  1. Go thru the narrows therefrom Eel bay & fish in front of the thousand Isl park if I have my berings right. . There are 3 islands. one w/ a duck blind 2 w/ cottages. Drift use mentiond spoons & buctails or plastics in 1/4 = 3/8 on weed edges. Saw 2 dogs swim fom the one Island to the park .was about 250 yards. My buudy got a 50" musky there. good pike action w/ bass too.
  2. From my corner rigger to me out is 30" with 2 rod holders in there w/ more in front of that . Why risk getting in the cables? Won't work for me & why should it. What I do works just fine for me. Question. Do all dead fish float. Seen them during fall& spring steam season bouncing down the bottom. Seen them on the bottom in shallow water in the lake. Circled fish for a while in calm waterw/ 80 degree surface temps as they "catch their breath" and seen them disaper. Does that mean they made it . Torpedoed fish bach & watched them weakly swim away. .I question if they survive. Watch released stuggling fish in a slight chop & you loose track of them fast. been there done that many times . Ain't my first rodeo. Know there will be mortality with the sport but not going to kid myself that it isn't there w/ steelheads being the most vulnerable & thats my question . My guess is once it's overboard that most boats don't turn around much. For the record, started LO trolling in 1978 & spent a good part of my life out there. Your welcome Ray for the guys like me who paved the way through trial & error so that you new guys can build on our hard work . Kind of like I want things better for my kids than I had.
  3. On the side won't work on my boat . It's an I/O and I set it up so the riggers& rods are on the back corners and out downs 30 " up on sides.Diver boards in front of that. Back of boat is wide open for fighting & landing fish. I find behind transom they are out of the current & easier to unhook in the water. They have these dehookers in FLA. that are a long piece of wire w/ a handle on it bent at the endabout 3' long. If they made one for trebles , all it would take would be a push pull & it would be over. And yes Spoony , I am a piece of work . Perfection created in the Lords own hand . I have allways been know to ask the tough questions when I hear what don't add up & will continue to do so which doesn't endear me with some. . Unteachable? Right back at ya.
  4. I have lost a hat or two , more than a few pliers ,& sunglasses reaching over the back of the boat releasing fish. Lost my share of lures that way when they break off when the fish thrashes around also. Never thought of keeping an eye on the fish got to remember that . with all those lines in the water ,especialy the 10 colors & 600 ft of copper on boards going 3 knots , how small of a circle can you make to get back on the fish when you see him floating 200 yards back , you know to make sure or pick him up? When you cant see them anymore , I guess they made it.
  5. Yes Gambler, you are right . It's his opinion & team to do as he wishes with. . Spoony ,the smart one would be the one who said NO!Back to my read, Munity on the Bounty. Good night.
  6. Bet it's a real hoot fishing the derbys with you Spoonfed.I wonder if KVD is looking over his shoulder. Nothing but Victory is accepatable. I think I would rather stay home. I get enough aggrivation at work. Can I intrest you in a few Chimps or better yet robots? Tote that barge , lift that bale..............
  7. Spoonfed after the release & they are on their side , if there is a slight chop on the water, how do you keep sight of the fish with the whitecaps & the white belly cause for me when I do that , I loose sight of them pretty fast ,they blend in ?I have lost hats overboard and lost sight of them & lost them . Do you use binocs or somthing to keep track of them. Agreed ,the less handling the better. In the stream waters which are not nearly as warm as the surface of the lake now, I revive before release cause they somtimes need it . Just wondering how you handle that? Nice job on the big steelies !!!
  8. Maybe we could take some of the Boarder patrol & send them down to the southern border to do their " job". Arizona had to make a law stating that being in the country illeagaly is illeagal and it is being challanged . The political powers at be to me have no clue of what they are doing to protect this country. I agree peace by power & play to win the game or we look like a bunch of pussys. If terroists rellay wanted to get into this country easily , go to Mexico and walk across. And when they get here you call a phone number to get fair pay, health, education , food & housing benefits , all courtesy of the American taxpayers while you plot to blow up what ever you want. What a country!
  9. I have been going up there for about 8 years now with the family & have fallen in love with the area. Excellent fishing abounds & lots of things for the family to do. Small & largemouths & Northerns all that can get really big. Flyfishing & deepwater fishing for trout. The lake i like ( which I won't name just yet) I use spinnerbaits & 5 mepps both in black & gold or orange. Blk or Brn buctails & plastics . Find weeds & fish around& over them & on the deep side of them. Saranac & Tupper Have good fishing. The outlet in Saranac lake behind the police station has an aboundance of fish . I like to bring my kids there for some fast action. Nothing big but a lot of fish.I will be there the 4th also. I have been dreaming about going since last labor day . Can't wait to see my buddy the bald eagle again ! The call of the loon at night melts my heart.
  10. Do we have a few outlaws in our midst?
  11. We did our best on the edges of weedbeds adjacent to current on the front , backs & edges of Islands. We used R&W 1 oz daredevels & Mepps cyclops in chart silv, Somtimes I would put a 3 " white curly tail on the dredevel & it helped a lot . Also used 1/4 - 1/2 0z buctails in white, blk or brown. My buddy got a 50" musky on the daredevel once right out in front of the thousand island park on wellsly island by islands there. Drift close to the islands and fish as close as you can to the base of the weed walls.
  12. Pm me if you have one to sell.
  13. Biggest you can get & get a good marine charger. I bought my battery at walmart. It is the biggest best Marine they had ,was about 80 bucks. Also got a marine charger for another 50 . Have had no probs with either. I know there are better batteries out there but has done me fine. I have about the same thrust on a small alum bass boat. Get seperate bat for the motor & elec so your safe.
  14. Keep at it ,we've all been there, done that. You get a bad day once in a while , somtimes a few in a row but it all will fall together. Keep it simple & make what you have work . Speed is really important.
  15. Have you tried hitting it with a hammer? Serously, I had the same problwm with mine & I traced it back to the up/down switch. Replaced it & it's all good. Saw a little corrosion in switch when I got it out as I remember. Buzz words for electricity are CLEAN & TIGHT.
  16. It is extremly wrong to do this. How bout we open the gates , put up a sign " Use at your own risk" and let us use it for free ? This is a spit in the ocean when it comes to the deficit woes. We give school kids on the dole 200 bucks for suplies to buy their votes. What was the bill for that? This is to make us feel pain so we will say alright to the upcoming tax increases , Rolmops , & you are playing right into it. How bout a cut in pay and perks for the NY legislative royalty? Won't happen . I agree , cut spending , but we need to think in terms of eficiency. They don't want to let us use it for free because when we find out it will probably cost less in the long run we won't want to go back to the way it is now & that means less money in their pockets & more in ours & we can't have that, can we.Turn them over to the counties or sell off the property if we really can't afford them. Wake up guys , you are being played.
  17. A few questions first. Will this be a catered affair? And will the dress be formal? What time can I expect the limo to pick me up ? And quite frankly, Don't ask if the fishing will not be exemplory , for my standards are quite high, don't you know. Will the boat be fitted with all the lastest in fishings technological advancement? How are the accomodations & will they meet my expectations ? Have your people call my people to work out the details& I will try to squeeze you in. Chao!
  18. Spoony , maybe you can explain to me what "Par" means to you, . I bet there are a lot of guys who were on the lake during the derby that would have loved to hook just one of the good size fish you were into & been real happy , satisfied& appreciative of it . After reading your corespondence for some time, I think I understand quite well, thank you.
  19. Sounds to me like you had a great trip aside from only averaging 3-4 kings a day up to 22 with none under 15 & those pesky lakers & cohos to bother you & a nice bow. . I'm sure the fishing will get better for you. A nice trip with your wife in a beautiful area with good weather .By the looks of those fillets on deck you will have some good eating. You sound to me a little disappointed & I can't imagine why .
  20. Go to Lowes and buy a Diamond 2 sided hone. It's 2 sided. coarse & fine w/ a hook slot on both sides . I think it's made by Smiths. Folds into the handle & works great on hooks knifes etc. Once you use diamond , you won't use stone again . A file works great but it needs to be fine & sharp or you can roll the point over & once you do that you might as well throw the hook out. Best 15 bucks Ive spent.
  21. If they pulled a 50 off the fish ladder and did not make a big deal about it for advertisement & tourism reasons, well , thats not to smart. So my guess is they didn't. But the fish sure are big this year,& lots of them. Give praise to the guys responsible for all of it for a good job manageing it. . And thank the big guy for it also .
  22. I have been looking forward to fishing in this derby since I joined this site last year. Got the boat out of the barn and spent many, many hours & money on it & my tackle. Could not go last weekend. Saw derby leaderboard & knew it was good out there.Planned on FRI- SUN. Major disapointment is an understatement.
  23. Hunting deer with a butter knife? WOW!!! Thats why we need so many laws, Because some knucklehead will be smart enough to try it or worse. I think about my fellow sportsman not needing all these laws to do the right thing. With wisdom like that , I guess I am a dreamer. Watch the dogs & cats!
  24. I bought a diamond 2 sided stone at lowes . It does a n unbelivable job sharpening knives . I used it to sharpen a hammered carbide $35 router stair bit and made it like new. Sharpens my planes & chisles. Also on utility knife blades. Best 15 bucks I ever spent.Has paid for itself 10 times. Gave about 3 away for gifts. Has a hook grove on it. Pulls out & folds back into the handle so you can keep it in your back pocket. GET ONE!
