  1. Does anyone know what the maximum level reached in 2019 and when for the east end of the lake? The town of Napanee On. on the Bay of Quinte is saying this years levels could be 20 inches higher. Not sure how they could make that determination this early. https://www.greaternapanee.com/Modules/News/index.aspx?newsId=91354fd4-884a-47cc-8c95-dae931e8fe62&feedId=9a5bbb6b-9d6d-46c3-9c93-54707873254b,eda0acf6-50ec-4981-83a3-bf568ad62119# If this is even close to coming to pass there is little point to me paying for a slip at the marina. Last year i was parking the truck in 6 inches of water going into July.
  2. No Probe No Problem fish the marks and judge speed with your cables. I attended a presentation about the feeding of the transmitter implanted Kings and it seems they do a lot of feeding at the 60 foot level even when out of temperature. I usually have a rigger at 60 feet and it is often the most active.
  3. For spoons I like a ball bearing swivel between line and leader and a plain duolock snap for connecting the spoon although I do admit to occasionally using a snapswivel. My head always goes back to an article I read 40 years ago by Lou Eppinger ( manufacturer of Daredevil )who said spoons are not designed to spin and to cut the swivel off the front of his lures. He said when they remove the swivel sales suffer but they work as they were supposed to with out.
  4. Thanks for posting that....don't know if the meat helps but I don't suppose it can hurt
  5. Thanks besides calling it a J plug he did call it a Scarface. Anyone on here use them with success
  6. Watched a You Tube video guy on Lake Michigan was using A J Plug with a cavity in the bottom he filled with herring scraps. He called it a Meat J Plug my googling came up dry I need new toys.
  7. The clown in Milwaukee who shot at the kids that threw snowballs at ( unsure if it was him or his car ) shouldn't be carrying a gun
  8. What size rubber bands and how do the boards run with that much weight between the board and the rod tip. I imagine it's better with big boards than inlines.
  9. agreed
  10. So I guess I won't get in a hurry to pay for next years slip at the marina till I see if I can park the truck on dry land and not have to wear waders or take a canoe to get to my dock. Last year even some of the floating docks were pulled underwater by their chains.
  11. Beautiful boat what it needs is it's first scratch then you can fish it hard like it needs to be fished without concern Whats the overall length I'm guessing that bracket makes it fish bigger than 18.5 feet
  12. Mother Nature is always in charge and can change her mind whenever she wants
  13. Two things that affect mono are sunlight and heat. If your rods are stored in a cool dry place between trips you could get a few years. If your rods sit in rocket launchers all summer at the marina you may not get a season. Mono affected by sunlight or heat will loose it's shine and in extreem cases become chalky. If I was in a big money tournament ( which I'm not ) I might respool every day. Now the question becomes how often do you change the mono backer on your cores. I guess it comes down to how things are stored. If my rods are stored in my basement what is gained from respooling from the same bulk spool as is on the reel if it isn't otherwise damaged.. Buy your line from somewhere that sells lots and dosen't have sunlight streaming through the window on it. Anyone use braid on a rigger rod?
  14. Most people seem only concerned about the spot they are standing on. It's a big waterway affecting millions. No matter what's done your going to piss off somebody.
  15. I've had people tell me that the ones from 20 or so years ago are better than today's I think it may have something to do with the guides or wraps. Any thoughts? I have one of the older ones that I quite like it came with a reel I wanted at a swap long before I considered salmon fishing. I'm glad I kept it and have been watching for a mate for a couple of years
  16. I'm not a fan of targeting muskies below 35 feet so I have no need to have my riggers on the boat when muskie fishing. Years ago I tried with a downrigger and had a muskie leave 2 teeth in the rubber coating of an orange cannonball. It was at this point I decided that I didn't want anything in the water that didn't have hooks.to a muskie if it moves it's food so don't get hung up on fancy paint jobs . After over 30 years of muskie fishing I started fishing the Larry 8 or so years ago and everyone was running really long leads. My first St Lowrance fish was on a Hose Fatty 88 feet back . From there i kept shortening my leads till my most productive rod has been 45 lb single strand monel 35 feet back. Muskies are curious and I don't believe they have any fear of your boat. I don't notice the guys coming out of Clayton using riggers as much as they did years ago.
  17. I have to confess telling an unintentional lie but my wife informs me I'm 76 not the 74 I stated. I hope this doesn't bring bad karma in 2020 at least it was done before midnight and not in the new year. I guess feeling younger than your actual age is a good thing.. Again Happy New Year
  18. I do have a lot to be thankful for or is that the wrong holiday? At 74 i don't think i will even try to see midnight and the arrival of the new year. I hate winter and may just hibernate until Groundhog Day and if i don't see my shadow go back for another 6 weeks. Happy New year folks and lets hope for an early spring and usable launches and marinas by mid march
  19. Question for those using 7' rods what action are your rods and any problems created with lack of clearance or spacing from the rigger. I always figured that was why most dipsey rods were around 10'
  20. So the water in my slip now is about 18 to 24 inches below where I like it at the beginning of Sept maybe they should be holding back water now in case it doesn't snow or rain. God I'm glad I don't have to try and outguess Mother Nature a year out.
  21. So I take it that6 the slide diver is on the mono what is the purpose of the braid will the mono not attach to the wire with an Albright knot? i do have 3 slidedivers some rings and the heavy weight kit. I will be playing with the slide divers on braid in April and May before the fleas ( mostly lakers ) but for kings I want to use the wire.
  22. Now you have me thinking ( and that tends to get dangerous ) but the basement also contains two 7.5 foot Okuma Striper rods designed to handle wire but i thought they would be a bit two stiff and also concerned about clearance with my riggers which I run to the sides back on about a 45 deg angle. I have a couple of Convector 30's with 80 PP on muskie rods that I can borrow and try during early lake trout and decide before installing twilly's for wire.
  23. The Diawa rods in the basement I was considering are the Wilderness and they have a softer action than the Okuma Leadcore but I was thinking the guides on the copper might be better with wire.
  24. I have a couple of slide divers which I have run on braid for early lakers but not a fan of braid once the fleas start. I believe you need a long braid lead to run a slide diver with wire. I hate fleas almost as much as stable flies.
