Headed towards Oswego from Mexico Point. Found clear water and didn’t hit any fish. Decided to run to Selkirk and found some colored water. Hit some fish in shallow and ended catching 4 browns and 2 big smallmouth off boards in 7 fow. Mix of spoons and sticks off boards. East wind picked up and we trolled back toward the launch with nothing else hitting and finding clear water again. Guy at the ramp said he had caught a king and lakers in 20-35 fow.

Spot lock is a great tool when fishing deep water and finding schools with electronics. Saves a great deal of anchor pulling, easier to place boat over the school and easier to follow the school. In shallow water I often do drop 2 anchors to lock boat in position and avoid mild swing from spot lock. Once anchored it also is quiet. Need to be quiet deploying the anchors as noise can definitely affect the bite.

Got out yesterday and headed toward Oswego with flat conditions. Water had good color and temperature was mostly from 40-45 degrees. Ended up 4 for 5 more on stick baits than spoons. Nice size fish on the average. Caught most of them in 10-25 fow. Saw others boat some and tales two 2 guys that had limited out.

I have a 18 foot Lund Alaskan with a 60 hp Mercury. I have a 9.9 kicker on it for back up but never use it as the 60 hp worked just fine. I ran it for 17 years and over 3000 hours! I actually just repowered with a 90 hp Yamaha and plan on trolling with it as well. Perhaps if you plan on going 1-1.2 mph you will need a trolling sock but I can troll 1.5- 2.8 all day long.

My 90 hp Yamaha is now on my Lund and I’ll pick it up when I return home. We’re headed to South Carolina for some fishing and a hog hunt but will be back home in two weeks. I’m excited to get my boat in the water and chase some late season walleyes and early perch, and browns. Looks like launches should remain open till we return.
