When trolling at the high speeds we pull crankbaits through the water on Chautauqua or the fast current of the Niagara River and you get weeds on your bait and it starts twisting or wraping with another line out, what a twisted mess your going to have without a Swivel. Some jerkbaits like ReefHawg's,Lationo and Leo will roll over when worked fast, without a swivel you would be all twisted up.The Aussie Swivels I use have a larger surface area where the line goes through the eyes where tied and line is double looped through,so wear is over more area for the Fluorocarbon on one end and Powerbraid at the other end of the swivel.I would not want to trust Flurocarbon to Powerbraid at the working end of your leader over time, the Powerbraid may wear on the Fluorocarbon at the knot.I just think that it will be a weaker link without the swivel and open the door for uneeded line twist and tangles! Lance, I also would like to welcome you to LOU.I would bet that your Ready Eddie is one that has a great back up,I have two out of six that back up a good two feet in a straight line, they catch most of the fish.I hope to see you and others at the Butler Fishing Show. This years Chautauqua Tourneys will be fun and will also support the bait fish purchase at a much needed higher level. Capt. Larry

Bone Jaring Muskies of Chautauqua - Part I
mostlymuskies replied to BlueEye's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
Mike, wrote a very good article on Chautauqua Muskies! Capt. Larry -
My goal for 2010 is to raise enough funds for the Chautauqua Bait Fish Fund to have enough money to purchase enough fathead minnows to feed the musky fry in all the outside holding ponds at Prendergast Hatchery,so all the musky fry stocked in NY waters are as long as they can possibly grown before release, for better chances of survival. Then I would like to spend time on the water with some of the many LOU fishermen I have met through this message board and at the Chautauqua Tournaments! Happy New Year To All! Capt. Larry

Last Lake Erie Musky Trip

My friend Bob's brother in law passed away this morning, prayers for Bob and his brother in law's family! If the musky gods give us a break in the weather next Monday or Tuesday we will try to get out agian then. Capt. Larry -
Today at 11:00 a.m. my friend Bob & I will take his boat for the run up the Niagara River past the Peace Bridge to the right of Waverly Shoal in Canadian Waters for one last try at a Hawg Musky.Barometric pressure is again'st us at 30:34 and rising, water temp is 41.5 degrees and the winds are light but bitter cold out of the North. We will drop down the Legend Plow's and crawl along at a slow trolling speed of 1.5 mph.Water clarity is about 5 feet with a green tint.I'll give a report when I get back in. Capt. Larry
-
Your better off with a Honda 15 hp 4-Stroke,you can troll fast and the weight is the same as the 9.9 hp,just ported bigger. The 15 hp Honda pushes my Tracker Targa 2000 fiberglass boat to 14 mph.At speeds of 4.5 mph and under your only using 1/3 of trottle and its very quiet. My Honda 15 hp has 15 years of hard trolling, doesn't miss a beat! Capt. Larry

Wow! Only Three boats in the Buffalo Harbor this Sunday at 11:00 a.m.. Winds light, waves down, barometric pressure down, water temp 45.5 Degrees, but water visability only about 1 1/2 feet.Could be a big fish day for one the boats that went out.Gizzard shad should be in now, only today and Monday before the NY Musky Season closes on Lake Erie and the NY portion of the Upper Niagara River. Canadian waters of Lake Erie & Upper Niagara River open till December 15th. Capt. Larry

I want to try to spend at least one day on the water with each of you next year! Capt. Larry D. Jones -
Brad, Ed Lationo passed away,he was making Lationo Jerk Baits right up to his last days.I do not believe Howard Wagner at the Fish Education Center has any left either. Leo Jerk 6" will work simular, get all black w/silver glitter belly. The Newman Jerk is also a good copy.Happy Hooker Bait Shop has both! Capt. Larry

Chad,I decided to pull the picture on my message board as well since that seems to be his wishes! Good luck on Chautauqua Lake!I took a boat ride yesterday in the Buffalo Harbor with Capt. Jim Hanley, lost a big fish when client let line get into the prop as the wind pushed the boat sideways. It happened so fast, could not even blurt out lift rod around the big motor, zip zip zip wrap gone.We got back the Perch Bait in Brown Perch color,it had three very large teeth buried in top of body. Today I'm very sore, will not be going back on the water anytime soon! Water temp 48 dergees, getting very close to the majic 46 degrees! Capt. Larry
-
I have been waiting for that Montreal phone call, sure I'll get it soon! Location was never given and picture doesn't show any good background to track like some of the other pictures taken. Nice Big Fattie and picture should be shown! Capt. Larry
