  1. I fished a small Indian River Lake with my fly rod this afternoon. Sunfish were shallow on the beds and bluegills were on the outside weed edges. Fish were very cooperative taking both the popper and the bead head nymph dropper. I caught fish of all sizes but plenty of nice ones to eat and freeze. It really is a blast to catch them this time of year.
  2. Finally got nice Tom on a foggy morning this morning. 9 1/4" beard.
  3. After some colder weather last week I hit the water yesterday and we caught 28 crappies and some gills They are still in the shallows..
  4. Thanks for the report I haven't been down in a couple weeks but it's good to get an idea what's happening.
  5. Hit them again today. Thirty crappies and 24 gills.
  6. Joe, Love that asparagus I may throw in some crappies that I catch this afternoon and also a rhubarb pie. Fin and feather! Doesn't get much better than that.
  7. Hope this isn't offensive to anyone but to me it's a rite of spring.

    Crappie

My wife and I fished a couple hours on an Indian River Lake and caught a nice bunch of crappies.
  9. I was thinking of going to Lisbon this week. Lots of guys from Alex Bay hit it opening weekend.
  10. Losing a great hunting friend is like loosing a great hunting dog. Both are impossible to replace and will always be fondly remembered. My condolences.
  11. Fished Quinte Sat. and Sunday with a gang of 14 fisherman in 5 boats. We ended up with a good fish fry Sat. night and enough walleyes for everyone to bring home their legal limit. It definitely was a slower bite this spring with worms and spinners taking the fish. Sunday was particularly slow with high pressure, light winds and blue sky. Mostly smaller fish with a few in the 3-3 1/2 lb. range. Good to catch up with the gang again.
  12. Good advice given. I use a small weighted float and 4-6 pound test line. 1/16-1/64 oz. jig with a minnow. Sometimes I put a tube jig on for added color and size but still use minnow and sometimes use Berkley 1" gulp minnow or 2" power bait. Many times I fish two and sometimes three rods varying the jig depth from 1-4 feet or more to find what they want. This allows lots of experimenting till you find what they want and then it's general game on. Water temps. are just about spot on now for good crappie activity and with the warm weather the action should really heat up.
  13. Sounds like a great hunt and from personal experience I'm pretty certain you were more excited than your daughter. She'll never forget it!
  14. I fished yesterday and kept around 10 crappie. Not fast and furious but they are starting to hit as water temperatures approach 60 degrees.
  15. I believe there was a good run and we were too late.
  16. Guess I'll stay up this way at least we're getting some quality fish.
  17. What's up with Mexico this year?
  18. My brother and I enjoyed watching my wife his catch a limit of browns this morning. RR spoons did most of the damage. The bite was not real hot and slowed about 10:00. Once again caught some decent size fish with largest fish weighing 9.3 pounds.
  19. Good luck Ryan. Were headed back to Stoney.
  20. Although it wasn't hot and heavy we still had a decent morning on the lake. Ended up with 6 browns and a laker. Largest brown was 9.8lbs.and the laker was 8.6. It was my sister-in-laws first time on the lake and she had a ball. Several fish had large alewives (5-6") in their stomach so I might try some magnum spoons tomorrow. Caught most on spoons but a couple on j9s. Just had some grilled brown for diner and it was delicious.
  21. I have an easy troll that links my 60hp Mercury to a 9.9 kicker but I seldom run the kicker, as the main engine trolls my 18' my Lund Alaskan down to about 1.5 mph and gives we better control.
  22. I have a 2007 Merc 4 stroke and went to Don's Prop in Clayton. He put on a different prop than it came with from factory and although the top end speed didn't change much, the power improved significantly. My 18' Lund Alaskan runs around 29 mph and performs much better with the new prop. I believe the new prop is a touch larger and definitely has a different pitch. Unfortunately I don't have the specs. for the new prop but I'm sure Don's Prop could help.
  23. We had a very slow morning fishing out of Mexico yesterday. In four hours only caught one brown about 5 pounds. Pulled and made a move to Stoney and picked up 3 browns (biggest 9.1 lbs.) and a 8.6 laker in a couple hours. Just shows the need of being flexible.
  24. Fished the River today and although we kept around 50 there were many smaller fish to weed through. More males and smaller females. Still was able to put 3 bags of fillets in the freezer.
  25. Although most are spawned out females the perch are still available on the river. Been fishing Jefferson County so there is no limit. Caught a pail and a half yesterday and a cooler full today.
