Nice. I put out a deer roadkill for coyote bait a few winters ago and had an eagle sitting in a pine tree near it the next morning. Seems like I'm seeing them more frequently lately,

I hear the walleye bite on the lake is a little slow right now. I'm hitting the river in the morning.

I talked to Steve and he said the day after we fished they boated 28 smallies!
-
This time of year they are often really on the crabs and the gobies can give worms fits but real soft shells are not easy to get.
-
Chas, We have also often found a 10:00 -2:00 bite fishing big fish on the lakes deep water shoals (30-50 fow) while I do much better at night when fishing the river. Strange but true.
-
Steve said Calf and Gallo are generally good this time of year but the water temps are much colder than normal and fishing seems to be off in general right now. Mike at Martin's Marina said the same is true out of Md Bay.

IA group of us fished with a guide out of Henderson today for bass. Fishing was slow but we got a few quality smallies and had a great shore dinner on Gallo Island. Captain Steve Gould shared a great deal of information on walleye fishing in the area and has had some tremendous days with limit catches containing several eyes in the 13-14 lb. range.

Our group fished with Capt. Steve Gould out around Stony and Gallo Islands today. With the lake being mixed by the strong winds last week, fishing was a little slow but we did catch some quality smallies. Steve worked his butt off, was very informative and the shore lunch we had on Gallo was exceptional. The bass were deep in 35-55 fow and were taking soft shell crabs.

I fished with a couple buddies in his boat today. Headed to the Lake to try for large walleyes but ended up with two eyes around 6 lbs. and a couple of catfish caught on deep divers.

For a change of pace I went to the lake with a couple friends in his boat. We hoped to find some big eyes but ended up with two around 6 lbs. and two catfish which hit deep divers. Not the fish we were hoping to find.

I have an 18 foot Lund Alaskan. As trapper said during the day on it can get dicey with large wakes. If you stay in Goose or Chippewa Bay you can get by with a 14'. It's much worse from the bridge to Alex Bay particularly on weekends.

Smallmouths should be on shoals along the channel in 30 fow or more (perhaps as deep as 80 feet). Crabs and worms are working. May get largemouths on Senkos in weed pockets in shallower water. Walleyes are on channel shoals with current. Night bite is best but they can be caught early and late. Try trolling deep divers in 20-35 fow. Whiskey Island Shoal is a spot not too far from Krings that holds bass and walleyes. I haven't fished northerns but did catch one inside Diamond Island Shoal in front of Krings throwing a spoon a couple weeks ago in 20 fow. As for muskies, good luck, they're out there but not easily targeted. Most caught this time of year are caught accidentally. I've made many post on the Alex Bay region of the river you might want to check.

TD 11 is a Rapala Tail Dancer size 11 Fiserman72, I've been friends with Mike Ringer for many years. We taught together at Alex Bay for nearly 20 years and have hunted and fished together for almost 40 years. He currently has his studio in Alex Bay and a gallery in Clayton and is a very well know and successful artist. They also give you a musky print of his for a released muskie. We have also had submitted a series of humorous articles ripping on each other in the local TI Sun. ( Check out last weeks paper) I am fortunate to have number of his originals paintings gracing my walls. Not sure if he'll be doing a painting but there is a good chance that I may submit an article about our day fishing on the river in an upcoming TI Sun.

How big does it have to be to go to taxidermist?
Kevin J Legg replied to fbg14619's topic in Walleye
I've never had one mounted but have caught many over 10 and a few over 11. I fish areas where a 10 isn't uncommon, so for me It would have to be over 13 and then I'm not sure if I wouldn't just take a photo and release it. I catch many eaters on the river so generally release the big girls after a quick photo. However, on some bodies of water a 10 would be a fish of a lifetime, Whatever makes you happy is what I would say. When I was guiding I had clients mount 8 lb. fish. -
