Yep, I haven't caught anything but browns except a king and a rainbow. No browns over about 7#. I caught a few Atlantics last year and they are great fish.

Glad you were there with your family as the fish certainly were cooperative. It was really chaotic in the big seas in the morning and we sometimes only had a couple rods in the water.. It was just starting to lay down when we left about 1:00. I'm going to head down with my brother on Tuesday as the weather looks good. That one brown is a beauty. I've hit many more small fish this year than in the past.

Nice looking boat and interesting addition.. I have mine set up so I can convert it to a float boat for hunting ducks and it works great for fishing and hunting. Is that a 60hp and 8 hp Yamaha on the back? I have a 60 Mercury and a 9.9 Yamaha on mine.

We took a couple big waves over the bow on the way out. Fought with 3 footers most of the morning. ( Even fought through the queasy stomach) but the fish were on. Only set 6 rods and ran less most of the morning. Went about 15 for 20 with several doubles, in around three hours. Boards and riggers both were firing. As we headed in several boats were just heading out as the lake began to lay down. It certainly was worth battling the conditions in my 18' Lund Alaskan with Gary and Garret Plantz. ====================

1-2' of wet snow is forecast for tonight. Not sure about heading to Mexico in the morning.

I generally run stick baits without weight or with a small slit shot. Rapallas (straight and jointed), Smithwick or other stick baits in the #9 or #11 range. Stinger , RR and NK spoons with a split shot ( small and medium sizes). Colors may vary but Chartreuse/silver, firetiger and oranges are a good start. Riggers down 4-6 feet. Fish are often as shallow as 6' but may be out in 25'. Look for warmer water with a green color. (usually avoid cold, clear water) Try running leads of 90-125' behind boards and 6-30' behind riggers. If your set up like this you can troll as shallow as 7 fow. Vary your lures, leads, speed and depth till you hit a pattern. Most fish are up top within 10' of the surface. If you are fishing deeper add another split shot or two and lower riggers. Also gear down to 10-12# test line or at least use light leaders. Now that you can run 3 lines per angler you can really experiment. Good luck!

Started at Selkirk and caught a few but water was too muddy. Ran to Mexico Bay and fished in greener water and had a steady pick. Several doubles. I fished there last week and it was slow we got about a third of a pail. Fish were not very abundant or as large as usual. I also talked to a friend that fished Three Mile Bay two days ago and didn't do well. From what I've heard it hasn't been as good as usual.

Didn't notice any clips.

Haven't tried since but cold weather has likely put the breaks on crappies for a few days.

A guide at the ramp guessed 18# but our at home scale read 20. Certainly could be off but a great spring fish no matter what. She was full of eggs and darker in color than other spring salmon I've caught. Here's a view on the boat.

While setting our fifth rod we took a rip off the board. It seemed very large but I was surprised when we boated a 20# King ( first of the year I've heard of in this area). She was a bit dark and full of eggs. We also managed to catch 6 small browns. One again the fish weren't concentrated and we covered lots of water picking a few here and a few there. If I told you I'd have to kill you but they are where the water warms more quickly (shallow bays, canals, tributaries, marinas etc. The minnows move into the warmer water and the crappies follow. French Creek in Clayton is often hot. This happens well before the spawn and typically in early May. Not this year!

Hard to believe I'm catching quality crappies in the St Lawrence River in March. Good average size and we actually caught twice as many as in the photo but my buddy took half. Largest is nearly 14".

We did end up with a limit but it was a tough pick. Some were in 8 fow and others in 22. Fish seemed to be in small bunches. two or three fish then nothing so we covered a lot of water. The weather was amazing. In fact it was actually too hot! With all the warm water the fish seem spread out and fish are averaging a little smaller then last year. ====================

Fished toward Selkirk early and had a little activity. Lost a good fish that got wrapped on the board. Found some 45 degree water but couldn't find fish. Made a run to Catfish and didn't find anything better. Never could find any colored water. Ran a variety of spoons and sticks and varied depth and speed running 8 rods and still couldn't find them. many boats on the water fishing in the fog and everyone seemed to be searching. Didn't see many fish boated. Mush different than Wednesday. Hope someone found some. ====================

Another great day together we made a good call on beating the thunderstorm. My brother may be coming out to fish early next week.

Does anyone know why most brown trouts flesh is bright orange but some are whitish tan. I asked this question last year and some thought it was because some stay in the lake and others run up streams and others thought it had to do with a diet of fish vs, eggs. Any ideas.
