  1. Hit Selkirk early this morning and after catching 3 Browns my buddy turned green and wanted to head in. Predicted <1 footers turned into >2. It was fortunate cause when I pulled the boat I saw foamy oil coming out the exhaust. Dropped the boat off at Martins and they think I blew a head gasket. Can't even look at it till Monday. Now no boat for opener of walleyes. Oh well, I can still chase turkey and have a 16 foot Gheenoe with a 6 hp. So I can fish smaller lakes for crappie, bullhead and Millsite for for Lakers and landlocks so I'm not completely out of the game and things could always be worse.
  2. Fished out of Sandy Creek toward the sands. It was pretty slow but we managed to pick up 3 decent Browns all on sticks off the boards in 10-14 fow. Only saw a few other boats out and didn't see any others boated. Water was clear except west of Sandy Creek and temp was from 40.9-43.7.

  4. I've done decent running sticks off boards and off shallow riggers. Lots of area to fish and you will also pick up some nice pike. Fish may be anywhere so just get out and troll and watch what other boats are doing. It may take a while to figure out a pattern but fishing can be very good.
  5. I tried to add stabilizer and refill the tank after 2 years and ended up having to pump out a 70 Gallon tank and clean the carb.I believe I'd get rid of the old and start fresh.
  6. I' pretty sure it's over. Water warming rapidly.
  7. Took a trip to Rossie last night and observed the walleyes running up the river from Black Lake. It's an annual spectacle that brings a fair number of people and a DEC game warden is there 24/7. Saw quite q few eyes glowing with the aid of a spot light. it's amazing how many can be in the some nights.
  8. With the warmer water temperatures the bait has started to move into the shallow water and the crappies and bass are on the bait. I fished a couple areas along the St Lawrence and found some nice crappies but not in large numbers. yesterday I caught about half dozen and I may try again.
  9. Thanks for the good news! Hope to run down this week.
  10. I'm anxious to get out as well so would appreciate any update on Mexico.
  11. The launch on Krings and Goose Bay was still ice and lots off ice outside but there is quite a bit of open water you could get a canoe in on the point. A few guys fishing from shore and one in a small boat.
  12. Can get a license on Hill Island on the bridge or I believe you can get hold of TI Bait Store and they can get them for you. Good suggestions on fishing in Canadian waters. Personally I general fish NY side even though I have a Canadian license.
  13. I want to try at night with a lantern as I hear they will come near the surface.
  14. I caught 48 smelt today in 72 fow most were near the bottom.

    Smelt

Ventured out on the ice yesterday and although it was a slow, pick I managed to get 22 smelt (enough for a meal). Ice was a bit sloppy but by later in the day wasn't too bad and with a couple cold nights should be easy to move on by foot or with my ATV.
  17. Very sorry to hear of your loss. Nothing quite like the link between a hunter and his dog. A dog can never really be replaced especially if it's a once in a lifetime type. My condolences.
  18. Great story, you had me hooked and reeled in at the net. I'm pretty experienced with waterfowl and turkey, have all the gear, and am happy to share what I know about this area.
  19. I have lots of waterfowl and turkey experience, all the gear needed, and am happy to share what I know. I'm pretty experienced with waterfowl and turkey, have all the gear, and am happy to share what I know about this area.
  20. I have a Remington 1100 in 3 ", a Remington 1187 in 3 1/2" and a Winchester SX 3 in 3 1/2". The Remington's work fine if kept clean but I really like the Winchester. That said, I know several people that have Stoeger 2000 and for the cost they may be worth looking into. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  21. When I was a kid they use to fill wash tubs with them out of Lake Ontario. In college we would dip them in Seneca tributaries and get 5 gallon pail full. Now I'm happy to jig up enough for a meal from local lakes. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

    Smelt

Fished an Indian River Lake this afternoon and caught 30 smelt. Wish I could salt and freeze some for bait but they wouldn't be certifiied. Guess they will make a good meal.
  24. I had very good year on the river and am even getting some through the ice. It seem my home fishery is prospering. I did put in many early mornings and middle of the night outings but ways rarely skunked. I too have enjoyed learning and sharing information with many great people on this site and hope to personally meet and perhaps fish with some of you in 2015.
