Presently there is $2756 in the Chautauqua Bait Fish Fund. The bait fish being purchased for 2010 will not be limited to just feeding musky fry for Chautauqua Lake.We will be also feeding the musky fry to be stocked in Cassadaga Lake,Bear Lake,Allegheny River and Waneta Lake.So a donation to the Chautauqua Bait Fish Fund feeds the musky fry for all of NY State Pure Bred Muskie Stocking! The inside turn of Tom's Point usualy holds bait fish & muskies when the water temp is down below 52 degrees.I would try an all black Suick Jerkbait at the drop off edges. If no luck try an all black magnum BullDawg worked deep down the edge.Trolling I would go over the 25 to 26 ft water between Long Point & Tom's Point with Legend Perchbaits in BlackPerch or BrownPerch colors at 4.0 mph,75 ft of line out.Pay close attention to bait fish depth and adjust one crankbait to be at the bait fish depth and one to be about 5 ft above! The storm that rolled in today with wind gusts to 50 mph and heavy rain has canceled charters on Chautauqua Lake for me today and tomarrow. So I had to move them to this weekend so I will not be able to make the Tourney.I'm not sure if Guide Mike Sperry is still going or not. Zack you stay out of Oldman's casting spot! Capt. Larry D. Jones www.mostlymuskies.com Repeatability Is 90% Of The Hunt!

anyone been pike fishing Conesus?
mostlymuskies replied to NitroMusky's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
Conesus Tiger Muskies average between 25" to 30",but they are like little fat footballs.Occasionaly you can get one near 40" and they will be heavier then a 45" pure bred muskie. We marked a few tiger muskies near the bait fish schools mixed in with the walleye's,everything was near bottom in 26 to 28 ft depths. But with the cold front I never even seen a bass or walleye caught by the other five boats near us. Vince from Vince's Spinner Shop and I fished Conesus today. We trolled StudDog Inline Spinners and cast the weedlines in McPherson Cove, lots of baitfish,no hits.Seagulls were down on the water all day,ENE wind too! Then going back into the launch a tiger muskie rolled on top between the red & green bouey's,I think he was laughing at us.Back to Chautauqua on Sunday. Capt. Larry D. I have noticed simular experiences in lure color, most of the firetiger color lures were catching muskies under 40 inches as well.Brown Perch has caught me the most fish over 40 inches, but Black with silver glitter on the belly has caugh all the muskies over 45 inches. Then over 5.0 mph to 6.0 mph has caught all the muskies 40 inches and under and 4.0 mph to 4.5 mph have caught all the muskies over 40 inches. Also this year 75% of the muskies I've caught & released have been out over open water away from the weedbeds.Chautauqua has been very good for me this year with 68 muskies to this point! Zach,I'm using Aussie Swivels that are 3/4 of an inch long and 1/4 inch around,I'm dredgeing bottom on purpose to get the silting effect to catch more fish. There was a craze once to not use snaps but use splitrings instead on the end of leaders.I found it very hard to put lures on and take them off on a regular basis, even harder in below freezing conditions.I guess using a splitring in place of a swivel would work.On some of your smaller crankbaits the lighter weight of the splitring is going to change the dive curve angle and action of the lure a little.Exterimenting with splitrings instead of swivels will be how you find out if depth changes or action changes. Go for it and let us know how it works for you! Capt. Larry

Swivels not only keep you from getting line twist from lapped lines, weeded lures and rolling muskies, but catch weeds before they get to your lure. At very slow speeds crunching near bottom in cold water temps in the late fall the swivel actually drags along the bottom kicking silt up into your crankbait offering, almost giving that bottom feeding look! With my leaders being 3/4 the legnth of my rods when I see the swivel I know its time to get the net close to the water to scoop her up.I would think also powerbraid tied directly to a haywire twist on the end of a wire leader would be a weak point to break, even more weak if it starts twisting at the tie on area. Go to Pigeon Lake 1 1/2 hours northeast of Toronto.Green Acres Campground for the place to stay. http://www.greenacrestrailerpark.com/ The owner John McBride use to guide muskies there as well and he fished in the PMTT,he can give you good info on where to start your musky hunt. This is a big numbers lake for muskies, good both casting or trolling. There are 2 spots left for the Tourney,I will be leaving for Chautauqua Lake Tomarrow in early a.m.,so if your going to email me to get one of the last open spots you will need to do so today.Once I leave I will have no access to the Internet,so then we will take the first 3 fishermen that walk up,unless the last 3 spots fill today. We have 73 Fishermen Entered in the Tourney as of today, there are 2 remaining spots. At this point there is not enough time to mail me a check,I deposit it and return your release forms by Thursday morning when I'm heading down to Chautauqua Lake.So anyone else wanting one of the last spots either stop by Happy Hooker Bait Shop before Thursday and leave a check made out to Mostly Muskies or email me at [email protected] by Wendesday morning that you will be bringing your Entry Fee to Fridays Seminar or to Prendergast Launch between 6:00 a.m and 9:00 a.m. on Saturday Sept. 19th.Those who make contact will get in before those that drive up last minute.Since we already have the Chicken Dinner count set with the vendor those getting in the Tourney now will be on standby for Dinner. Some may not show Saturday for dinner and we may have enough to feed those who got in after the dinner order was confirmed at 60.If not the $5 will go to the Bait Fish Fund! __________________ Mostly Muskies Charters & Guide Service Captain Larry Jones Web Site: http://www.mostlymuskies.com -

I heard Adam's 48" Fattie came on a Wiley FatBoy,but that did not come from Adam telling me,I heard it from someone else.Adam runs Tuff Shad,Wiley's & Perchbaits.I would say your chance for the biggest muskie in the Tourney will be on a Perchbait, but if they are hitting smaller more active baits you could miss catching the winning fish by running alll big baits.I would run your hotest Tuff Shad and a Perchbait in Firetiger out 90 ft at 4.5 mph! Zach,Don't forget to get a couple Jones Bait #320's in Black w/Silver Glitter Belly! www.jonesbaits.com Howard in no relation to me,but there are times when his bait out fishes everything you put in the water. If you noticed latley the smaller crankbaits have been doing better then the bigger stuff,5 1/2" Wiley's,5" Tuff Shad ,5" #320 Jones Bait have been catching more fish then Perchbaits,Plows,Hookers or Depthraiders.Darker colors have been working better then Firetiger as well.I'm headed back down to Chautauqua at 4:00 a.m. tomarrow tru Sunday,I'll give a report when I return.
