  1. Good going Justin. I hit the geese yesterday and stopped at Salmon River for an hour but very little fish moving there. What a difference from last week. Windy forecast for the lake this week but I haven't forgotten you.
  2. We managed to knock down 8 this morning but two were cut off in the photo. Decent opening day
  3. I generally run 20-25# fluorocarbon 4 1/2' behind heavy bottom bouncers when trolling deep with stick baits, If running deep divers I use 3' of the same fluoro leader off a barrel swivel, same with down riggers. It really helps reduce chafing from zebra mussels and is less visible but still requires frequent checking. I use a snap for easy changing of the lures.
  4. Justin, We're trolling around 1.5-2.0 so we don't need to slow down much for the walleyes but when trolling faster for kings we cut it back to around 1.5. I had a great day on the salmon river yesterday with my fly rod. Posted a nice photo on Tributary Site. Hope things work out so we can get together.
  5. We were targeting trophy walleyes and since it was caught 130 feet behind a board the fight wasn't spectacular. We actually thought we had a walleye. Nothing like the many salmon we caught on fly rods today. They are spectacular caught fresh in the river.
  6. I finally got out today. Had a rip on a dipsy out 255 over 112 fow. Got it behind the boat twice and it ripped out more wire, third time the hook pulled loose. Tried out deeper to 140 and didn't do any so trolled back into 100-110 foot range and picked up a 24 lb. on a FF off the rigger down 100. Had a couple knock offs on the riggers and caught a small steelie. Kind of a slow day for us but at least we got Tony his first salmon.
  7. Shouldn't be hard to get someone with some knowledge from this site to hop aboard and give you some tips. Best advice is higher a good guide for a day and ask many questions and take notes as you can learn more in a day than in years of experimenting on your own. Also local tackle stores are always good for information. Buy what they suggest and ask how to run it. That said, if you simply duplicate what is being posted as successful and set flashers and flies at proper depth and speed on the riggers you should be able to hit some staging salmon.
  8. Glad you got into some. Did you get out to Charity?
  9. Great report. I'm doing my gramps thing for a few more days then back home and hit the salmon and walleyes.
  10. Born this morning at 6:26.
  11. My grandson finally arrived and is 22" long so is a keeper. Looking forward to first time I take him fishing!
  12. Hope these changes don't lead to over harvest and an end to early season.
  13. Justin, Being retired makes a world of difference. I remember turkey hunting before school, teaching and coaching after school every day. Now I pick my days and avoid weekend crowds when possible. Oh and I still get out most days. Today we're NJ bound as my daughter is in labor!
  14. WOW, THEY REALLY DO WANT THE NUMBERS KNOCKED DOWN. Those changes should certainly make a difference in harvest numbers.
  15. I'd try Charity shoal if weather was right.
  16. Although I posted this photo on the walleye forum I thought it deserve a post on the bass forum. It was caught while walleye fishing on the Lake in 45 fow on a Trolls To Rapala off a board. Only a shade over 22" but a tremendous girth. It weigh 7.3 Lb.on our scale an hour after it was caught.
  17. Nice
  18. Here are a few walleye photos. Why are photos turned various directions?
  19. The smallmouth was a shade over 22" but had super girth. I've actually boated longer ones but never one that approached it's mass. It was extremely dark in color and did look like a grouper or big black sea bass. One more year and it may have overtaken the state record of 8.4 lbs. I guess the smallies really are thriving on the gobies!
  20. Caught it suspended about 25 down in 45 fow.
  21. I spent an incredible day on Lake Ontario with Kelly Page and Pete Stratton. We were trolling deep diving cranks off boards. Fished from 7:00-2:00 and went 13 for 15 with two lost behind the boat. Fish ranged from 6.5 to 10.5 pounds and we also caught a 7.5 pound smallmouth ( the largest I've ever seen boated) We kept three and release ten. We had 3 doubles and ended the day with a quad although we landed the first before the forth one hit. We caught them on TD 11, Reef Runners, and Trolls To in a variety of colors and no I'm not going to share the location as I've been sworn to secrecy. I'll post more photo but here is a hog of a smallmouth.
  22. I'm headed to Kingston Ontario in the morning with friends to hit the big walleyes on the shoals. I'll let you know how we make out.
  23. I've got around 200 on a hay field and can't wait till the first.
  24. Justin , Thanks for the information. I'll have to give them a try sometime. I've seen the surface swirls on schools of bluegills and thought they were likely tigers on the feed. They are a really pretty fish!
  25. Mr. Walleye joined me for an evening crappie fish and we hit them pretty well again.
