I just called Canadian Customs and was told you can travel by boat from NU side of the river to fish Canadian waters if you don’t anchor or touch land. This is very confusing with conflicting information. Likely couldn’t get in trouble as Customs said you could do it but I think I’ll pass this weekend. I feel blessed that have 3 properties I can hunt. Two are exclusive and the third may have a few other hunters. That gives me access to over 1200 acres of good habitat. While scouting this morning, I had a Tom gobbling on the roost and watched him fly down with 3 hens. They never knew I was there and came within 50 yards with no calling. After they wondered off undisturbed, I made a brush blind and it is ready for first good morning after Friday’s opener. I also have another roost located with gobbling toms there as well. I’m fortunate to have this access and have become good friend with the owners. I try to treat them right and keep them supplied with fish and other goodies. I also give one some money for compensation. In addition I stop and chat with them frequently and have know two for over 40 years!/ Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Ok time to fess up. Forgot to put in the plug several times and plugged the wrong hole once and ended up with wet feet. Had Lund come off the trailer at the launch once. Fortunately it wasn’t difficult to get back on and no one was around. I’ve backed into rocks and trees and wrecked several trailer light and damaged wheel guards. I’ve backed into my garage opening a couple times and damaged the trim. Worst was when I thought I’d taken trailer off the hitch and tried to back my vehicle into my driveway unaware my boat was still hooked up. I ended up putting a kink in my trailer tongue which I had to have straightened. Once was backing into a steep launch and had a break line go and very nearly ended up in the water but fortunately emergency brake worked. Ended up driving home with only emergency breaks. Oh yea even jackknifed a utility trailer and dented the trucks wheelwell. Yep I’ve done them all.[emoji3]

I was happy to see changes in the situation with access to launches. However, this brings about great responsibility to those choosing to use them. Please be extra cautious about social distancing, sanitation, masks, etc. We’re not over this pandemic by a long shot. I do believe if we follow the rules the risk of infection from launching is minimal. That said if rules are not strictly followed or launches are seen as a point of infection they will again close down quickly. Also I personally believe we should not travel far from our home area for fishing access. This could increase the risk of exposing other or ourselves. Let’s all use good judgement.
