After a poor day on the lake yesterday we hit the goose field today. We had an outstanding day finishing with 71 birds. We pulled the plug 4 short of the 5 man limit with birds still working the field. What a great way to spend a morning. I'll post a picture with the full crew when I get it but here ias a photo with three of us. Gabe's dog Bailey once again did a wonderful job.

Justin, I had an incident today on the lake when a charter cut behind me and hung my 400 foot copper and FF on his rigger. Not a boat within a half mile and no one at all behind me and he had to cut that close. After pulling lines and chasing him down he said it hooked his rigger and he threw it bask in after he unhooked it. At that point it was no longer attached to my backing. Rather than trash him on a post, I called him for an explanation and he apologized and at least he offered to pay for half the replacement.cost.

Well, we got a touch beat up on the lake this morning at Henderson.. NOAA Marine said 1 footers or less and it ended up easy 3 footers and some bigger fishing from my 18 foot Lund Alaskan.. We took a couple over the bow before we said uncle.after fishing about 6 hours. I also lost an 400 foot copper wire and Flasher fly to another boat that cut too close behind me and hung it on his rigger. He was also a charter captain so should have known better..There wasn't another boat within a half mile of us and nobody at all behind me. Rather than trash him on this forum I called him for an explanation and he apologized and at least offered to pay half the replacement cost. Oh and we also got skunked so it's back to the goose fields in the morning.

I too use 50 no snubber.

Rude, irresponsible boat behavior is always a pain and if drinking is involved it seems to only make it worse.

I seldom even see another boat when I fish in the early mornings. That and the fact that the fish are active is good motivation for me to get a very early start and be off the water when most people are just putting in.

I smacked the walleyes again this morning and heard a few geese passing over. Perhaps the cold front will bring some migratory birds. We have a goose hunt planned with friends on the 21st near Resselear Falls for my brother-in-law to be's pre-wedding send off followed by a pheasant hunt on a game farm and a walleye feed. I would enjoy spending time together again Todd. You're more than welcome to join me for walleyes or salmon anytime, although my Lund isn't the rig you're use to fishing out of.!

Prof T, Welcome to the board. Lots of information is shared here. I'm not sure where on the river you are located but I'm from near Alex Bay. I can't think of a better area to live for an outdoorsman. Since retiring from teaching 6 years ago I've been living the dream. Feel free to send me a pm if you'd like to chat as I've lived in the area for nearly 40 years and have quite a lot of information I'm willing to share. Those Lake smallmouths are certainly pigs. I caught some Kings in the trench on Monday and got some of those smallies by Galoo a couple weeks ago. Generally I'm night fishing the walleyes near Alex Bay or fish the Indian river lakes during the summer. Come fall I'm chasing waterfowl , deer and turkey. Plenty to do within two hours of here. Life is good!

Anyone wacking any geese? Many of the properties I formerly are no longer available to me. I haven't been out yet but hope to get in a few shoots latter in the early season. We do have access to a farm in St Lawrence County that is generally very good once a few migratory birds move down. The good thing is the farmer is marrying my sister-in -law in a month so I should have access for a long time!

My wife and I fished a couple hours last night and caught about a dozen largemouths. Senkos and topwater both took fish but the ones we took in shallow on the top were smaller than those on Senkos on the weed drop offs.

For the third month in a row the full moon has produced excellent catches for me. The walleyes seem to move up on shallower shoals and even suspend in shallower depths. I caught most on deep divers off long line and several in 30-50 fow suspended. As the sun came up I did pick up a couple on the bottom bouncers in 30-45 fow. I went 6 for 9 and released 3 about 19-20 inchers. The ones I kept weighed 7.1, 5.9, and 3.5 lbs.
