Michael, Thank you for your Tourney Entry Fee. This year at Chautauqua the water temprature is going to be above 70 degrees by June 23rd.This means the weedbeds will be high, having good oxegon levels there and also better oxegon levels out deep in 35 to 37 ft of water 25 ft down. There should be a good casting bite with chop style jerkbaits at the pocket holes and edges of the weedbeds.Trolling will be best for suspended muskies 25 ft down over the deeper water,4.0 to 4.5 mph trolling speed with 5" Baker Baits in foil perch color or Wiley 5 1/2" jtd crankbaits in brown perch color. If you don't use leadcore line ,use a snap weight of about 3 ounces to get these crankbaits down to 25 ft level. Pay close attention to bait fish depth and run your crankbaits just under and out to the deep water side of the bait fish school if fish are not setup at 25 ft down.

Last night between 10:30 pm & midnight we caught 4 walleye from 3 lbs to 5 lbs in 30 ft of water off the windmills out the south gap from the Buffalo Harbor. We used #20 jetdivers with 6 ft leader and Rapala S13 in clown color,100 ft out at 1.6 mph. From midnight on we could not touch a fish, still marked them but they shutoff.

We were fishing shallow at Chautauqua Lake, marked fish but to much floating moss and weeds to keep your lure clean long enough to get a hook up.I caught eyes shallow near DJ's Campground on Lake Erie at night a couple weeks ago, those fish have moved out already. I will try the old sailboat channel going out toward the round house from the Buffalo Harbor with worm harnesses tomarrow night. Capt. Larry

We tried out to as deep as 95 ft NW out of Barcelona Harbor on Saturday, dead sea! Got back to the harbor and switched over to the bass gear, tossed pumpkinseed tubes at smallmouth bass in the shallows. We caught so many smallmouth I lost count. Later at 10 pm we went out on Chautauqua Lake for some walleye trolling, weeds were so bad that we could not keep our lines clean, quit at 1:00 am. Capt. Larry

Last night was a little better we went 5 for 7,all from 3 to 5 lbers.I got a report from a friend about action off Erie State Park Beach,so drove to Dunkirk last night, launched and ran to the spot. The eyes liked my thunder stick jr's out 120 at 1.6 mph.We marked many fish but only caught the 5 walleye from 10:30 pm to 1:00 am.Way less boat traffic as well, was nice being able to run straight trolling lines without having someone in the way.Back out Thursday night off DJ's Campgound, since I will be at camp in Westfield,NY.

Wow! I'm fishing for walleye, what's wrong with me! I'll be in PA Thursday fishing purebred muskies, looking at your great weekends pictures has me jumping to go now. Congrads on a great birthday weekend of fish handling! -
Mark, The plan is to go out after dark tonight and troll 6 to 10 ft humps, reefs & bars from Meyers to Hoaks,to Smokes Creek and over by Donleys wall.If I have another poor night I will switch over to day program with worm harnesses in 20 to 25 ft of water off of Meyers Reef. Might even pull out the old Hot-N-Tots in purple & silver and blue & silver for daytime try.

I will be back out on Lake Erie again tonight off the windmills,I will give a report here tomarrow. I may also try Donley's wall and the fish market as well.I will bring a couple jigging rods, just in case the trolling bite is still slow. 53 degree water the trolling bite should be on.

Fishkiller16, Still sounds like it was a highly successfull trip. Now if we can get the eyes out of the South Gap in front of the windmills by the hump to start taking trolled baits, water temp has to be getting close. Capt. Larry

What are the steps to become charter?
mostlymuskies replied to Chas0218's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Here are a few things to think about when making the decision to become a charter captian. Age of your boat, you may need a marine survey to look at water retention in your boats hull to qualify for charter fishing insurance. If your health requires you to take medications some medications will require you to go through a lot of red tape to get licensed. They are now requiring you to have a back up supply of your medications on board incase your vessel breaks down, those extra medications must be able to hold up in the weather conditions your fishing in.I would go over your qualifications, sea time etc. with Dennis Daniels of SeaTec Marine,he can tell you everything you need to know and has a great training class for getting your Merchant Marine Officers License. http://seatechmarinetraining.com/ Capt.
