I also heard they were hitting on the lake and thinking of giving it a try.

Fished the River again this morning and caught the walleyes trolling well after sun up. Thought I had a monster while jigging that ended up being a 10 lb. drum.

Sounds like you had a good week. Lots of eyes available once you master a technique. I live up here and get out a few mornings a week. I like early morning best as I'm off the water by the time boat traffic picks up. You're right about the fish, they are fat and that size is great for the table. I got three early this morning trolling in shallower water 20-30'. I go to jigging after the sun gets bright.

Back on the river this morning caught three walleyes . Two 19" and one released 17". Talked to a friend that has been hitting them in 80 fow on jigging spoons. I got mine trolling cranks and sticks.

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Longlegg ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8/4 Time on Water: 6:00-11:00 Weather/Temp: 75 clear Wind Speed/Direction: N 5-10 Waves: 1-2' Surface Temp: Location: South of Stony Island LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 12 Total Boated:10 Species Breakdown:9 browns and skippy Hot Lure: spoons Trolling Speed: 2.1-2.8 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 85-140 Lure Depth: 60-120 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Slow steady pick. Not much bait marked and not a lot of fish on the graph but we picked away with riggers and sliders and dipsies. Interestingly we caught a double on a single rod, one off rigger and one on slidder. Also had a fish hit two of our spoons on two different rods and when netted had both spoons in it's mouth. Go figure. ====================

I've actually got one planned for the guys in my church gor next Wednesday. Your welcome to join us! Fished again yesterday and today and I believe we've taken 106 crappies in 5 outings.
-
I've been back last two days and crappies are still there. Took my wife this morning and caught a nice mess.
-
After catching and releasing about 15 bass ( 4 over 17') we switched over to ultralights and jigs and boated 22 crappies which were not released!

As I said I fish the stickbaits with heavy bottom bounces in 30-60 fow. Fish cranks in 25 fow and shallower. Chartreuse and green silver are good colors to start with.

Great solo day. Makes for some interesting times. -
Pete, Great to see young kids enjoying the fishing I may call you for some information if you don't mind..

Nice fish Pete. I've been fishing the river with good success but maybe should hit some lakes too.

I make my own bottom bouncing weights and believe they are around 12 ounces or more. I use heavy gear and heavy braid and a wire leader above the weight to avoid zebra mussel cut off. Still get hung up and cut off and it's not the most enjoyable fishing method but it can be effective. Last two morning were tough but did manage one eye yesterday. I believe its somewhat similar to how they fish the Detroit river.

First morning out on the river this year that I got blanked on the walleyes. Did manage a few largemouth in Lake of the Isles.
-
They definitely like it where deep water moves up over and around shoals and the head and side of islands where the current is running. It makes for an interesting troll into the current and often you are barely making headway but current keeps cranks working. Almost like hotshotting for steelhead. They move up into shallower water at night (8-20 fow) and may drop deep (30 to over 80) which makes trolling very difficult so jigs and jigging spoons work better or you can try downriggers or very heavy weights. The tough part is you generally have small target areas and need to know the river to fish at night.

Another limit of St Larwence walleyes and photo
Kevin J Legg replied to Kevin J Legg's topic in Walleye
Fished the river again this morning but had one of those days. Caught 1 walleye and 3 smallmouths but had 3 others come unglued which I'm fairly sure were walleyes. One felt like a very big fish. Once in a while you have a day like that for no apparent reason. -
I was up early this morning to beat the heat. After hitting the inland lakes for bass and Ontario for salmon and browns last week. I was back on the river this morning and rewarded with a nice limit of walleyes. I was done fishing by 7:00.

The bass have really turned on in the lakes. I've had great luck my last three outings catching many fish over 15 inches. Yesterday we fished about 4 hours and landed about 30 largemouths on a variety of techniques and about 7 were 15-18" fish. Top water, crankes and wacky worms all did the trick. Shallow early then deep water weed edges as sun got higher.
