  1. Mark, We had an 8lb 4 oz Laker, and 6 lb 6 oz laker and a 5lb 8 oz laker. The rest were 4 lbs and under. We went about 12 for 15 mostly lakers with 4 or 5 small salmon. Pretty good day all in all. I was very surprised to see how much that thermocline was set up. We had a huge temp change right about 55 down. At 80 down I was getting 39 degrees!!!! At 50 or 55 down I was getting about 55 degrees. The "breaking point" was about 57 feet down and I was marking crazy big fish sitting just a few feet below that all day at 60 down. We ran riggers right there at 60 down all day and could not get a taker. We tried all kinds of colors, combos etc and couldn't get those fish 60 down to go. Good time though!
  2. Congratulations! Sounds like you have a great wife....She allows you to go fishing on (or about) her due date! Nice
  3. No self respecting law enforcement officer would have even been out in that storm. It was much nastier than the video shows. When that front finally caught us in port I'll bet there were easily 35 mph + gusts. Make sure you find the fish we'll reel em in!!!!
  4. We were more worried about the massive lightning bolts than anything else. We only had lines in for maybe 20 minutes and picked a 4 lb brown. I saw a lot of circulating clouds and big lightning bolts....that was enough to make us pull up and haul ass. Check out the video I took.
  5. I first looked at the pic really quick and said to myself "nice King but not Huge". Then I scrolled through the comments and someone said 20 lb Brown???? I scrolled back up and holy crap! Nice fish!
  6. We had the ReelTurner out Friday night out of sodus bay and had this huge storm blowing in on us and chasin us about three miles until it caught us right in the port. If the video is too boring skip to about the 1 minute mark and watch it from there.
  7. Nice job Jason!
  8. ....that and Oneida Lake isn't a Finger Lake....although it is a nice lake
  9. Seneca might have a shot because if the weather is good enough I'm going up to the big lake to pound some of those pig browns and Kings! I may sneak out Saturday afternoon/evening on Cayuga to try to get a few though!
  10. Nice fish. If you ever get your phone wet again they say the best way to dry it out is to put it in a bag of uncooked rice overnight and the rice will absorb the moisture. I was out there (sodus) last night with Yukonstu1 and that was a NASTY front that came through. We had to hi tail it back just in front of the storm. The lightning bolts hitting the lake were scaring the hell out of me. I took some pretty cool video as we were trying to outrun the storm. I did see what looked like one boat about 5 miles west and 3 or so miles offshore of Sodus right about when that storm was hitting. Was that you guys? If so....you are nuts!
  11. Dre, This is our "league" for Team Seneca Vs Cayuga. This is just a league weekend. There is no tournament that I know of. Wayne
  12. Hey John, I think I may have seen your boat up in Pultneyville. Me and my guys just installed a small exhaust hood system at the Pultneyville Grill with the duct and fan running up the side of the building nearest the creek. I was checking out some of the boats while I was there. Some pretty sweet rigs there! Good luck and let us know if the Sharks show up! Wayne
  13. Sucks getting a hook stuck in you. Watch this video on hook removal. Some guy used this trick to get a hook out of my uncles finger during the Lake Trout Derby. It was quick and reasonably painless.
  14. Just paddling out to 150 feet of water is man-ing up! I just don't have the stones to go that far offshore in a "rowable life jacket" ...let alone effectively fish out of it. Great job!!!!!!
  15. Thanks Tom. Ray, good catch! If it ran off 1500 feet I would have had to tie in another spool of line! That would have been pretty tough given the circumstances Dave, Anytime you want to come up and fish with me give me a call. If the weather is good I am ready to go most Saturdays and Sundays....except this weekend of course. .....Wayne
  16. Very simple... Use a rod with a strong backbone, braided 30 lb line or preferably steel line. Reel must have line counter and should be able to hold 1000 feet of line for the screaming Kings on Lake O. Hook diver to main line then run 40 or 50 lb mono or leader about 6 - 8 feet long from diver to flasher and or spoon. I prefer Walker divers by far over other brands but they all work well. Walker #107 is the size most guys run....or Luhr Jensen 001. When seting the weight 0 is for straight back of course and if you want to run in on your port side turn the weight to 2 or 3 making sure the weight is "leaning" toward your boat with diver as it is being pulled through the water. Basically if you set the weight to 1, 2, or 3 setting, the weight must be "leaning" toward your boat when in use. Distance back varies but most guys use a 3 to 1 rule of thumb. If you want your diver down 100 feet then send it back 300 feet. Truth is if you only want it down 35 feet then it is more like a 2:1 ratio or maybe a 2.25:1 ratio. But, the deeper you go the more accurate that 3:1 ratio seems to be. i,e, 80 down is usually pretty close to240 back. Good luck. Divers can be more deadly than downriggers most of the time.
  17. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Balls Deep ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 6/19/11 Time on Water: 7:30 - 4:00 Weather/Temp: 60's and windy in morning 70's calm in afternoon Wind Speed/Direction: NNE Waves: 3's and occasional 4 in Morning and 1's and less in afternoon. Surface Temp: 62 Location: North of Hughes Marina LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 10 or 12 Total Boated: 4 keepers and 4 or 5 skippies Species Breakdown: Kings, Browns, Laker, Steelhead Hot Lure: Mag Green Dolphin, Bright Pink / Copper 3" spoon, 11" Lake O Big Weenie flasher/fly combo Trolling Speed: 2.25-2.75 Down Speed: 2-2.5 Boat Depth: 35 - 130 Lure Depth: 35 - 100 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Started out of Hughes Marina and fished for Brownies on word of a very good Brownie bite the day before. about 30 minutes into it in 45 -50 feet of water 42 down landed this nice 10 lb Brown on Pink / Copper spoon. Made a big loop and came back to same spot and took another big hit to same lure/rod. Grabbed rod and had a big hog on. Felt bigger than 10 lber from earlier. Fought it for about 5 seconds and it pops off Trolled around for about an hour more and no luck. Trolled due North (deeper) looking for calmer water and and more fish. Trolled out to about 250 and turned around. After the turn hit a few skippy kings around 14 or so inches long. Got back in to about 140 feet of water and landed a 7 or 8 lb laker. Kept heading in shallower and started marking bait and fish around 120 feet of water. got in to about 80 feet of water and Ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnggggggggg!! Starboard diver starts screaming! Fish runs off about 1500 (oops, I mean 150 feet) feet and we get it under control. In comes this pretty nice 11.5 lb King on a Big weenie 11" Lake O combo! Made a circle around to try to hit that same mark we we caught that King and we get within 50 yards of the spot and Ziiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnggggg! Center diver starts screaming drag!!!! Woooooooo Hooooooooo! This is why we fish Lake O! Fish runds off 200 or so feet, we get in under control and bring it in! 20 lb King off a mag sized Green Dolphin right down the shute diver back about 180 or 190. All in all a very long day enduring some really nasty stuff in the morning. Waves were relentless 2's and 3's, with an occasional rogue 4 footer just to keep you on your toes. My little 22' boat handled them well but at times it was tough standing let alone fishing!
  18. It is my understanding that Asian Carp need miles and miles of flowing water (Such as a really long river) in order to reproduce just like Striped Bass do. Therefore, they will not be able to reproduce in the great lakes. That is why they are so thick in the Mississippi. The currents of the great lakes might allow for some reproduction but very little because it is so spread out and so inconsistent. ....That is what I read in some magazine anyway. Who knows if it is true or not. http://www.ifishillinois.org/asiancarp/ ... Garvey.pdf
  19. The lake has not been "flipped" all Spring. It might be right now....I haven't been out. All I'm saying is I'm running the exact same speeds, colors, flies, flashers, depths, that I have been running for the past 3 or 4 years and I have had very little action compared to years past. I have also tried faster and slower speeds, different colors, different depths, etc and have not had much success with them for some reason so far this year. The Lake Trout I cashed in on the Lake Trout derby was on a diver/flasher/fly combo though I agree that Downriggers seem to be more productive this years than in years past.....who knows???? Jason, When I talked to you up at the Lake Ontario Trollers show in Lockport at the Big Weenie booth I ended up buying that Big Weenie 11" Lake O combo flasher / fly and it has been my hottest flasher fly combo this year. I also bought the HillBilly 11" combo and haven't caught any on that but that will probably be pretty good for Lake O Salmon. I'll be trying that on the big lake this weekend.
  20. ROB, SAME HERE ON THE DIVERS. i HAVE CAUGHT MAYBE 80% ON RIGGERS AND 20% AT THE MOST ON DIVERS THIS YEAR. No idea why???? Wayne
  21. Only $100 in fuel? I figured he burned about $200 just running balls to the wall back to the weigh in I thought we would be pretty close to the money. Can't complain at all. It was a great day!
  22. I was on the receiving end of that water balloon barrage. We tried to retaliate but Bob's balloon launcher broke on our first attempt to fire back at you. I will attest you were getting us at about 200 feet a few times! Nice Job! Wayne
  23. We caught Kings from 200 feet - 550 feet of water. They were pretty scattered if I remember right.
  24. Yeah. That was a great time! Anybody have the results for the Big Fish Friday? I was wondering what won and what we would have needed to get in the money. We must have been top ten???? Maybe???
