Made it down for last three days of late season. Only hunted Wednesday and today as Thursday was just too windy. Wednesday was very windy also with high seas so it was late by the time we got out but had a decent shoot. This morning wind was down but we had engine issues and ice to break so another late start. Birds decoyed well and although not great table fare it was a good ending to the season. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Looking for a report on Finger Lakes waterfowl numbers. There don't appear to be many birds on the SLR and I was wondering if they are held up in the Finger Lakes as the late season. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Took 50 lbs. of goose to Miller's to be made into slim Jim's, jalapeño/ cheese sticks and summer sausage. Having my buck butchered and making a bunch into dried Italian salami, dried Pepperoni, venison bacon, country little links, hotdogs, moser sausage, and maybe some BBQ. I've already made breakfast sausage, Italian sausage and chorizo. Think I'll have about 115 lbs of various sausages, as welll as steaks, loins, tenderloins, sirloin tips, etc. Guess I'll have plenty to share with family at Christmas, and also with friends and farmers. I have mixed feelings on taking a decent buck this morning. On one hand it's the best buck I've killed on this property but it's very early in the season and my buck tags are filled. I do have doe tags for 6g and a doe late muzzleloader tag but don't intend to fill them. I was watching a doe and two fawns in a big grass field at 8:00 this morning when I heard a grunt and shortly this guy walked up. Hopefully we will have some nice weather so I can sit some watches with my wife (she's a fair weather hunter) and my son will be up for Thanksgiving. Guess I'll be doing more waterfowl hunting and some perch fishing this fall. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

I don't disagree that the last week of early season has many migratory birds showing up. Just seems odd that Canada has much longer goose season and 5 bird limit and is just across the river from us. We are also allowed only 2 scaup and you can shoot 6 in Canada. Not sure if they have changes for next year. I'm certainly in favor of conservation measures when needed but it seems as though rules should be similar on both sides. Also this year there were very few resident birds in my area till the migratory birds moved down. Guides were even canceling due to lack of geese until the last week of the early season. Just read an article on next years waterfowl season. Not only are they dropping mallard limit to 2 a day but are also reducing the goose limit from 3 to 2 a day and reduce the regular goose season from 50-30 days. No change in early goose season. This may furthered drive waterfowlers away from hunting. In Canada there is a 6 duck limit for most all types of ducks and 5 goose limit and goose is open for nearly entire duck season. Also much longer seasons. Had a decent shoot yesterday. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

I like to use every bit of the game I take. Today I ground up some venison and turkey legs and added ground pork butt to make sausage. Ended up making 25 lbs. of loose venison Italian and 23 lbs. of venison breakfast sausage. Also made 10 lbs. of link turkey chorizo. I also roasted and boiled the venison bones and froze stock and meat for soups and stews. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I lent my 11-87 supermag to a friend to duck hunt on Oct 7th. Had it in a soft case and it was lost on the way in the marsh. 5 of us search extensively for it to no avail. I returned today and felt something in the muck with my foot. It was under a foot of water and 2 feet down in the muck! I hooked it with a 4 time cultivator and it was full of mud. After a thorough hosing, drying, strip cleaning with gasoline and relubing it works fine. A bit more patina on the dull bluing but no pitting. God is good! My brother who is 73 and his wife came up for the opening weekend. He shot a large doe one minute into the season in a spot I put him in about 60 yards from the truck. A half hour latter I shot a 4 point. We were able to drive the truck right to the deer and neither one took a step. Great family day. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
