  1. First trip on the ice today. We had a decent day with perch and pike. My buddy hammered the perch but I couldn't get them going. Still had a nice day on the ice. I also heard reports that perch and pike were hitting well on most all of the large bays which have ice.. We were able to take the wheeler and had about a foot of ice..
  2. LOTI , Ell Bay, Goose Bay, South Bay, and Chippewa can hold perch and I had a friend that caught them in Swan Bay last year. Kring's can also be decent right before ice out. Chaumont Bay also holds nice perch and walleyes when the ice is safe but access is more difficult. I'm a retired teacher from ABay and live in Plessis. Ask at the bait store or someone buying perch and they can steer you to the hot bite.
  3. Just keep plugging along Pap. At 63 it's not as easy going as it was for me 40 years ago but my passion keeps me going. I'm slower and less mobil now but still get out and work at it. I also try to do some weights training, cardio, and stretching regularly at the gym to maintain what I have left.
  4. Spent another enjoyable morning with Matt and Stew. Nice way to end the season.
  5. Hunted Canadian side last three mornings. No big number but we're getting a few each morning. Today we got a couple mallards, a couple bluebills and a couple whistlers. Seem to be very few divers around.
  6. Nice fish. Don't often get a chance to fish in open water on New Years!
  7. Wind can certainly have an effect on shot string as you can see shooting cripples. That said, I find if I think about lead I can never hit anything. I always swing though and let instinct take over. Much better results than if I try to think it out.
  8. Hunted Canada this morning. Not many birds around. We didn't notice the bling tillI got home.
  9. Only shoot the hooded mergansers as they aren't to bad. Don't shoot other mergansers. I usually make sausage out of whistlers but I don't find them bad eating. Longtails are another story as I haven't found a good way to eat them yet. My fiends 80 year old dad also likes the whistlers.
  10. We hunted Canada this morning and saw more birds than in a while. Not great but they did decoy pretty well. From what I'm hearing I might be staying home and hunt rather that go to western zone. Also saw some snow geese migrating.
  11. I heard there was a big movement of snow geese today. We're going to try Canadian side tomorrow. Hope it is a sign of some new birds in the area.
  12. Thanks for the kind words from so many of my LOU buddies!
  13. Was able to mouth squeak a fox to within 15 feet of my daughters deck. My grandson loved it. I actually thought it was going to run up the deck!
  14. I've been seeing a ton of deer at my daughters while visiting in Colonia NJ. In only a few acres of woods among homes and I've seen this nice buck, a spike and a basket six. I took my two year old grandson for a short walk and we saw 15 in a 250 yard walk.
  15. Merry Christmas to you all! My Grandson is doing great! I'm looking forward to some late season water fowling and perhaps some more boat fishing.
  16. Merry Christmas to everyone. I appreciate all the information and any other additional updates as the season progresses. Good luck to all the hearty late season hunters
  17. My new grandson Ethan. Nothing like a new born laying on your belly!
  18. I like inflatables. They don't get in the way.
  19. They certainly both eat well.
  20. John, More geese then ducks but not many waterfowl for this time of year. On our way to NJ for the birth of another grandson. Will be there at least until Christmas. With warm weather predicted the perch bite should be a good option. They are bitting well at Chippewa and Chamount.
  21. We have Nexus cards, PAL cards and report in and out via phone.
  22. I've got plenty of longlines and decoys and float boat to cover most any conditions that I encounter. Thanks for the update guys.
  23. We hunted the Canadian side this morning and for the few birds we saw we did ok.
