  1. Well said Prof T. Bottom line is it takes a great deal of time and experimentation to figure out techniques that work on various locations. Probably not going to be highly successful if you just run out for a night or a weekend. I've put in years of experimenting to become consistent on the SLR and it still isn't easy. Need to be observant and try different approaches to find out what works. Boat control in the current is very key. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  2. We use Nexus cards when duck hunting. General it is fairly easy to call in particularly when you've done it a few times as they seem to have your information on hand. Duck hunting we do anchor or make land so rules are different. We have had some instances when the person taking our call didn't seem to know how the system was suppose to work so we hung up, called again and talked to a different agent with no difficulty. I know they are trying to make this easier for boaters and fisherman but I don't believe anything has changed yet. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  3. Justin, Prof T and I do things slightly differently in our boat control but we can both adapt to fish in each other's boat and still be successful. Similar techniques but slightly different way of maintaining boat control which is key. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  4. Fish at night, troll upriver where there is current and fish in 25-50 fow. Not easy to do if you don't know the area and use proper techniques. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  5. Perspective is different with high water. Submerged docks can be an issue as can floating debris. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  6. Prof T and I made our first outing on t of the year this evening on the river. Not a bad start for the year. 28" and 24". Lots of debris so caution is advised out there at night. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. Let's hope the worst is over. I agree that the positive spin on the high water is the possibility of a great spawn for many species, particularly the northern pike which have dwindle significantly in the last 40 years. I also warn people of much debris floating in both the lake and the river. Some big stuff that could do significant damage to a boat. Go slow and don't throw a wake! 8. Fished again today and the bite had slowed but we still caught 8 sea bass, 1 tautog, and some scup. Will try again in the morning. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

  11. Fishing off my brothers 17' Whaler. Only have to run about a half mile from his mooring to a rock pile off the old canal. Catching them on medium spinning rods using jigs and plastic and yes they can pull. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

  14. Took a break from the walleyes to visit my brother for the Black Sea bass opener and wasn't disappointed. We had are 3 person limit in 1 1/2 hours plus a nice tatog. Conditions were rough with the tide and the wind but we did great. They rival any fish as table fair! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  16. Rough day fishing in 2-3 footers taking some over the bow. Water temp came up to 58 degrees from 50 last week. Managed to land a 36" northern, 7 lb walleye and a whitefish. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. I cut their gills with scissors while in the live well before I run in. After running in I drain the bloody water from the live well. If I'm not going to fillet them right away I then put them on ice. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  18. I run two riggers and 6 or 7 boards on my 18 foot Lund Alaskan. Often times I run sticks on one side and spoons on the other side until they tell me what they want. Also have been running some lead cores 2 or 3 colors in the mix. Often place spit shot 3-4' ahead of lure to get a little more depth. Generally run Stinger and R+R spoons and Smithwick, Bomber, Storms, BayRats stick baits and jointed rapalas. Change up colors running chartreuse or firetiger early and naturals later in the day. Also change up speeds 1.8-2.4 mph and leads 60-150'. Running many lures allows you to experiment with color, size, and style of lures and vary led lengths to fine tune you presentation which can change by the hour. The downside is it can lead to tangles and boat traffic can make thing interesting. If traffic is very bad I sometimes shorten leads and reduce rods but often just move away from other boats. I use a similar approach on walleyes but decrease speed and run few spoons and more sticks. Personally I have had a little better luck with spoons for Browns. 19. ProT and I bleed them and remove all brown meat and everyone we cook them for or give them to love them. Even the big ones! Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  20. We had them gobbling all around us this morning and had a big Tom come in just out of range. Decided to have her take this one as I don't get her to come out too often. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Did it again today and dropped a big one at the boat. Fish were stuffed with Mayflies. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. I don't fillet unless they are big. I actually like the small ones better to eat. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  23. Actually it does get better. Today went 8 for 8 with four in the 8 pound range. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. Caught 5 nice fish this morning and lost another nice one due to our error in netting. Largest was 10.7 another was 8.5. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. I was wondering if there is any information on speed or wake restrictions due to elevated water levels throughout New York State. Don't want to be running in my boat if there are restrictions in place. I have heard certain areas have no wake or maximum speeds of 5 mph with 500 feet of shoreline. Anyone have any information before Saturday's walleye opener?
