  1. Ah ok that is good info to know. I have a question for you though, when jigging for the lakers what does your screen look like? Do you jig to isolated marks or are you looking for four to five grouped up?
  2. So my dad and I drove from Rochester to jig for smallies and lakers which we heard are pretty abundant in the lake. Now I have researched for some time on how to jig lakers and the DEC report said that the jigging was good in 110 FOW. However the screen was desolate out that deep and no marks were present, so we motored into the shallower water around 30 FOW and despite seeing great humps and ridges with marks on them we could not get the fish to take. We threw tubes, worms, cranks, you name it but we came up empty. We moved back deep and marked fish in seventy feet of water. We got one hit and then nothing. Discouraging day to say the least as I am a pretty competent fisherman and I totally whiffed. Any insights into why we did so poorly? Also we were in the south end. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  3. Hey guys if anyone of you is thinking of getting rid of a leadcore rig please let me know! PM or comment on this thread to let me know so I can take it off your hands!
  4. Bloodshot your the man! Thats exactly what I needed to hear
  5. Hey guys I was just wondering if any of you know about the walleye in the reservoir above the Waterport dam on the oak. Now I know they are in there cause I have seen them stacked up on the a few key drop offs and points around the lake but I want to know if there are some concrete facts around targeting these fish regularly. Everyone seems to be super opposed to talking about the walleye in that body of water and all I could get out of a resident is that they were there but he would not say anything else. Gonna explore the lake a little bit but I was just wondering if you guys had any helpful info about the walleye there.

    First Carp!

The slider rig is exactly what we are doing! I actually got a few more fish today for my younger brothers and what I ended up doing was splitting a green twig halfway open and pinching it on the line. When the fish pickup the stick pops on the first guide and the fish just keep taking line. Worked pretty dang well but I like the bobber idea!

    First Carp!

Hey guys I took my little bro down the the erie canal for some newbie carp fishing, because I wanted him to tangle with a nice fish rather than a tiny sunny. So armed with my own vanilla soaked corn we chummed up a nice shoreline section, cast our corn and waited. Lo and behold we got a few nice rips but the carp would drop the bait and we were getting frustrated. I assumed the hooks were too apparent to the sensitive mouths so I loaded each hook up with all the corn it could hold and it did the trick. My little bros line fired and the fight was on! After some coaching and reminding him to fight like the river monsters guy, my little bro landed this beauty carp in 15 min on 8lb test! The smile says it all
  8. The way I figure it the walleye from the canal migrate in with the filling of the canal from erie and other non canal sources. My gut feeling says these fish are clean and good to eat but I really dont know nor have I eaten any fish from the canal.
  9. Bosco- Awesome info, and posts like that make this sight very valuable. Everyone else thanks for the information and I should be posting more wally pics soon!
  10. Hahaha ha I know what you mean. But its cool as I do not catch them very often, but ya I really want to jig for them now because I would rather not drag in a wet bag (walleye) going trolling speed. Bosco if you have any tips for jigging em up or anything else let me know!
  11. Yah we were trolling the deep divers and that is what this guy hit. but I want the fight while slowly floating and not trolling!
  12. Ya thats right first time out and I connect with the target species!! We nailed one other smallmouth and had alot of hits but ended with one wally and one smallmouth. I am pretty stoked as it was a reasonable fish and now I just need to fine tune to get a bunch more. Also alot of nice arcs on the graph in the canal and I know alot of those are carp and sheepies, but I gotta believe that some of those are walleye as well. Man this gets me excited and now I wonder if I trolled against the current, if it would it be productive to float and jig live bait on the way back down? I am stoked! Enjoy the pic!
  13. Wow awesome info! night or daytime?
  14. So I hear that some wallys live in the canal and my buddy has caught an enormous walleye out of the canal, are these flukes or is there really enough in there to go after? Would love to hear some info on this as I live two seconds away from the Brockport-Spencerport section and I would not mind targeting some walleye on my boat in the canal in my spare time! Oh and Catch and Release of course!
  15. yah could have been alot worse!
