  1. Shakey Head worms & Hula grubs .
  2. Goof- Off or WD 40 for tape, I use paint stripper for Clear coat or other paint. Shine Silver w/ car polish& buff w/ cloth & elbow grease , wipe w/ thinner ,then clear coat , or spaypaint ,then clear. Make sure paint & clear is compatible or it will alligator. I have redone some of my spoons & ones I pick up at yard sales many times. Hit some homeruns & have had some duds. All part of the fun.
  3. Get Better , Man. The place ain't the same without ya.
  4. Painting is about the prep work. If the paint under isn't on good ,I don't think the clear will help a lot. My new NKs don't hold finish as well as the older ones did.
  5. In my little bass boat the same thing happens. I switch it on & off a few times & it will work. Pulled the pump off the base to get to the impeller oncev & found some weed around it . I think it gets sucked in there & dries/hardens & wont work till it gets wet & softends up so it will pass thru.
  6. I have been fishing the spring derby since they gave away a row boat. If this morning wasn't my best It wasn't by much. Daybrake started w/ a tripleof kings . The next few hours were steady bites w/ fish on almost constantly. After 8 they slowed a bit but were still there. What worked? First hit came on a Mag Heddon Sounder w/ 2 willow leaf blades. Put it back down & 10 seconds later it went off again ,screamer, got under the dipsy & broke off. Sutton 38 4' behind a 00 dodger took two .,Fish hit at 70 ' swam to surface jumped & the bb swivel broke. 3 hit a pearl green Canadian plug(Sim to a #3 j plug). The rest were Mostly Mags that switch to 28s as sun came up . glow white spin / hipnotist on the diver 180. I have fished spring derbies I could not do anything right in .Seemed like this year I couldn't do anything wrong. This Year ,the amount of hits & fish was incredible. Just not lucky enough to tag one for the leader board. Mostly kings to 20lbs ,a few lakers, 2 cohos a steelhead and about a 10lb atlantic. My bro said I never new the fishing was this good out here.

  8. A few years back A company out of Canada was contracted to treat Sandy Creek w/ lampricide.
  9. I would mount a 2x10 across the gunnels. position it so you can kind of lean on it when you are playing a fish& rigging. , so you won't fall out of the boat.Maybe elevate it a bit. Wrap it w/ In/out carpet , then apply your riggers & rod holder. Did this on my first 17' boat. If you do it right you could make it so it is removable when you fish bass. What do you need to access while Salmon trolling back there? I have a similar side cons 16 ' that I did the same thing with. I use it each fall for staging kings & do well w/ it. Ease & safety of rigging is paramount .
  10. The Maritime Museum may be interested.
  11. Is this site going to consider a "Don't name location " policy like the steam site? I thought we wanted more guys going & having succes. And T Bro, the fishin is a whole lot easier on the west end of the lake this time of year & always has been & always will. Location is the first key to success in the fishing formula. I have come full circle in my years & tell anyone anything & am happy for their success.
  12. Was coming home from the Niagara bar a few years back. On the way home Spring broke less than a mile from my house.Limped home, Jacked up the trailer, took it of, went to Thruway spring in Roch off Mt Reed, they sold me a new one, installed it ,Went back to the Bar the next morn. Pretty easy fix for the most part.
  13. Short trip Mon AM . Same Area ,but some kings decided to show their faces. 18 & 16 lbs & dropped another. Some hog lakers also -17 lbs. All mag spoons , Frog , Silver purple. Mt dew spin w/ pickled sunshine fly on the diver at 180. Best fishing I have seen in a long time this time of year at the Oak. Hope it lasts till Sun.
  14. Repeat of the last 2 days except no kings. . Got another Nice Atlantic. Blk Orange Lazer 28 was best although just about everyrthing got hits . . Dipsies w/ green dot spin & glow fly also.
  15. Same Deal Today , but not as many. My son( on the leader board ,so is now cut off) decided to sleep in, so only two of us. East wind chop made for tougher fishing. Blew some boats down our way& Saw a lot of hookups on them .One Quad today. Hope water does not get messed up. Also saw some Smiley faced balloons floating. Jigged for perch in the creek after getting in & got a nice mess to fillet .Fish Fry tonight!
  16. I take what the lake gives me. Today it was deep. Next day could be shalow Shallow w/ sticks.

  18. Be safe out there. See you on the Leader Board! Ain't we so damn lucky to have this in our back yards? Appreciate it, guys.
  19. I am not a mechanic & don't claim to be. I can do some stuff but Rusty rat is right, take it to a pro.I learned my lesson. In the long run it may cost you less. And more important, I want it to run when I go fishing, with no problems, & peace of mind.
  20. If these guys are your friends , you shouldn't have to ask, they should offer. You should know the ones who are tightwads. I never asked , but that was before gas was this much.If it's a first timer or relative , you should pay. For a Derby, or trip , we would each put 100 bucks or so into a "kitty", one guy was in charge of, and pay for expenses out of that.
  21. In choppy water I will run my sticks back 75-200 ' W/ ball just under surface to 10' off the bottom. Have gotten some NICE kings over the years doing this .Remember to compensate for the stick diving.
  22. There must be a short somewhere. Try to isolate where it is . Look at all the wires you can access or see to see if they are bare , touching each other , etc. Take the covers off the lights themself to see if they are installed corectly. Leave them out and turn on the switch and see that may be it. Might need a handfull of fuses. Find the problem ,don't install a bigger fuse. Buzz words for elec connections are CLEAN & TIGHT. Good luck.
  23. Raven, take it from a guy who knows, save your fingers. For some guys on here, it's all about the numbers.
  24. My Question was do dead Salmon ,and to clarify, Kings sink. My experience is that I have seen many bouncing down the stream during the fall run. Have also released many to give them a chance, especially majors ,watched them in flat clear water kind of slowly sink as we trolled away , knowing they were probably not going to make it ,and thinking afterward , I should have boxed them. Read an artcle a few years back that kings move rapidly & frequntly up and down the water column ,and spend a lot of time 300-400' down. Maybe the depth change does not affect them as much as other fish, their body mass is denser & allows them to move up & down easier, thus the sinking. But it's pure speculation on my part.
  25. Left mine in the barn for 5 years w/ half a tank . Took it out, drained the gas , ran that 25 gals in my truck & mower. Filled w/ 5 gals fresh & a $12 bottle of red stabil, pulled plugs ,changed & sprayed in some fogging oil in cyls, hit it w/ a shot of starting fluid, let it idle in my driveway w/ the muffs for about an hr. Runs better than ever.
