i DON'T MIND A JOKE OR TWO HERE AND THERE BUT IT DOES GET ANNOYING WHEN IT IS NON-STOP. nEXT TIME JUST IGNORE IT AND CHANGE CHANNELS. 5 OR 6 IS USUALLY GOOD OUT OF OSWEGO. -
Don't know about Seneca but I hammered 10 in about 2 hours on Cayuga over 80-120 feet of water. Fished about 80 down. Unfortunately, most were small. Nothing over 3lbs but the action was good.

Damn....I have a golf tourney and a wedding on Saturday and won't be able to fish!!!!!!! Luckily my team mates are kicking butt! Nice job team!

Two weeks ago, I had one hit the diver at Ontario and cut the line to the spoon about 1" behind the knot. Didn't trip the dipsey and the line was 20# mono with a clean cut. I think I'll put some hooks on my dipseys from now on!! I've had teeth marks on my flashers too but I was pretty sure they would take a swipe at a diver as well.

I was out there on Saturday also and only caught a few. I think I may have been fishing too deep. I was marking fish 80-100 and fished that deep but only caught 3 small lakers.

I see guys out there with 16 foot row boats with 40 a year old 20 HP outboard 5 miles off shore. They are nuts. Just go when they are predicting 1 or 2 foot waves at the most and hope they are correct. They usually are not correct but when they are predicting 5- 7 footers they are usually pretty close. I was out of Oswego Sunday and they said 1-2 foot waves. Well, there were 5-6's at times with the occasional bigger rogue wave. It was barely fishable at times in my 22' because it was really hard to stand up. I never felt in danger though. I have also been out there when it has been smooth as glass as far as the eye could see. Most times you don't know what it's doing til your actually out on the water. Go out of Oswego, Rochester, or Sodus...that way if you flip over the Coast Guard is not too far away

The boat is fixed and of course the mechanic misdiagnosed it. It ended up being a bad coil on the #3 cylinder which causes the #1 and #2 not to fire. Changed coil and runs like a champ. Got out to Oswego this weekend and the bigger Coast Guard boat was towing in the Sheriff's boat....lots of boat issues for everyone I guess. Didn't catch a thing out of Oswego. I'm starting to think that Port is not for me. I have been skunked every time I have been there this year. 3 hits but no takers. Also...installed my brand new 4 stroke Yamaha 20HP kicker before going out and cannot be happier. That thing is quiet and burns almost no fuel. It is also nice having some piece of mind with that extra motor mounted on the back!

==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Went out of Sodus Wednesday morning and went out too deep early and too shallow later but managed to land a couple. First fish landed was about 8:30 AM on a Magnum Size NBK or similar lure. Got the fish to the top of the water and it was a Pig Brown weighing in at 12 1/2 pounds. He was 35 down over 65 feet of really warm 72 degree water at the ball. A little later we also managed one more 5 or 6 lb Brownie on a similar type spoon in the same water 45 down. We decided to start heading out deep around 10 AM and of course my boat stalls 2 miles off shore. I radio'd to ask for advise and received help from several guys out on the lake. When my boat died, there was not one single boat within 2 or 3 miles that I could see. Finally got ahold of the Coast Guard on channel 16 after 15 minutes only to be interrogated... They would have come out if push came to shove but they were not exactly volunteering to help. I called Krenzers Marina and they were very nice. They contacted the Sheriff's Department and the Sheriff's Department contacted me by cell phone. The deputy that was working was really nice and really helpful and acted like he was really happy to be out to help. They came out, towed me back to the launch and were very professional and courteous ... my hat's off to those guys. The Sheriff's Deputy told me if this ever happens again that I should just call 911. He said it is much easier and faster than trying to reach them on the radio. Two that we caught:

Well boys....How did we make out? Finally getting the Balls Deep back out on the water tonight if the weather holds up. Then making a trip to Lake O (Sodus or Fairhaven) in the morning. Anyone want to go? I have one spot open.

I get twists every now and again and here are the reasons why I think they happen. Most important: Letting diver out too fast. let it out by loosening the drag and turning on the clicker. Do not let it completely loose...give it some drag. Next: I find more twisting on #3 setting. Set diver at #2 or 1.5 setting. Next: Sharp turns cause twisting. No sharp turns Next: Bottoming out the diver. When it hits bottom it twists sometimes. Last but not least. I have had big fish HAMMER the bait and twist the diver. Unavoidable but it happens in my opinion. I think they sometimes actually hit the diver. I know they hit flashers sometimes.

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): Time on Water: Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: Total Boated: Species Breakdown: Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: Down Speed: Boat Depth: Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Fish with Yukonstu and Shaky Mike out of Hughes. Marked bait and fish like crazy from 90 to 110 feet but couldn't get much action. Did finally get a good hit 73 down over 110 feet on a Flounder Pounder spoon off the rigger. Fish ran out almost about 400 feet of line, jumped out of the water and battle was on. After 15 or 20 minutes this beast hit the deck. This is my biggest Salmon yet and cant wait to get back out. Rest of the morning we had 4 or 5 more riggers pop but nothing stayed on. One or two bites off the divers but noting stayed on.

Wish I could make it. The Balls Deep is back and better than ever! [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

500 feet isn't enough for the big Salmon. Also, your spool won't be full enough for the line counter on your reel to be accurate. You'll probably want to tie on about 500 feet of Braided or other backing.

Seneca is lucky because I will be in Maine on Saturday and will not be able to add to that pile of fish from Cayuga

I agree with everything and I mean everything said here. It will get better as we head toward Fall. After Labor day, you should be able to slam a dozen or so Lakers in about 3 or 4 hours by yourself in the late afternoon/evening. Most important to me: Noon to about 4 pm usually sucks Green flasher green fly Fish higher than 50 down (20 - 40) for Bows, Brown, Salmon and Below 85 down for Lakers. Small 2.5" spoons for Bows, Salmon, and Browns. Bigger for Lakers. If you don't have line counter reels, spool out your line by hand 1 foot at a time and see how many feet must go out to make your leveler make one pass across the spool. Mine is about 10 feet per pass. So, If I want to let out 200 feet, I just watch it make 20 passes and I know I am very close. Don't worry at all about your motor. I troll with my 125 OB and catch fish in the prop wash about 20 feet from the motor all of the time.

The fleas will die down soon. The grass is bad after a storm but not usually bad any other time. I use lead core but don't get too many fish on it. Run your riggers 30 -50 with slider/cheaters on them. Small spoons on cheaters larger spoons at the ball. Run divers out everywhere from 180 - 350 until you find where they are biting. If you can only run 4 rods, leave the lead core in the boat. You can run divers off 30lb braided instead of wire. You do need a line counter rod though. Okuma line counter rod/reel at Bass pro $79 or so. Each setup would be about $25 for the braided, $12 for the diver, $10 for the flasher, $6 for the fly. Don't snag bottom, that is an expensive snag!!! Flasher/Fly usually catches a lot more Lakers than spoons for me. Rainbows and Browns are better with spoons for me and LL Salmon go about 50/50.

I too am ready to pull the trigger on an autopilot. I had it narrowed down to two unit. 1. Raymarine Smartpilot sport. I found out that they are on recall and Raymarine will not be shipping the "repaired" units until September or so. If you are buying this unit, call Raymarine and make sure it has been through the recall process. 2. Garmin TR-1 Gold. I am leaning towards this but this unit only steers your kicker motor...which is o.k. with me. I have looked at the GHP 10 but cannot figure out what I need to buy as far as pump goes. If I have to spend an extra $1000 on a pump I am not buying the GHP10. My boat is a 22' trophy with Merc 125 OB. Manual hydraulic steering. Do you know if I would need to buy that $1000 pump? Wayne

Unfortunately I am out Saturday. Boat still not back from Marina. There is a slight chance I will get it back today but had to make other plans in case it isn't. I was looking forward to catching that 15 lb Brown on Saturday!

Nice Dave. I should be getting my boat back from Marina Today, Saturday or Tuesday latest. In Maine all next week. But, after August 1st, get a hold of me and you can hop a ride up to Ontario with me. I'm definitely going to take some weekdays off in August and slam some Kings. If you have any time August 4th 5th, or 6th, let me know and I'll take a day off. Wayne -
How you liking that 19 strand? I just bought two spools and am getting ready to rig it up. Wayne
