I'm going to Presque Isle Bay on Lake Erie ifront of Erie,PA next Saturday to try for big purebred muskies. I'll give the weeds a chance to get up at least 3/4 before I try Conesus.Every where water temps are a little colder then normal for early May. Good luck to those who go out on Conesus on the opener! Capt. Larry

I recieved an email back from NY State Assemblyman Sam Hoyt tonight. He has asked his Staff to put him in as a CoSponcer for this Bill and should get an answer very soon where the 3 Rod Rule is at this time.He will also back getting it passed.

When your talking about changing the printing setup and adding a new regulation in over 1.7 million Fishing Regulation Books the costs add up.Now if you add a stamp you have costs to design, proof & print,so if it was done it would most likely be an endorsement on your Fishing License when you make the purchase.Years back there were Musky Tags to fish Chautauqua Lake. You got 3 plastic tags for $7,once you used up your tags you could not keep any more muskies. The cost to produce and administrate the Chautauqua Muskie Tag Program was almost twice the revenue generated by the tag sales,so they scraped the program.Unless everyone that fishes paid the $10 for the 3rd Rod Stamp,it most likely would not be profitable.I would not give them any Idea's,they would probably like to raise the Fishing License $10 more for the 3rd Rod if they knew they could get it.I think they can just conform with PA and change the 2 Lines to a 3 Lines in the General Fishing Regulation,no need for anyone to pay more for it.As it is now its very hard to get Charter Clients to come to NY State to fish since the Non-Resident Annual Fishing License is $70,add $10 more dollars and make it $80 you could make it 4 rods per person and they would not come. Get the Verizon North American Plan, you pay $2.80 per MB for Internet ,but not for Roaming when you grab Canadian Towers. -
Adding the print to the Fishing Regulation Books and Administrating the $10 3rd Rod Stamp would cost more money then the $10 3rd Rod Stamp would bring in in funds! It will be a General Fishing Regulations Change, even the bank fishermen will get the 3rd rod. Last I heard the Conservation Commitee gave the Bill back to the NY State Assembly.Already passed the NY State Senate. I sent an email to NY State Assemblyman Sam Hoyt asking where the 3 Rod Rule Bill is? Capt. Larry D. Jones Vice Pres. E.L.E.C.B.A.

Well with the new 3 rod rule is in the state asembly and should pass soon. After looking at this guys new boat the thinking proccess kicked in.Now if I ever get Solgrande & Zach out in my boat I have a way to seperate the two.I can put my 3 lines out one side,Solgrande's 3 rods out the other side and then drop Zach back 100 ft behind the boat in the Boat Extension Fishing Chair, where he can put out his 3 lines!

I have not added Sponcers so far for the same reason the Tourney is stand alone from any one club or organization, the Chautauqua Musky Cash Tournament is by muskie fishermen for muskie fishermen, with all of us muskie fishermen giving back to the muskie fisheries through the Bait Fish Fund! I'll ask everyone on the 25th of June for imput from all fishing in the Tourney if we should advertise Sponcers and seek more Sponcers for product or cash donations for the Tourneys to benefit the Bait Fish Fund!

2011 PIKE OPENING DAY
mostlymuskies replied to Stinky Finger's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
I'll be on the North end at daylight,if we have no action we will hit the road for Presque Isle Bay infront of Erie,Pa after Jumbino PureBred Muskies! Capt. Larry -
I've gone to 8 lb Seaguar Tatsu Florocarbon .009 diameter and blood knot a 6" piece of 15 lb Seaguar Tatsu as the leader at the jig. Seaguar's exclusive double structure fluorocarbon (DSF) technology. Super sensitive and abrasion resistant, the soft exterior resin provides tournament-grade knot strength and flexibility, while the hard interior resin vastly improves tensile strength. Seaguar Tatsu Fluorocarbon also sinks faster so you can maximize your time in the strike zone. Like the flexible, lithe, and armored scales of a Dragon (tatsu – means dragon in Japanese), Seaguar Tatsu Fluorocarbon has a tough, but soft exterior, which hides incomparable inner strength. Capt. Could not sleep anyway after eating 11 hotdogs,2 bratts & hamburger in two days, plus Saturdays big greasy breakfast, all bound up by 1/2 a jar of peanut butter, then add in about 12 cups of coffee! Your lucky all the wind blowing cleared the tent! Must have been why you were in the mummy bag nose first! Capt. Larry
-
Saturday night I held the tent support poles like my life depended on it has 55 mph winds sounded like a freight train rolling through bending the tent like a teardrop, thaught we were going airborne to WV!Zach snored right through it all,Bob hid in his sleeping bag in denial and Brad had a little piece of the back of his shiney head showing from his mummy bag.Only thing I had going for me was a nice warm electric blanket as it got down to 37 degrees.

I use only 200 ft of PowerPro 80 lb test powerbraid and 50 lb cheap mono as backing. To detremine how much powerbraid I'm putting on the reel spool I use this procedure;tie the powerbraid to the reel spool with level wind paw off to one side of the reel, wind on the powerbraid untill the levelwind paw goes to the other side of the reel, then pull the line back out to the tie at the spool and measure it.Now I know on each level wind pass to each side of the reel just how much line is being put on the spool.Wind on the 200 ft of PowerPro 80 lb test, bloodknot the PowerPro to the 50 lb Mono and finish cranking the reel until the spool is full. Now you can do the next part two different ways, fill a milk jug 1/2 full of water tie on the Mono end of the line and with drag loosed all the way drive the boat away untill you come to the PowerPro tied to the reel spool,I do this walking down the neighbors block.Cut from the reel spool and hold the tag end and motor back to the milk jug,tie the PowerPro to the Jug and Mono, throught the eyes of the rod,to the reel spool.Drive away unitil your dragging the milk jug, stop and start reeling in.The milk jug 1/2 full of water will keep tension for a tight wind of the mono wraps as you reel in.When you get to the bloodknot stop, this is important. You will need a tape spool of pipe thread tape for the next step. Wrap the tag end of the Teflon Pipe Thread Tape around the Mono side of the blood knot 4 times, grasp the PowerPro and Teflon Pipe Thread Tape together and wind on all the way accross the spool and back, break the Teflon Pipe Thread Tape and twist it around the PowerPro 4 times. You have now filled the groves in between the larger diameter Mono for a smooth surface for the PowerPro to wind on for even lay beside wraps for longer casts and less Profesional Overides(backlashes). You have also locked the Mono in so there will be no slipping on the spool. Also from going through this whole proccess your spool in totaly full, using only 200 ft of powerbraid and will give you nice long casts every time.Don't worry about the Teflon Tape,if you do get a fish that takes out more then 200 ft,not likely, the whole setup will flow right through the levelwind and rod eyes. Ronix,I watched the video,Marc is right on the stress issues, look at the fishes eyes if they look like they are starting to form a gloss like cataract over their eyes, leave the fish in the water.Picture should be in the water if fish is stressed. If using a net, scoop the fish and then use the net as a holding pen next to the boat, never lift a fish out of the water to the boat in the net,the fish will roll up tangleing the lure hooks in the net mesh, usualy means the fish is out of water to long and will die.Never let a muskie go from your hand in the revival stage until you see the little fin on the fishes back toward the fishes tail start to waiver from side to side,by then the fish will be trying to fight from your hand.Early release will usualy mean a belly up fish. Do not pull fish back & forth through the water, this drowns the fish, hold the fish upright under water pointed toward wind or current moved water direction. Yes,handling fish when they are over stressed especialy durring very warm water conditions, you can loose the fish with to much out of water time, best to leave fish in the water for the picture & release when water temps are 70 degrees and above. Posting picture never was a problem, was the words attached with the picture! Winternet--18 more days! Capt. Larry

Tossing 1/2 ounce brown bucktail jigs tipped with worms in 22 to 25 feet of water off the the humps off Calumet Island throwing to deep water working the jigs back toward the humps was what worked for me a couple years ago in mid June. Also at the shoal just above Calumet Island on the upstream side we did well on walleye right on the edge of the channel using the same jigs working from deep back to the channel edge.Water temp was around 61 degeees then. OOPS! Didn't mean to forget Ray J. Now he is going to want me to put him on a Dozen Muskies next trip out! Capt. Larry

The Walleyes will be more apt to be near the tribs or shallow bays where they spawn the second week of May. Some good places to try would be Bayfield Bay(Wolfe Island), Carleton Island dropoffs & humps and the shoals around Fishers Landing. Last season in front of Foxy's (Fishers Landing) on bucktail jigs tipped with a worms was the ticket. There are walleyes all around that part of the river early in the season. Try Large black Tube Jigs 5", Triple "D" spinner harness w/ worms or trolling stickbaits along the edges of shallow structure (14 to 25 feet). In Bayfield Bay try casting Bluefox #2 Buctails tipped with worm or Countdown Rapalas around the shoreline of the bay. Capt. Larry D. Jones http://www.mostlymuskies.com
