My brother Ken scratched down two woodcock and a fall turkey assisted by Slash the wonder dog. I managed to shoot a tree, a bush, and air. A nice morning hunt never the less..
Hunted a beaver pond this morning and scratched down a mallard and three woodies. Yesterday we got two pheasants at French Creek and my brother had a spike horn at about 20 yards bow hunting last night. We also saw a couple flocks of turkeys we're making a plan for. Love this time of year!
After a great day yesterday but we actually had a better shoot today. Ended up one shy of the limit. 55 geese for 7 hunters. I could only hunt two days since I just returned from a trip to Alaska but we managed to get 91 in two days and the guys I hunted with totaled over three hundred for the early season.
I fished yesterday and lost one at the boat but actually got shut out on walleyes and only a few small bass. I saw many glowing walleyes shallow early with my headlight in 1-8 fow but couldn't get them to hit My boat will be in use till end of late duck season in Jan. Perhaps I'll do a little fishing this fall.
I really can't tell you how long the bite continues on the river as once early goose season begins I switch modes to hunting and salmon until I head up to Quinte in Nov. for trophy eyes. I'm headed to Alaska on Thursday for 20 days and hopefully some great fishing.
Certainly not a complete waste of time but also not a high percentage game. Bass, perch, pike and walleyes are much more readily available as most muskies are caught toward Cape Vincent and usually latter in the fall.
I might also add it might depend on where it was caught. A seven in some places is big indeed but for Lake Ontario or the Bay of Quinte I would hold out for something over ten. I've caught many over seven and a good number over ten and eleven and still haven't mounted one. Generally we release the big ones after a quick photo. Whatever you decide should feel right to you.
Hit the river again this morning. Had 5 walleyes on but only boated 3. Also caught 6 nice smallmouths. Walleye fishing has been very consistent . Only shut out one day and generally get two or three.
On the river again this morning with more good results. I caught some really nice smallmouths to go with the two walleyes. I released several other larger smallmouths.
I was on Conesus a couple years ago and saw the same behavior. I don't have a good explanation but it is interesting to observe and obviously not that unusual.
Sounds like what we found last week. Hit 2 lakers and one skippy after having a great day on browns the week before. How quickly things can change with a change of wind and a good blow. I talked to a friend that charters there and he said the bass fishing has been great but salmon and browns have been scarce. Thanks for the feedback

My friend was up last weekend and didn't do great. His place is on Green Point near Deseronto. I've done the ice fishing as well and got 3 over 11 lbs. one day. They filmed a show for Bob Izumi there last winter and caught a bunch through the ice.
October is a little early. I'd definitely wait till Nov. I hunt a lot also but late Nov. and Dec. are the time for big eyes in Quinte so I forgo some hunting for those giant fish. Fortunately I'm retired so tend to hunt or fish daily. We go until ice prevents launching Then I turn to late season diver duck hunting.
Fall fishing on Quinte is awesome. We fish there frequently as I have a friend with a camp there and catch many over 10 lbs. The latter in the fall the better.
