  1. I haven't heard much on Quite. Their fishing forum has been unusually quiet this summer. There is a Sherriff and a State Police boat moored at Keewayden State Park. They routinely patrol the Alex Bay area. I'm not sure on the law regarding fishing in the shipping channel but in 40 years on the river, I've never heard of anyone being hassled.
  2. We've all still have a lot to learn when it comes to walleyes! I learned a lot about fishing boards from fishing with Landshark and Kelly Page By the way the Chamberlain down rigger release is similar to the Black but has two adjustments allowing you to have a tight bent rod but a lighter release on fish like walleye. I currently still use the Blacks but will try Chamberlains next as I believe they are superior.
  3. I'm along the edges of the channel all the time but mostly in the morning before much boat traffic. Personally I've never had an issue.
  4. Justin will keep you on tract.
  5. I had a 22' StarCraft Offshore that did the same thing. I was told it's a characteristic of deep V hulls.
  6. I've never fished Tupper but know it does have nice fish.
  7. I agree with Justin. The morning and evening walleye bite is best here on the St Lawrence. During the day the fish seem move much deeper. Boat control and depth are crucial. Lots of techniques can work but they all require knowledge of the bottom contours and proper presentation. There is no substitute for experience. Sometimes they suspend but most I catch are near bottom.
  8. Confidence is definitely a big factor in fishing. The more success we have using a given technique the more confidence it breeds. We also tend to fish more with a method we are confident in and thus catch more fish with it. I have some starting points when setting both spoons and FF but change up if they are not producing. I believe patience is very over rated in fishing!
  9. Caught three nice walleyes this morning (22-25"). Variety was the key as we caught one on a jig, one off the rigger, and one on a heavy bottom bouncer. All came from 30-45 fow.
  10. They're definitely not as dumb as they were when the early season was first introduced.
  11. Just saw that they have tentatively raise the limit during the early goose season from 8 to 15. Better order some more shells.
  12. I had mine done by the Coast Guard Auxiliary a few years back.
  13. Sounds like a fantastic month Justin.
  14. Thanks for posing. To bumpy for my boat till perhaps Tuesday.
  15. Another slow morning for walleyes. Only had one real nice fish on while trolling and it came unbuttoned. Due to location and feel I'm fairly certain it was a quality walleye but I never got a look. Scratched out 7 smallmouths but not what I was looking for
  16. Charlie, I'm a retired teacher from the Alex Bay area and fish the lake in the same areas that you do. I also fish the river for walleyes and bass. I'll send you a PM with my phone number.
  17. That's definitely a beauty. My buddy caught it's twin in Conesus a few years back. I'm still trying to get one over 13!
  18. Got back on the walleyes this morning. Caught two fishing with 1 oz. bucktail and a piece of a worm drifting in 35-40 fow and a third one on a stick bait off the rigger. We also caught a 19" smallmouth on the jig.
  19. Nice report and a super brown.
  20. Fished Henderson area out of my 18' Lund yesterday and the <1 footers were actually 2-3 footers which made it bumpy. We hit 2 browns right off the bat on the finger 65 down over 85 fow on magnum spoons off riggers. Picked up a skippy and then couldn't hit anymore except a couple knock offs. Did take one rip on a FF dipsy at 215 out. Moved out toward the trench and fished 135-160 fow and picked up a lake trout. near the bottom. Decided to call it a day instead of fighting the waves. Didn't mark much bait .
  21. Eel are not legal now in the river. We use to catch them often fishing smallmouth but haven't caught one in years. The smallmouth fishing is good and I'm hitting a few when I troll for walleyes. Mostly fo 10-35 fow but some deeper.
  22. Nice. hose Roboworms are a great drop shot bait. Can fish them from 10-100' by switching the amount of weight.
  23. Another slow morning dodging the rain. I lost a nice walleye right at the net but it was my only hit. I did get a couple smallmouths. Think I will change things up a bit and make a run to the lake and give the salmon and trout a try on Wednesday.
  24. Now that's the way to catch lakers! I've done it on the Finger Lakes and am going to try it on Ontario. Thanks for the post.
