Hunted the lake this morning and their weren't many birds. We did manage a mixed bag. Hoodie, buffleheads, redhead, broadbill, and black. -
Hunted geese with Prof T today and we shot 8. Fun time with great guys. -
I also use doctari tarred long lines. Best I've seen in several different lengths. Very few tangles. -
Thought I had them wired in a field that was loaded yesterday. First flock of six came right where we wanted them and we dumped 5. Unfortunately that was the only flock we shot at as they were dropping into an adjacent field. Fun to hunt with a nice group of guys including ProfT. Funny how four hunters each claimed they dropped three from the flock yet there were only 5 on the ground.o

Nice shoot. I hope to hunt an Amish farm for geese this week.

I bought a cheap plastic one and it didn't last two years. Bought a more expensive stainless one and I love it. Works much faster and has already lasted several years with zero issues. Use it to grind geese into sausage and just finished grinding deer into burger. Also have used it to stuff sausage. Over the long run I believe a good one is a better investment.

Missdemeanor, Sounds like a bitter sweet opener. I've been blessed to be able to hunt with some friends with good dogs as I don't currently own one. Makes the hunt much more rewarding seeing a dog do what they love. Good luck finding a good pup. -
Visiting my daughter's family in Colonia NJ and this large six point came strolling through their back yard. He was rutty and scraping. My 2 year old grandson loved seeing him. -
Haven't fished this month. Planning on goose hunting Thursday and Friday and will likely duck or deer hunt before that.

After harvesting a nice muzzleloader doe, I decided to visit my daughter's family rather than hunt the second season waterfowl opener and the regular deer opener. Couldn't have imagined doing that before I had a grandson to visit but priorities do change and being retired I have lots of days to hunt. I'll be back hunting next week but am blessed to have family to enjoy this weekend!

Pap, I've got her boned out and aging in the garage refrigerator. Will finish cutting and vacuum seal after aging. She was large, fat with very little lost meat. We will greatly enjoy the meat! Now I can relax and visit my daughter and grandson this weekend. The pressure is off and I can now look for a buck and waterfowl hunt. I do have another bow/muzzleloader tag and a couple DMP tags but likely won't use them. Perhaps if we get a nice day I can get my wife to sit a watch or two. She also has a muzzleloader tag and DMP tag.

I harvested a very large doe with my muzzleloader tonight. Her heart was literally cut in half and she ran over 100 yards. The TC shockwave broke a rib on each side destroyed the heart and had a large exit hole at around 70 yards.

I had a small fawn at 25 yards but didn't feel like taking it. Their were a couple doe in the area but no shots were available. Latter, after making a move, I jumped a decent buck in a goldenrod field. It was probably shootable (around 150 yards) with my Pro hunter but I tried to range it and wasn't able to pull off a shot. I'll be back out this evening.

Trying to get one for my sister-in-law who has never shot one. She missed one opening morning and failed to shoot at one tonight that came in to 25 yards. Guess it's time for my brother or me to whack one.

Looks like we are in for a cold and rainy opening weekend. Wonder how it will effect the deer movement.

Great hunt and a beautiful bull. Do you mind me asking where you were hunting. My wife and I were in Toas this summer (beautiful area and decent fly fishing) and have thought about trying an elk hunt someday. We better hurry as the old legs aren't what they use to be. -
Great fish and I'm glad you took the release criticism so well ( many wouldn't have) I honestly believe they were simple trying to educate everyone. I've never fished for muskies, although I have caught a few small ones incidentally. Every year I say I'm going to put in some time and target them but once hunting season starts.............. Perhaps I should troll a few hours after chasing ducks. Good luck to all of you Muskie hunters. It's a beautiful time to be on the SLR!

I've been watching a flock of about 25 turkeys since the opener and have tried to make a move on them a couple times but all those eyes and ears make it tough. This morning I tried again and nearly got in range when they walked away from me. I made a move on them and was able to sneak along a brushy hedgerow within range to harvest a young Tom. I've seen many flocks this fall and I believe they had a good hatch this summer which is great since their numbers seemed down this spring.

The roost hunt was decent. Ended up with 5 woodies but again got to see a great show after shooting hours. Unfortunately we did loose a few birds that even Bailey couldn't retrieve. Lots of geese in the area now that season is closed. That wraps up the early season for me. -
Well the best laid plans didn't pan out this morning. Rather than the hundreds of ducks we saw on Wednesday, we only saw a fraction of them today. To make things worse they had a different flight pattern. We only ended up with 2 woodies, one that the dog found that was not shot by us. We will try again this evening on the roost we hunted on Sunday. We are hoping the rain and clouds will bring them in a bit earlier.

Hunted yesterday and this morning. Yesterday we limited on woodies (6) but saw hundreds of birds. We are returning there tomorrow morning with a better set up plan and high expectations. Today we got 4 mallards and 3 teal on another private marsh. Had to make a quick move to adjust to where they wanted in. If we had been there earlier we would have limited out. I'm very fortunate to be hunting with Gabe Ward who has a great dog and has done a great deal of work scouting out new areas. Being retired is certainly great for having time to do what I love but there old legs aren't what they use to be. Walking in marshes beats me up but I'm fortunate to still be at it.

I've been chasing ducks , deer and turkey with limited success. Hunting ducks Wed., Thurs and Friday and headed to Syracuse Sunday and Monday so I don!t think I'll get a chance to hit the river this week. I hear they are hitting in Ogdensburg.
