  1. Yep you never know from day to day.
  2. Fished near Ogdensburg on Thursday and caught 6 eyes and 2 pike all jigging. Kept limit of eyes, 27, 26,and 18" and released three shorts. Lost another nice one at the hole. returned last night and got skunked athough my friend got 2 shorts and a nice pike.
  3. Had an interesting years with some highs and lows. Great early season geese and decent early ducks. I then didn't get out much till the end of the year and after a unsuccessful trip to the Finger Lakes had a couple great shoots on the Canadian side.
  4. A great way to wrap up the year with a nice mixed limit. 10 mallards, 7 whistlers and a broadbill. Had to break ice today and I believe the cold weather is going to ice in the launch but still hoping for one more day!
  5. Hunted with Matt and Stu this morning on the Canadian side of the river where the season is still open and had a nice morning.
  6. Good to see the officer knew the law .
  7. Hunted today and decided to bag the rest of the trip do to lack of success and wind forecast for Lake Ontario the next couple days.
  8. Hunted a smaller Finger Lake and we shot a pair of mallards and two Ruddy ducks the first I've ever taken. Going to try a different lake tomorrow. We did see some redheads but not a ton of birds .
  9. Headed to Western zone tomorrow to scout and the hunt midweek.
  10. Thanks for the feedback. Will scout a little torrid and hunt midweek.
  11. Thanks for the update. We are going to scout Seneca and Canadaqua on our way to Honeyoye on Monday.
  12. Anyone out after ducks for the opener this weekend? Headed down to Western zone on Monday and wondering if there are many birds around.
  13. Anyone have any information on waterfowl numbers and launch conditions for the upcoming late season in the western zone. Specifically on the Finger Lakes or Western Lake Ontario area? I'd like to make a run down after Christmas if conditions seem favorable.
  14. Unfortunately I have not felt well the last month or so and have done very little in the way of hunting or fishing I just had little motivation.. I''m feeling much better the last week and am getting back into the swing of things. I think. I may have overdone it chasing walleyes this summer and the lack of sunlight this fall didn't help. I also keep getting nasty Why popups on this site which I can't get rid of. Only on this sit.. Thanks for your concern.
  15. Great looking birds and beautiful country.
  16. Yep lots of them.
  17. It took longer to set up the decoys than to shoot our 9 goose, three man limit. We alternated shots and killed 9 with 10 shots.
  18. I've heard of the worm trick but seldom tried it. Might work well on the river. I'll have to give it a test.
  19. I actually haven't hunted or fished since I took the deer. The sleepless night, and many early mornings throughout the summer and fall finally caught up with me so other than processing the deer and doing work around the house I've been resting up. I'm also in no real hurry to harvest more game or fish as I currently have a good supply. I may even take a trip with my wife to NJ this weekend to visit my daughter and her family.
  20. After chasing ducks in the morning I decided to try the afternoon opener with the muzzleloader. I took a shot with about 10 minutes of shooting time left and although I had a good rest and the deer acted hit he ran into pretty thick brush. An hour search turned up no blood or hair. After spending a sleepless night I resumed my search this morning and extended my grid. After another hour I actually thought I smelled it before I saw it. Certainly he's not a monster but I earned him and beat the coyotes to the meat. He was quartering to me more than I thought and I took out a lung and the liver resulting in the 200 yard recovery. I never did find any blood or hair. I've learned not to guess where a deer has gone and limit your search to that area when you don't find blood. You need to grid search the entire area as they often change their original direction of travel. This deer had made a right angle change of direction and wasn't where I thought he went.
  21. Managed to get my friend Jim his first duck this morning on his pond. Nice male ring neck. Tomorrow is the last day of early duck season and then I'll be muzzleloading deer.
  22. Bluebird days are clear sky bright sun and little wind and there not generally productive for water fowling. Of course there are exceptions.
  23. Hunted there again this morning and shot 2 wigeon and a mallard. Saw a fair number of ducks but it was a bluebird day.
