  1. I believe the high water will help the pike spawn as they will be able to get up into the cattail marshes where they often spawn. These marshes have gradually filled in and do not allow access for spawning. That was one reason for the 2014 plan. This high water is due to excessive rain this spring but should have a beneficial effect. I believe the eggs will be hatched by the time water drops significantly and after that the fry can move with lower water levels. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  2. I agree if you have Navionics chip you should have no problems. The SLR is a great fishery although bass and northern population are somewhat down in numbers there are some nice sized fish. The walleye fishing can be spectacular but is mostly a night bite which makes it harder for newbie to the area. Mid August is a very good time to fish this area. If your going to fish at night simple fish during spots that look good during the day and mark waypoints or routes and return at night. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

  7. Number 1 bird had 7 beards. It's spur and weight were also big and yes it blew everything in NY away. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  8. Had 3 jakes come that I passed on, shortly followed by 3 toms. Nice bird with 9 1/2" beard but nothing like yesterdays tom. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. I tried to calculate a score and came up with 91.26. Never really knew they recorded this so after measuring as best I could I dressed him out and took the tail and beards to the taxidermist for a fan, beard mount. Could this possibly have been a top 30 bird in NYS if officially scored by NWTF? Not sure of my scoring or the records. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  10. Remeasured and weighed and got the following: 1" spur, 19.51lbs., beard one 10", beard two 6", beard three 5 1/2", beard four 5". Total beard 26
  11. My friend Max Patterson is going to do a tail, beard mount for me. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  12. Got this 10" main beard with 4 total beards, 7/8" Spurs and weighed 18.9 lbs. had two groups coming from two directions while set up in a hedgerow. Had 5 toms within 60 yards and hens in the decoy before they moved off. Pulled decoys waited an hour and this guy returned. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  14. Haven't fished them in a few years but I got a tip from a buddy yesterday and picked some worms last night and rigged some rods with bobbers. My wife and I fished from 7:00-8:30 and it was nonstop action with many doubles. Ended up with a pail and a half (65 bullheads) It brought back lots of memories of fishing with our parents and our kids. Would love to have had my grandsons with me! I got them all cleaned and packaged and will be eating some fresh and giving some to friends. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Saw 3 Toms and 2 hens next to my pop up around noon today. Been seeing lots of single hens which indicates they may be nesting. Smaller groups of Toms and hens scattered around. Weather not looking great for opening day. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  16. My wife is some better after about 3 weeks. I may be slightly better than last week. Lots of it going around. Mine seems to migrate from sinus to bronchitis. My daughter is a Doctor and treated me with antibiotic on our visit but she thinks it is viral. Just got to hang in there and hope I don't have a coughing fit when a big Tom approaches. 17. Set up three ground blinds for rainy days and cut out three other natural blinds where I can sit. Big groups appear to have broken up and plenty of strutting activity around. Now if I can just shake this cough that I've had for two weeks! Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  18. Wow, what a wonderful gift! Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  19. Pretty early in the year to find any salmon. Generally browns are found in the shallows from the cut down toward Stony Point and Stony Creek this time of year but there haven't been many reports yet this year. Western end of the lake seems to be getting better bite particularly on the salmon which is typical for spring. Need to search for good colored water with good temperature. Search mode is the way to go. Lakers should be available in deeper water if you want to try for them. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  20. Slower morning at Eel Bay. About a half pail each. Still good eats! Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  21. Brief scouting trip this morning. 3 Longbeards with a few hens right where they are every year. Nice that they are way back off the road so they can't be seen. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Glad I decide to stay on the river. We caught about 60 nice perch. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. Since I haven't heard much positive on the browns we decided to forgo the lake and sleep in and hit the perch again on the SLR. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  24. Fished the Mexico area twice last week and fishing was slow. Three small browns on Monday me two mediums on Friday. Haven't heard any reports on Henderson/Stony Creek area yet this year. Was wondering if anyone has any information as I'm thinking of fishing tomorrow and launching at Stony would save some time and gas. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. i bury all my fish remains in my garden and have for years. Yes, occasionally something digs some up but I'm certain several hundred pounds are buried each year and I have a big garden. I do wonder if the toxins that they may contain makes their way into the vegetables and fruit I harvest? At any rate it's likely healthier than most of what you purchase in the super market. It is kinda tough to bury a bucket full of perch remains after filleting and knowing that if I sold the perch whole the guts would have been worth$50. I still prefer the fillets as I'm uncertain how I feel about commercial fishing. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United mobile app
