Great looking fish. You really know how to hold them out for the camera !!!!

Team Cayuga My Saturday was fun. Talked with my team mates Lil Jake and David and saw them out on the water a few times. Me and my 78 year old Father in law went 16 for 21 with the biggest being 7 lbs 1 oz. Half of our fish were over 6 lbs. We had 5 doubles!!! Tough to steer the boat, reel in the fish, and net at the same time but we managed most of the time I'm only uploading pics if (I mean when) I catch one over 10 lbs Several of the fish took my fly deep in their mouth and my boat looked like a murder scene when we were done. I now realize that if the fish are biting, speed and depth do not matter so much this time of year. I was trolling across the lake and not marking too many fish. So, I sped up to 2.75 mph, dropped a rigger to 175 feet deep and hammered a 6 lb'r. As I was reeling it in, I slowed the boat to 1.5 to make it easier to reel and about 2 minutes later another one bit at 55' down. I have had most of my bites at 2 mph this year using my Sub Troll 900. 1.5 mph has caught very few. I seem to like 1.75 to 2 mph as a down speed for Lakers so far this year. Wayne

You got mine...right Mark? Wayne

Nice Bass. Just about any Crank Baits seem to work up there. Rattle traps seem to do good for me also. Be careful with those Bass. Season does not open until 3rd Saturday in June....although you can catch and release. I also do really good with a red/white/gold Mepps #4 or #5 spinner. Were the others Pickerel or Pike? I've caught hundreds of Pickerel up there but only one Pike ever in Cayuga. P.S. I also launch out of the State Park a lot.

Keuka Laker Tips and Tricks? - PICS ADDED
stoutner replied to Smittie125's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Wow, looks like you had a blast and the tips and tricks might have helped! -
Mark and Dave. It was good talking to you guys. David, I'll look for you on the pontoon next time I'm out. I fished Ontario/Oswego Sunday and the water was crystal clear and mirror flat. 8 hours on the water and only 3 bites and no fish landed. Next time I trailer up there and the lake is like that I'm turning around and going home. I'll be fishing Ontario again this weekend in the LOC then I'll be back out at Cayuga for the rest of the Summer...other than LOC tourneys. Mark, You could just weight your gripper with that same scale and subtract the difference. Mark, That's a beauty in that pic....the fish isn't too bad either

Man, A 27lb Laker was posted early this morning. That is a beast. I think it's odd that no-one has posted a Rainbow/Steelhead yet today. Maybe someone (hopefully me) will post one from the East end of the lake by the end of this week! Leaderboard is here: http://www.loc.org/derby/leaderboard/currentadult.asp

Jason, That's not a bad idea but why dont we just make it five different weeks throughout the spring, summer and fall? Starting on Saturdays and ending by Friday night? That way, If you want to hit it hard all week...go for it! Maybe next year?

Wow, I can't believe you can't get $3300 for that boat. Kind of scares me because I have a 1990 Penn Yan Gamefish 180 18' that I am hoping to get $2500 for. It won't be coming with anything except a fishfinder and a few cheaper rod holders.

Canandaigua 04/25 South End - PIC ADDED
stoutner replied to fireplug's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
If Canandaigua Lake is anything like Cayuga or Seneca, you need to go deep to find the fish. Somewhere between 125 and 200 feet you should be able to mark some fish. -
I saw the posting on LOU about Cortland lead core and placed an order. While I was at it, I remembered that I broke the top half of my Cortland rod in half last year because I stepped on it with my Korkers! I called and asked if they would sell me replacement top half because it was my fault that I stepped on it and broke it. I was told that it would be $20 for shipping and handling and no charge for the rod. Long story short, they sent me the rod and lead core that I ordered in two days and I am extremely happy and impressed with them! That says a lot about them and their customer service. They are a class act in my opinion and I will recommend their products to all of my friends.

Seems like all the big fish have swam up through the canal and into Cayuga! Team Cayuga will post a 10+ pounder for sure this Saturday!

Hey Mark, I will be out on the North end this Saturday. I am probably fishing Ontario on Sunday because I did sign up for the LOC. I will try to get you on the Radio on Saturday. I was calling out on the radio on Saturday and no-one would answer. Maybe you were too far South. I stayed way up about 2 - 3 miles North of Deans cove. I usually launch at the Cayuga State Park but sometimes launch at Deans. You catch any big ones? I am surprised by the sizes I have been catching so far this year. Some of these fish are really growing up! I've probably boated maybe 15 or 20 fish between my last two trips but 4 of them have been 8 lbs or larger. How the heck do you get them to come back to life when they get that huge air pocket and can't seem to be saved. The one we kept last week just would not revive. I have had no luck at all with Browns, Rainbows, or Landlocks yet. Any suggestions for those?

LOU Twitter
stoutner replied to stoutner's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Thanks for putting some of the home port info under the "profile" for twitter. That is sweet. I have the new Droid with Tweetcaster loaded on it. It is a sweeeeeet phone. A couple of the Captains that I am following are also following me. If anyone wants to follow my "amateur" fishing, please feel free. My user name on twitter is : stoutner I dabble on Lake Ontario and mostly fish Cayuga and Seneca. Wayne P.S. Thanks for putting this together. It is really cool. I hope more followers participate. -
I may need a fishing partner for the first day of our league. Any Cayuga guys want to team up?

stoutner replied to stoutner's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Dave, You'll have to just drive up and come out on my boat. I am probably fishing it on Sunday if you are interested...and the following Saturday or Sunday too. Wayne -
Took my father in law and a guy from work out on the North End of Cayuga Saturday. Went 7 for 8 and two of them were pretty beastly. One was 10 1/2 pounder and the other an 8 pounder. We also had another beast on that broke off my 30 lb braided line. Hot action off the green spin doc and green fly. Fish are all out deep around 140 - 175 feet deep fishing 70 -125 down. This 10.5 lb'r tried to pull the rod out of my father in law's hands !!! 8 lb'r 6 lb'r

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: Wayne - Balls Deep ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): Friday April 23rd Time on Water: 8am - 2 pm Weather/Temp: 40-50 Wind Speed/Direction: Out of West and Northwest Waves: 0 -2 Surface Temp: High 40's Location: Oswego to Nuke Plant LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 4 Total Boated: 1 Species Breakdown: Smallmouth Bass lol! Hot Lure: Rapala jointed Black and Silver and Blue and Silver Trolling Speed: 2 - 2.5 Down Speed: 2 - 2.5 Boat Depth: 10-40 Lure Depth: 3 - 15 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Tough day for me. We had 4 bites and landed only one fish...It was a freaking Smallmouth caught on a NK Green/Black/Silver spoon. Lake Ontario is very frustrating to me because every time I fish it, the bite seems to be off. I could have stayed in the Fingerlakes and fought fish all day. Didn't see too many nets out and only heard of a few catches on the radio. Anyone else do good out there? Wayne

I really do love following some of you guys on your twitter reports. Is there any chance you can include what Port you are fishing out of on some of those reports? Something like..."hammering the Browns in Oswego" ...of Fairhaven or wherever.
-
What speed would you trust...the GPS or the Sub Troll? Also, I launched out of Sampson...about half way down the lake East and West shore. I think the water is warmer at the South end.

Thanks Dave. Lovin the new boat. Water temp was never above 40 degrees. I was seeing as low as 37.8 up to 39.4. That was at the surface and down 100 feet or so. Dave....I did end up buying that Sub Troll and it works really sweet. I was seeing up to a .5 mph difference at times between my GPS and my down probe.
