  1. I believe Fleet Tracker has nailed this topic seems like brown fishing has been better west of Mexico.

    Eel bay

Prof T and I caught around 45 at Eel Bay today. Females are now smaller and half are spawned out and males are mixed in. Thinking the end is near.
  3. Sitting in a blind on a guiet foggy morning, hearing the world come alive with the sound of song birds and gobbles is a great way to hear from God and appreciate his creation. I had 3 jakes appear in the fog which were joined by 2 more. They were fanning and chasing out around 200 yards. Decided to sneak out and try some perch fishing and when I did 3 more birds had joined in the show. Managed to take around 25 perch after the short hunt.
  4. Some hunts aren't defined by the length of the birds beard. My wife shot a jake this morning but we had a fabulous time. After roosting a bunch of birds last night. We set up in a pop up blind. Had one gobbling right from the get go. A deer came in to the decoys and blew when it got our scent. Birds began flying down and talking and put on a great show. Three toms and a bunch of jakes showed up and I called one jake into the decoys. She held off for a while but as the other birds began moving away she decided to take the jake. We got to see the whole show and had a exciting time.
  5. Scouting is the most important part of the hunt.
  6. Had one roosted in a tree about 35 yards from my blind. 3 birds were gobbling about 125 yards away. They flew down and I gave a couple soft yelps and two hens flew down 20 yards away and walked by me calling. 7 jakes were following and walked by single file. I picked the largest one that was fanning.
  7. Last morning to scout turkeys before tomorrow's opener. I have two roosts located and birds have been there three days in a row. One nice Tom in one group but there seem to be many jakes this year and fewer toms. The rain may not be good for tomorrow but I'm fairly confident that I'll have fun chasing birds this spring. Donna won't hunt tomorrow but hope to get her out next week.

    Eel bay

Fished with Prof T at Eel Bay. Slow start with murky 48 degree water. By noon the temp. was up to 50 degrees and the bite improved. We ended up with about 30 perch and 2 bullheads in 6.5 fow. Some nice females that still are not spawned out.
  9. I'm in Tenn. right now but I know the ones at Krings are spawned out.
  10. Nice slab. Good not to tell exact location to protect those smaller lakes.
  11. I think with the late opener fish will likely be out in the bay. Bull rock might be a good place to start.
  12. My son did not share the same passion for hunting and fishing as I do. I did take him when he was younger but he was not overly interested in getting up early. (I bought him a lifetime license) Later when he was at Penn State he came home one May and we were able to double on two mature toms and a week latter I guided him to a second bird. He seems more interested now and actually just bought some fishing gear. Unfortunately he is now living in Oklahoma City. He's a great young man and I cherish the time we spend together.
  13. Tried an afternoon trip today. Fished 17-25 fow toward Selkirk and moved in to 8-12 fow but had no takers. Water got muddy and was up to 59 degrees? Ran to Catfish and water was cooler and clearer finally hit 2 Browns and a released smallmouth an hour before sunset. Ran riggers, lead cores, and boards changing everything up. Both Browns hit spoons off boards in 6-8 fow. No fish off riggers or lead cores or in deeper water. DEC was surveying anglers and checking fish at the launch.
  14. Back at it this morning birds in same field and also located two other toms.
  15. Went on a short scouting walk and found four groups of birds on the roost. A Tom and a couple jakes and hens came out in a field. I backed away to observe. Ended up with 12 jakes and a Tom and some hens strutting and chasing. Great show and promising for opening day. Also brushed out a couple spots to set up in.
  16. Thanks fore the advice Rich. Tried deep. And shallow . Two hits came in deeper water. Didn't try the lead cores but ran 100-130 back with split shot and off riggers. I checked lines and switched things up frequently so debris wasn't an issue. Caught the one we got on a bay rat with no weight so it wasn't running very deep in 17 fow. Took today off to scout turkeys.
  17. We tried out of Stony yesterday and found cold clear water and no fish. Picked up and went to Mexico and picked up 6 in shallow. Today we fished Mexico from Catfish to Port Ontario and only caught one.
  18. We were lucky to catch one last minute fish. Tried changing depths, speed, colors, leds, size ad style of spoons and sticks, and locations and only went 1 for 2 in 7 hours. Fished west to Catfish and water was clear ran east to Selkirk and found muddy water to Port Ontario but no fish. Ran back west and picked one up late on the day on a Bay Rat in 17 fow. Ran 8-9 rods all day.
  19. Some on stingers, some on small Bay rats and others on a variety of sizes and colors of other spoons and sticks. No real pattern that we determined. Colors ranged from chartreuse to copper. Give them a mix and figure out what they want. It can change daily.
  20. Fished with Mr Walleye and Landshark this morning and went 8 for 9. 41 degree water with a mudline 10-20 fow. Spoons and sticks off boards and riggers. No real pattern, caught them on various colors of sticks and spoons.
