We got lucky that the wire didn't break, or those flying pieces could have put someone's eye out. Always good to wear your sunglasses... oh wait... that won't work for you anymore Wayne Those sunglasses were great. I bought them for about $20 at Bass Pro and wore them for almost two full seasons without a scratch on them. I hope the fish enjoy them as much as I did!

Troy, I think we may have ended up with one of those top secret SD's. It wouldn't happen to be clear would it??? That must be one tangled mess laying at the bottom of the lake. Tell Dawn to drive the boat straighter next time Barry, If I remember right you landed one of the big Kings I landed the skippy, and Ellie landed the one King on Copper, the laker on copper, and the last two Kings on the divers. She is becoming a rod hog just like me

Nick, Your pics are stellar today! I've been running some flies that are about 36-40" long (sometimes) and the fish seem to still hit them and my hook up ratio seems to be really good on those. I think sometimes the fish have a hrd time hiting and getting a good bite on a shorter fly that is moving around too much. ...but who knows.

This year is really awesome. I've caught more Kings this year so far than all of last year. I thought that smallest one was a Coho because it was shedding scales like crazy...like the cohos do. But, as I said...once it was landed it was thrown in the box immediately to get the second half of the double. Never did look at that fish closely. Can't wait to get out again. Hope it stays this good and we keep getting fishable weather.

Nick, You might have to relax today. We had a blast yesterday except for the 1 footers that were more like angry 2 footers! I need a bigger boat! I've got a golf tournament on Saturday and Sunday and don't think I'll be able to make it out unless I get out early and end by 10 am. Good luck out there if I don't see you.

Got out at the crack of dawn on the 4th and wasn't totally happy with the "1 footers" that were predicted. . . Set lines starting at 120 FOW and was extremly happy with the screens I was seeing. Major piles of bait with hooks all over the place. I should have taken a picture. Reminded me of the screens I see on Cayuga Lake! About 85-90 feet down the water was set right up. Extreme warm water to nice cold water. 80 foot down it was about 65 degrees and at 85 or 90 down it was in the high 40's in some areas. You could basically fish 80 - 100 feet down and you were on em. Anyway...after setting lines we trolled in a Northwest direction so we could hit the waves fairly straight on. About 20 minutes into it the 550 foot (formerly 600 feet) copper fires pulling a SD and Atomik Pro Am Live fly. Being the veterans and gentlemen that we are we handed the rod off to my girlfriend who we now affectionatley call "Coppergirl" About 20 minutes goes by and she lands a nice 23 Lb King. Her biggest to date. Not long after that the copper fires and we land a small Laker who got thrown back... Once again we gentlemen gave the rod to "Coppergirl" and she handled it like a pro After that we landed a skippy King. As we kept trolling we had our 300 diver fire and after a nice battle put a 22 lb King on the boat. I think it was caught on a Green Dot / White SD with Atomik Mirage fly. Here I am with the first two keepers We then ended our NW troll and turned around to troll back through the same line. On the troll back we couldn't get a rod to move and the fish/bait were gone. We decided to head deeper and shot straight North. Didn't really mark anything but at about 225 FOW all of the sudden our 300 wire gets ripping and I handed it to Copper girl. She does battle with this nice 12 lb or so Coho. As soon as we get it on the deck our other wire diver out 270 fires and I say to my girlfriend (aka Copper girl) "You want it?" She says yes! I hand it to her and after a 15 - 20 minute battle she lands this 17 lb King. After that, our cooler was full and we decided to call it a day at about 10:30 am. Here is a pic of Copper Girl with the two majors, a teenager and a Ho

Nicely done Bill. Keep up the good reports.

Agreed. Don't be afraid to buy and set up a wire rod. It is easy to use and costs just a tiny bit more....except the wire will last for many years vs the braided which seems to last maybe 2 years. Wire is FAR superior to braided for running divers.

Good Job Ray. That Brown we caught ended up weighing in officially at 13 lbs flat. Probably was 4 or 5 oz heavier when we caught it. At 13 lbs flat it didn't even make the top 20. We trolled for about 2 hours after catching that Brown and couldn't get a rod to fire. We then decided to head back toward port in about 150 feet and run over some marks I have in that area. We ended up getting into a pile of steelhead and landed 4 steelies in the last hour. Then, just before we pulled rods we caught a 10 or 11 lb brown. Everything but that last Brown was on divers out around 300 feet running Spindoctors and Atomik flies. NO Salmon for us...not even a skippy. Pretty unusual because that is just about all we have caught this year so far. That last Brown was on a 42nd spoon on rigger down 100. That wind and current was crazy. My 20hp kicker at wide open could'nt get my speed above 2.2 knots when heading into it. Of course....that is about 1 knot faster than you like to go

Nice job Nick. I like the shout out from Apple Boy - Kyle. P.S. You need to turn down the sensitivity on your auto pilot!!!! I usually run my autopilot on a #2 setting which keeps me straight enough yet isn't working so hard. Just hit the"disp" button about 4 or 5 times until a number appears...It will be #5 which is your default. Then hit the "-1" button 3 times until it says 2. Then hit disp button again. It will work so much less and be so much quieter you won't believe it. If you shut the power off to the autopilot, you will have to do this every time you fish. I only go up to a 3 setting when it is really windy and wavy.

LOC Summer Derby Question
stoutner replied to American-Honey's topic in Tournament Talk, Shows, Events & Seminars
Not sure about 30 lbs but I wouldn't waste my time weighing anything less than 27 or maybe even 28 lbs. The fish are HUGE already this year and the ones that we have caught are just stuffed with bait most of the time. 26.00 lbs will get you 18th place right now!!! WOW -
