Counting the days till I get back up there. Never saw a Bear up there,at least not yet. Glad you had a good time.

Is Rodney Dangerfield in the area?
-
It seems to me we are about 2 weeks ahead in the summer season. I predict an early fall. Any darker ones yet?
-
Just drove by it on my way home from work at noon, Less than 1 ft.
-
My Prediction was 4th of July last year I think. Was only a matter of time. Quick , Shut off the falls.

I hereby invoke the " Respect & Protect" policy on my spot. But there are many & I mean many spots to fish up there. Amazes me the lakes & flowages I pass on the way up that look fishy to me & Nobody fishing them. Saranac is a great place by all accounts. On a canoe trip I would use a run & gun strategy. Spinnerbaits , # 5 mepps , etc. Black gold orange for me. Heard in the baitshop big J 11 & 13 rapalas in gold orange were good on Saranac. Over weeds & edges. Have Fun. Wife has Pics on her phone. I'll try to get them on. Go to Walmart & get some 18 lb BB wire leaders or be prepared to donate . Big Pike & Bass in there.

4 days went by to quick. Great weather in a great location. Arrived to find our campsite was not vacated yet ,so the wife & I launched the boat to kill time. 4th cast, right on cue , I hit around a 4 lb smallie. My wife excaimed, "look at the size of that thing" . The fish was big also. Not many Pike, 7lbs the biggest , but many big bass, 21.5 " the biggest. What worked? 3,4,5 " Senkos in Blk & dark colors mostly in 4-15' . Lovin my Braid more & more. 10 lb P PRo w/ a 20 floro leader ( fightin chance w/the pike)tied w/ my version of a Rapala knot to 1/16 - 1/4 oz shakey head( Spot remover best ,but still haven't found one I like). Not a fish on a crankbait, topwater or stick. A few and the biggest on a spinnerbait. Fresh Blueberry pancakes on my campstove, A nice fire lakeside as the sun goes down , Hearing the call of the loon at night to break the silence as I lay in my tent , seeing the bald eagle, no phones & good fishin. What more could a man ask for? Back in Aug.

This info came from a guy who fished it back in the 50's ,right up till recently. He was talking about warm water species. Bass , Pike & the like. I do agree with him on some level . When I was a kid(before the present day rock jetties & breakwall, the wood dock days ) ,it seemed to be better.

An older guy told me once that the watershed for the Oak drains from all the farmlands upstream . All the fertilizers & weedkillers come down the stream from above. Was his thought that is why the fishing is not as good as it once was. It kind of makes sense but I don't know how much I buy it. Been at my bro's place at Johnsons. Been days that it stunk to high heaven there also, but more from the lake. Can't wait till I see the ADKs & smell that mountain air !!

After working my butt off and not having a day off since Fathers day, I am off to the ADK's once again . Can not wait to be on the lake and away from the BS we all face every day. My cares just fade away & I realize what is really important to me and all the STUFF I don't need.Great Northern Pike , Smallmouths& my buddy the Bald Eagle await my arrival . Will let you know how I make out. If you have the misfortune of having to appear in front of the Judge in the town of Gaines , think of me. I just completed construction of his new bench. Mention me and maybe he will give you a break.

My 1986 35 Merc is running Fine But it seems when running at idle for a while I have to pump the primer bulb. Thinking maybe a bad tank or motor connection . Hoping it's not the fuel pump? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Fished Blind Sodus this Weekend & had a blast. Stayed at Shady Shores as we did the last few years. Fishing was very good w/ many largemouths & a few Smallies w a few northerns. . Plastics were the go to 's. Sun morn my buddy hooked somthing large . Played it a few minutes & finally pulled a large snapping turttle to the surface. Great BBQ & shore lunch as usual from my Bro , Soul Ron. Could not have had a better weekend. How did the guys that targeted lake smallmouth do ? I am curious if the Smallies are making a comeback.

Lots of fun ,arn't they. My buddy from Conn use to bring me a few flyswatters . We would both hold one & do battle with them. Don't know if it did any good ,but at least we got some payback.

Did the season open & I don't know it?
-
Yup on both counts. Try 12-25'. There aren't a lot of fish out our way. I use to troll some small deep divers long line and catch some fish. Have talked to guys that do real well with this up Shadage way. One guy many years ago trolled Spoonplugs & would do 30 or so on a good day. I like to drift & jig but the Gobys will drive you nuts sometimes.

Go out of the Harbor & go east about 1/4 mile. Head out till you hit the drop. Have done OK over the years there. Also you can head west about 4 miles or so to fish in front of Green Harbor on the structure there. Nothing like east end of lake but not bad.

Saw Bucks Two different times for me out of the Oak. -
Rocky for sure. Fished down there a lot as a kid & caught some huge ones. My dads fave to eat. Good to see the Smallies & Rock bass making a comeback from VHS.

Spark Box?Had mine in my 1986 repalced a while ago. A few weeks ago my bro's 200 Mariner( made by Merc) in FLA was doing similar things. Changed the Spark box & it runs perfect now.

Anyone on here run a blacks stacker release?
Has Been replied to zackblain's topic in Tackle and Techniques
For my Stackers I use a Roamer , then attach an Offshore( pinch pad w/ 6" cable and snap) to the metal clip on the arm. When the Roamer hits the pulley on the end of the rigger ,it releases it and it slides down the cable. Been doing it for years w/great results. Years ago a buddy of mine who was a charter capt. put a crimp on the cable about 10' above the weight. The Black would bee held there by the upward tension on the rod & drop down on the release. -
Hey Spoonfed, PM me your address & I will send you out what was Killer for me. Went to Fair haven opening weekend with my crew for about 20 years straight . Heard that Mexico was good also . Looked at topo map of bottom and saw what I consider good structure as I recall. Never made it out that way cause Moon Beach & the state park was so good to us.
-
Is that under the the Sandy Bridge?
-
Use to fish out of Fair Haven & Sodus Quite a bit. I liked to jig . Drifted in 10-30' , 12-20 avrage. Back then all we used was 1/8 0z brown or Black /purple hand tied bucktails. With the gobies, Big tubes that resemble them fished on bottom. Drop shotting also. Need to find the spots & stay on them. Fish don't show up a lot on sonar cause they like to hug bottom. We would be hammering them & guys would troll around us only catching an occasional fish. A 7' light action spin W/ 4# line. Getting the right sweep on the drift is key. Most hits happen on the fall. Semi slack line on the drop & watch for a tick . Drag anchor to slow yourself down a bit in a breeze. Fish behind the anchor in the stirred up sediment.

I have been running Buckets since I had my first boat back in 1976. I run one off each side of my 21 ' F glass hard top. Take pail & drill about 15 , 3/4" holes in bottom. remove wire handle. Drill 4 holes across from each other in handle rim & make harness . Tie rope to that & attach midship. I adjusted mine to be forward of my outdown riggers. You can run one or both. I adjust my speed w/ them more than using my throttle. Going into a chop or in the ditch they seem to stabilize my boat , but you will use more gas. If They are both out & I hook a big one, I drop them both in to slow down . Can't tell you how many times I saw fish down , pulled the pail and within seconds a rod went off. They do tend to bounce off the side of the boat, but it hasn't done any damage to the boatsince I got it new in 1986 , no scratches or dents . I am so used to using them & they are so easy to retrive /deploy,I don't want anything else. Never can I remember a fish getting around one , or any other problems. I find stacks of them on the jobs . FREE. I had a plate, I hated it. 3.9 at idle is fast, try to adjust your motor.
