Rookie Voyage out of Braddocks
Has Been replied to dickey's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I don't have down speed or temp ( really wish I did) but I manage. Look for bait & fish around & thru it. Keep thing simple. I have surface speed & temp which helps. I also have a hand held GPS that works great for SOG( speed over ground )& stay on the spot. . Use lures that are proven . you can get those off here. Everyone has their favorites. mine areNKs Glo grn on Black silver& Blk or Silver purple,42 second for first choices. I like leads of 10 - 40 ' for my spoons. Don't be afraid to troll a little on the faster side & S turn. Direction of troll is important as a speed factor when you hookup to pay atention to. We did pretty well this weekend but their were times we went a few hrs without a hit. Lastly, sorry to say , but you have to "Pay your dues" so to speek. First light is usually best for kings I have found. Good Luck. -

Yesterday was his other birthday. The day he received his Heart transplant 14 years ago so I'm glad the good lord put him on one. Nice to be back out with a good friend. ====================

Village Inn , Ah yes, a great place to eat. Haven't been in a while & may go this weekend with my out of town guests. Ray is correct on all.

Bang for our buck, thats what I'm looking for. Yes, they have a job to do but it seems to get broader & more expensive to do each day getting away from it's original intent. Who's out there on the 30 lines? Mostly charters & Hardcores as I see it. Is there a lot of lawbreaking going on out there on a regular basis?( No one from this board would ever ) Are they doing their job In THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY POSSIBLE is my concern. On one hand DEC wants to make cuts which enrages some but when they seem wastefull some say let them do their job. Maybe the extra rod police could be a place to cut. DEC has gotten political like all gov entities and it needs to stop. Don't worry about DEC wasting my money? Come on. I'm all for the DEC . But as citizens we are suppose to question our gov on what we feel is not right. I would think some would know that.
-
Don't complain about them riding by ?This is commonplace? The DEC states that they don't have 2 nickles to rub together & need progam cuts & we are 10 miles offshore riding around looking for extra rods at 12 gal / hr? How many tickets written compared to expenses incured , or net profit. Not an efficient way of doing buisness IMO.But thats how it goes I guess. No wonder we are in the mess we are in and are so broke. In Rochester, they can't even figure out how to turn the water off for crying out loud. What was I thinking?
-
Coast guard, boarder patrol , Sherrfiffs & DEC patroling the same water. I don't think 500 ft of water in LO is the high crime district. I don't fear them cause I don't break the law, at least I don't think. A total lack of efficiency & waste of our tax dollars. What are they looking for out there& what were they going to do ? Stop me & make me pull all my stuff in,check me out? Ther time can be better served elsewhere. It's a joyride at our expense. Gov waste again.
-
What is their job? If they are looking to write tickets, go where the most people are. Sorry, our time & money need to be spent the most efficient way possible from here on out. Burning gas & putting hrs on an expensive motor ain't to me. Troopers patrol where property & people are.Sherriffs & Boarder patrol are out there to take care of security. Not much going on 10 miles off shore.Walk the pierheads or go up the creek . More bang for my & our buck. Check me when I come in. It's a joyride.

What is the DEC doing riding aroung the lake out in 500 ft of water? They circled around the back& sides of my boat about 75 yrds off. My guess is they were looking to see if I had too many rods out ( That's a laugh in itself) or checking my stickers. With the budget woes , why are two DEC officers burning up gas on joyrides ?

You are getting old enough to be one of the people Sen Libous is talking about. Never slow down, Never grow old. Enjoy your day & stay healthy.

Saw them on Cabalas after your post. theyhave the salt version that looks interesting. Kind of a cross between a single & treble. Have some on Rap DT crankbaits that do well . Never thought of them for spoons. You could be on to something.kind of pricey though.
-
I have 2 on my 16 ftr that do the same thing . It's either stopped or drops like a rock .Worked fine & came on all of a sudden. If you figure it out , let me know. They are older ones.
-
Caught one of those in Sandy about 25 years ago or so . Was told that it was a Palamino Rainbow. Looked exactly like that . Was about 5 lbs.
-
Try a Horny Toad Grn or Brn pumpkin. Great on top of weeds .

Best Place to Fish for Pike Near Rochester, NY
Has Been replied to TBacca's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
Any of the tribs to LO are good . Fish the weed edges near current if possible w/ spinnerbaits or plastics. Bradocks bay is a good place to start. Other posts on here about the Islands. -
Took an extra merc plastic 5 gal can & put 2 gal mobil( 10% eth ) gas in it . Cranked down cap & vent screw tight . Set it outside next to my shed so it will get direct sunlight to get hot & the cool nights. In 30 days or so I will drain into a glass 1 gal pickle jar to see what happened.

Need help w/ versatile rod/reel selection
Has Been replied to fletch's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I have about 75 fishing rods & use about 25. That should narrow it down for you . You don't drive a # 4 finish nail with a sledge hammer nor do you pound in a railroad spike with a tack hammer. The right tool for the right job.Balanced equipment. Pier Rod- 8'6" - 10' med action spin 8-15 lb ' .Dipsy rod, well a dipsy rod. Most stores sell rod/reel combo's at a good deal. -
Evel Eye - Red Eye lure - Question - Help
Has Been replied to cptcove's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I thought Evil Eyes were made by the Hofscnider Co in Rochester.Shongos favorite. They made the Red Eye Wiggler that had the 2 hex red eye beads w/ the double hook up front. A go to lure for pike & musky years ago. The Black & silver Evil eye in both 3 & 5 were go to for me for all species till NK's showed up.I have a bunch of them in a lot of colors . Daredevil made Flutterchucks & some other flutter type spoons. -
I put an in line clear filter in the fuel line just ahead of the motor conection on my outboard. I can see everything that goes thru. at 3 bucks each I keep an extra on board. My tanks with the vent screws& cap tight Expand & contract with temp. When I open them they suck air or blow it out depending. I figure that's "sealed" pretty good. I also pull the connection & run the motor dry if I won't use it the next day. kwik fill attendant in Brockport told me we are safe from eth for a while.
-
If the gas can is sealed tight how does the process repeat itself? There can only be so much moisture in the tank when sealed . Vented, I agree. Also , I like Stabil. I buy the $10 bottle & put some in every time I fill cans for boat, generators, or mowers.

WE WANT YOU BACK!!!!!!! """"""A-TOM-MIK""""!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Has Been replied to ray koziatek's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Sounds to me like all parties concerned need to get in a room , lock the door , put on the gloves, have at it, and don't come out till an equitable soltution is agreed upon. Sounds like everyone needs everyone in this equation. Also , PRIDE is what drives most succesful people IMO. Hope this tourny is still around when I get time in a few years. -
Boy , and I thought the Trib site was bad last fall. I don't fish these things but sounds to me someone is trying to make an example out of you Tom. Blurring out your name & no one elses if all is equal would be grounds for a discimination lawsuit in my eyes. Bought a couple of your flies from you in Lockport.Looking forward to using them in the next few weeks. Good luck & keep your chin up. Sounds like you have made this your lifes work.Don't let someone spoil it for you.
-
Congrats Man!! See , you didn't need those extra rods after all.

If your Romer has that metal "loop" on it , clip an offshore downrigger release to it. Easy rigging offshore & easy depth set & drops down when it hits the pully on retrieve. Done it for years & love it.
