  1. Nice job Landshark. We hit them pretty well also. Some on tip ups and some on jigging spoons. Fished from 3:00-7:00 pm. We caught them in around 18 fow. Gold spoon was best for us but caught the big fish on a tip up. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Went out with 2 friends this afternoon. Caught 7 eyes. Two shorts and largest 28 1/2". Some on jigging spoons and some on tipups.
  3. Got to take a father and son out in the ice yesterday. Neither had ice fished before. Managed some good perch and a couple pike in 3 1/2 hours of fishing. Typical mistakes were made setting tipups wrong but still dad entered a 28" northern and son a 12" perch for the Alex Bay derby. 4 year old won a nerf football and a medium pizza. Lots was learned and fun for us all. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. Unfortunately wasn't able to get out much at all during late season. However, I really enjoyed viewing these post and the dedication of these successful late season hunters. It definitely takes a special mentality. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  6. Perhaps if you ate them the day they were caught they would be better. By day two the dogfish turned mushy. I made some poor mans lobster out of pike and out of the dogfish. Although it wasn't terrible the pike was better. Likely will release them as always from now on. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  7. My search found they are not very good from warm water and their skin acts as a kidney so it's important to clean them immediately or they can have an ammonia taste. Since this is my first try I'll let you know my results. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Wow, what great news. Must have been a devastating discovery and a long wait. Sorta like shooting a deer and not finding it till the next day. Gives us all hope for our messed up world. There are still plenty of good people out there! Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  9. I have always released dogfish as I never knew anyone that ate them. Decided to fillet this one after reading that you can eat them. Lots of blood line to remove and meat looked somewhat like monkfish. I tried a small piece and it tasted fine and I'm a fish snob as I have a freezer full of walleye and perch. Not flaky, rather dense, but flavor seemed fine. Seems as though it could be used in a chowder or recipe where you want a firm fish. Perhaps could use it as poor mans lobster or rolled in bacon like a scallop. I'll have to experiment. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

  12. Plenty of ice on Bays in the Thousand Island region. 10-12". Some trucks on the ice at LOTI and Goose Bay. Had a decent morning fishing. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. That hawk is awesome. Must be neat to see it work. Nice waterfowl photos as well. Love those cans. I haven't shot one in years. Never made it west this winter to the lake. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  14. Certainly are fun shooting and I have a friend that freezes them and trains his dog with them. I like the whistlers and buffies better but you sure can burn up shells on those cripples. In the late season you take what you can get. I have hunted out of Oak Orchard on occasion late in the year but it's a haul for me. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Nice shoot. Divers are fun to hunt but I haven't been able to find a way to use the Oldsquaws yet. I may head down to the western end the last week of the season if launches remain open. Not sure how this cold weather and snow will affect things. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. Been a slow year on the SLR but picked up on the Canadian side after the NY season ended. Wish they'd have a later season in NY up north but sometimes we do get iced out due to the cold. Guess it's a crap shoot but you can't shoot birds if they're not here. I found my large Mr Buddy worked fine off 20# tank with a gas filter. Always froze up with small tanks in very cold weather. 18. Hunted a pond that was loaded up this morning. Put up birds in the dark and picked them off as they returned. Huge number of birds and we were done by 8:30. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  20. In the early season with 15 bird limits we stack up a pile of geese ( several days with 60 birds or more) which takes a great deal of time to process. If we took 45 minutes a bird it would be ridiculous) We do the best we can but latter season I'm more meticulous. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  21. Just canned 7 quarts of goose. It took the breasts meat of 9 geese and leg meat of 7 geese for the seven quarts. Pretty simple process with a pressure canner, doesn't take up freezer space, and tastes great. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  22. Yep. My daughter is a doctor and watches carefully over me. Pork adds some fat and flavor same as with ground venison. She's all for wild game and fish. In fact I supply her family and my son's with lots of fish and game. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  23. I use to grind the gizzard and heart in with meat making sausage and save the livers but my daughter doesn't think I should eat much organ meat. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  24. I make breakfast and Italian sausage myself and I have many great ways to use their meat. I generally will use leg meat as well. Biggest Issue is the havoc that steel shot can play on your teeth. I have 3 crowns to attest to that damage and you need to be careful as steel is unforgiving. 25. Another good hunt with great friends. We were able to bag a fast limit and get out of the field before big flocks arrived. Should be good for another hunt. Birds cupped up and came right to the landing zone. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
