  1. Trolling for walleyes at Mud Bay on Tuesday and we caught a 40" muskie and a 20#+ laker. The muskie picture didn't come out well due to wet lens.
  2. Mine was delivered today.
  3. Ice is going fast be careful out there.
  4. Fished Chippewa Bay Sunday and caught a nice bunch of perch. Still 10" of ice and was even a truck on the ice.
  5. I just ordered one! I have a light weight combo fly/spin take down rod it should work well on.
  6. I fished Eel Bay yesterday. Still plenty of ice (about 12"), in fact there were about 6 trucks on the ice. Many dink perch but I managed about a quarter pail of decent perch (a couple pushing 13") The larger perch came on tipups using pike bait while many smaller fish were caught on jig pole. I also caught around 7 pike both on tipups and jigs. They were mostly small but I did hit one 24". With warm weather and strong wind today the ice will likely be going soon but it is going to be cooler Sunday and Monday.
  7. Drove to Krings today. One couple setting up for fishing off shoreline. Ramp still iced in but a small boat could be easily launched on the point
  8. The launch at Kring's is iced in still but I believe you can slide a small boat in off the point. We launched a boat at Wagoner's Marina yesterday and watched the Polar Bear Dip at A-Bay. Right now Chippewa Bay, Eel Bay, Lake of the Isles and Goose Bay can be ice fished. All can be good. Chamount Bay can be very good but not sure on ice conditions there (it was open outside last week). All of these bays can be hot for perch. Within the next couple weeks all should be available for open water fishing.
  9. I'm always around and generally keep a handle on what's happening up here.
  10. Thanks for the post may try this week or next.
  11. Yep many people line the shore fishing after ice out but even a small boat gives you better access and freedom to move.
  12. I fished Goose Bay yesterday morning. Caught a couple pike and some decent perch off tip-ups and a bunch of small perch and bluegills on jig poles.About a foot of ice. Rumors of crappies but I didn't get any. Main river is open but large bays still are fishable.
  13. I live in the area and fish it regularly. Perch are generally there as soon as ice is out. You could get a small boat in now as the main river is basically ice free. I ice fished inside on Goose Bay yesterday and caught a couple decent pike, a few nice perch off tip-ups, and many small perch and bluegills on jig poles..
  14. I too shot an 11-87. I also use an IC choke most of the time over decoys for ducks and geese. I may go to mod. if I'm pass shooting. 4's or 2's for ducks, 2's or BB for geese. Works for me 4's seem to work better on the cripples.
  15. I fished Goose Bay last week with limited success. Did manage a dinner of nice perch off pike tip ups.
  16. First trip out on the ice. Rather slow day on Goose Bay. No pike, a couple largemouths, and enough perch for dinner. Five nice perch came on tipups baited with pike minnows the rest jigging..
  17. Just returned from Western NY and some late season diver action. Thursday was an incredible day. Wind, waves and we were where they wanted to be. Ended up with 6 Scoter, 5 Whistlers, a Buffy and a goose. Probably passed on 100 birds which were in or over the decoys. Tried to pick out the males and let females, smaller birds and Oldsqaw go. Friday was a different day with less wind and far fewer birds. We still manage 8 Oldqaw, a broadbill and a scoter. Great way to end a rather disappointing season.
  18. I slightly disagree and have killed numerous divers from my float boat although it can be difficult. Ive shot Buffies, Scoter, Broadbills, Whistlers, Oldsqaw, Eider, Mergansers, and Redheads from my boat, some near shore and some offshore. I too have gone to using longline rigs for easy setting and pick up. Many times divers prefer their own species so I tend to set them in separate groups but it often doesn't matter as they will generally give your rig a swing even if they don't commit. Puddle ducks are are another matter. Although you can kill Blacks or Mallards near shore if your boat is well camouflaged. Being wary, they are difficult to entice offshore as the boat stands out. They will generally land outside your set, if at all, although they may swim into your decoys. You can't kill them on the couch. Good luck! Tomorrow I'm headed to Western NY for a few days for my last ducks of the year.
  19. Hunted Cape Cod this week and aside from Eiders in the Canal not many birds around. I did manage to shot about 10 Buffies.
  20. I hunted Oak Orchard the last weekend and aside from a few scoter and Oldsquaw we saw very few birds. Looking forward to a better late season.
  21. Well norther season ended today and it was a very disappointing late season. Got into a few divers a couple weeks ago but they disappeared and no new birds took their place. Very few birds on the St Lawrence and I even traveled to Oak Orchard on western end of Lake Ontario and there were few birds there also. I'll be hunting in Cape Cod over Christmas and late season in Western NY in January. Hopefully some birds will filter down by then.
  22. I finally was able to access some photos from my cell phone. Two early season goose hunts netting 36 and 55 birds (7 hunters). Two late season goose hunts with a 12 bird limit and 3 banded birds out of 8 killed and finally a Lake Ontario diver shoot. All were taken within an hour of my home. Thanks to my good friends that make this type of shooting possible!
  23. I enjoy hunting sea ducks but was wondering if you know of a good way to eat them. I've tried a few recipes but none have panned out. Best I've done so far is to grind them and mix with some pork and make into sausage or jerky.
  24. Limited out on Bufflehead and Whislers this morning on Lake Ontario. Jumped a huge raft of Broadbills on the way in and saw some Longtails as well.
  25. Looks like a great outing. What part of the lake were you hunting?
