to October to not over stress the fish, but to also get a larger turnout of fishermen. I also think Three Rivers M.I. Chapter made the right call as well. [ Post made via Android ] -

Six colors of leadcore with 2 ounces of weight one color up,1.8 mph.I report on Barcelona Harbor every day at www.mostlymuskies.com/reports.htm [ Post made via Android ]

There will be a 2nd Chautauqua Musky Tourney on July 28th.Those planning to Enter the July 28th Tourney,if your fishing the June 23rd Tourney,Please bring your Entry Fee for the July 28th Tourney to the June 23rd Tourney. This will save me burning gasoline to make multiple trips to the bank and I will also save the mailing cost of the Tourney Packets and give you your Tourney Packet on June 23rd.The mailing of the Tourney Packets alone cost $1.90 each, most are combined mailings, but we spent $142.50 in postage for mailing the Tourney Packets for the June 23rd Tourney.Printing costs were $27.95,Tourney Buttons $49.95,Food-supplies-drinks-ice etc. $310 Liability Insurance $279.00 Total $809 100 Tourney Entrants at $40 Each= $4000.00 Prize Payout $2500.00=$1500.00 minus expenses $809=$691 + raffle donation money will be what is raised for the Bait Fish Fund. I will break the expenses down like this each Tourney. As you can see if we do not do well on the raffle table donations we do not make a lot of money for the Bait Fish Fund. The Early Signup Prizes were paid for out of my pocket, not the Tourneys money. We will purchase $3000 worth of Fathead Minnows for Prendergast Hatchery again this year, just like last year. Along with the Tourney Profit after expenses we need to make at least $500 from the raffle table at each Tourney,June 23rd & July 28th to have enough funds in the Bait Fish Fund to purchase $3000.00 worth of Fathead Minnows in 2013. Then starting 2013 all Tourney Entry Fees must be Cash paid the friday before or the day of the Tourney.I will no longer be able to run Tourney Funds through my taxes,I will be collecting social security and can not earn over $14,500.00 a year. The Tourney Funds for 2013 will either be paid directly to the NY state contracted bait fish co. or set aside in a conservation fund account with the New NY Muskies Inc Chapter, the account will be for the Chautauqua Bait Fish Fund Only and can not be used for anything else.

14 boats outside Erie Basin by northern breakwall
mostlymuskies replied to Mark Komo's topic in Walleye
Mark,A good number of those boats were guide boats taking clients for smallmouth bass. The action has been very hot, just drift with the current pull toward bird island reef dragging tubes along the bottom. As the tube bounces over a bass spawning bed it gets slamed. We had a couple bass over 4 lbs the other day and caught so many we lost count. -
This is the first time in many years that I'm this close to the June 16th muskie opener at Chautauqua Lake and still have that day available. The day was booked a year in advance, they changed the date they wanted to go on a few days ago.If no one jumps on the open date,I may get to fish the opener mysellf for the 1st time in 25 years!
