  1. Nice fish Justin, I have a small lake about a mile from my home that has tigers in it . Since there is a 10hp limit on the launch I seldom fish it as I would have to use my Gheenoe with a six hp. I have caught a few casting f18 Rapala and through the ice ( I caught two small ones through the ice last winter). Maximum depth is about 35 feet and it's basically a bowl with a few weed beds stretching out to 15 feet. What trolling strategy would you suggest? Send me a pm if you want.
  2. Good job Justin
  3. Canada customs number is 888-226-7277. As I understand as long as you don't anchor or go to shore you can report in by phone. US customs 888-523-2628. You will need names, birthdays, and perhaps passport numbers for all in the boat as well as boat registration numbers.
  4. Only caught one this morning but it was a good one. I got it off the rigger down 32'.
  5. I often make a troll up river and then drift down river jigging.
  6. Fish cakes are great with just about any fish. I have used browns or salmon and people love them. I use same basic recipe sited above and you can use leftover cooked fish too.
  7. Hit the crappies again this evening with the same results. Another nice limit.
  8. Gator, I sure am blessed to live in a great area for outdoor enthusiasts and being retired am able to take full advantage of it. With Lake Ontario, the St Lawrence River, the Indian River Lakes, the Salmon River, the Adirondacks, and the Bay of Quinte all within an hour and a half drive I have world class potential for many species of fish and game. Having lived here for nearly forty years, I've fortunately mastered many of the techniques for a successful outing. Nice to hear that your daughter is interested in sharing time with you.
  9. I made a quick evening run to an Indian River Lake last night to try the crappies. I found a bunch off a weed bank in about 12 fow and caught one nearly every cast. All were caught on jigs and Powerbait minnows on a 1/16 jig head most hit it on the fall. Caught all 25 in around a half hour and they were still pounding when I left.
  10. All the fish eating talk got me to try the crappies in a local lake last evening. I limited out in about an hour! I posted a photo and details under panfish site.
  11. From what I observed I don't think it dives a great deal deeper than TD 11.
  12. I caught a couple large pickerel ice fishing this winter at Henderson. When I filleted them I was expecting them to be like a pike but I too found they are different in bone structure. That said, when I cooked up a batch of fish, my wife rated them ahead of everything else. Once you learn how to fillet pike they are also great fish to eat. Handled correctly, cleaned correctly and cooked correctly nearly everything that I keep is delicious.
  13. Just got the photo and that same Live Target took a walleye and a big smallmouth for me one morning .
  14. I don't know if you can go to big. I caught one on that same lure earlier this year and the 900 series Reef runners are a mouthful but we've taken some hogs on them. Your lure photo didn't come through for me.
  15. The halibut I brought back from Alaska is hard to beat but the Black Sea bass from Cape Cod are also very good. I give away a great of filleted fish and often have fish fries at our church. Most people can't tell the difference between any of it when it's cut into fingers, bread and fried! Sometimes I keep them separated and poll the eaters to see which they liked best. In my opinion perch are tough to beat!
  16. I'm currently on grandson wait so until he is born things will be day to day on the river. Also the salmon are calling and early goose season is rapidly approaching. The Lake O shoal bite should be picking up and late fall at Quinte is truly trophy time.
  17. On the SLR: Bombers, Smithwicks off riggers, Deep Diving Tail Dancer 11 and Reef runners. Bay of Quinte/ Lake Ontario: TD11, Deep diving Reef Runner, 900 series Reef Runner and F18 Rapala Ice fishing - jigging spoon (Deadly Dick, Castmaster), Rapalla jig tipped with minnows Big baits= big walleyes 10 lb +
  18. Great morning Justin. At least you got a look at the big eye. I hate losing a big fish and never knowing what it was. What's with the catfish? I've caught them on just about anything you would use for walleyes. Always a huge disappointment.
  19. I hear you on getting the gear ready to go. With so many different methods of catching them it seems like I spend a great deal of time making sure all my gear and rigs are ready to roll. You certainly don't want to be messing with gear in the dark during prime fishing time, even with a head light.
  20. I've tried preparing big cats several ways including smoking and personal don't like them.( seem to have a muddy, seaweedy flavor) Perhaps I'm spoiled eating mostly walleye, perch, crappie and browns and salmon but they sure put a bend in the rod!
  21. Yea, I knew it was not a walleye about half way in when it was taking drag that was set pretty tight.
  22. Here's a photo of channel cat I caught this morning. Sent him back as I don't eat them.
  23. We were using 3/4 and 1 oz and with trolling motor could work to over 90 fow.
  24. Was a tough bite this morning. You might want to try fishing deep as I found the bait has moved from 35-40 fow to 65-95 feet. One we caught on a bucktail was down about 90'.
  25. Fished this morning and the bait where I have been fishing was gone. Tried trolling, jigs, jigging spoons and harnesses and finally hit what I thought was a monster on a worm harness in 95 fow. After a thumping give and take battle we finally netted what turned out to be an 11.3 LB catfish. We did hit one 22" walleye around 90 feet down on a bucktail jig, and a few smallmouths. Seems the walleyes may have been deeper today. That's also where I was marking the bait.
