  1. Good advice and rod recommendation. I don't think you can go wrong with it.
  2. And the things he sells are always in nice condition so don't have any reservations
  3. It is a familiar site on the Fingers too Stan; especially during derbies
  4. Good clear thorough video. Brian.
  5. I know this doesn't affect lake O and the Fingers but for those who fish the Hudson and other places.... https://www.newyorkupstate.com/outdoors/2020/02/stripped-bass-population-threatened-nys-to-impose-new-size-restrictions-for-keepers.html
  6. Jimski you may be in danger of being replaced by a robot
  7. In the pic it looks as though the motor bracket was originally located on the port side of the boat and there is plenty of room there. That is where I would be putting it.
  8. that is about as good as I've seen
  9. Yeah boats can be high maintenance but nothing compared to the ladies
  10. Rookie Fisherman is right on target and servicing should be a consideration. Many if not most marinas will service Mercs but not Suzukis or even Tohatsu's so having a servicing option nearby can be a good idea. Much of the time though these kickers are pretty smooth going for the most part and the winterizing and maintenance pretty simple.
  11. They used to be real popular but many folks now use inline boards or big boards these days, but outriggers have their strengths too and I still use them occasionally Thye can be used in place of boards or added to them (if care is used in setting up and running them in combination. I sometimes run inline boards outside the outriggers but I usually put deep digging lures on the outriggers and shorter leads if in combination with stuff run near the surface on the inlines so that they generally can run to the side and away from the deeper lures with a fish on. I usually don't run them that way on Lake O though because of the kings. One advantage of outriggers over boards can be during derbies and I have bright tape on mine so folks can see them out for a great distance and they tend to stay away where with the boards they often ignore them or don't see them. You can also run multiple lines right from the outriggers instead of multiple boards. Anyway, the stuff all has its place in the arsenal and having both options can be an advantage. If the outriggers are set up right you can usually run them in rougher water than the inlines too and the same can be said of big boards.
  12. Sometimes we lose sight of what is really important. Our two countries have stood side by side when it really counted (e.g WW2 etc.) and as we have ventured forth into the future without the direct threats that bonded us folks born well after that time may not fully appreciate the true nature or depth of our relationship. The Canadians,, Brits and Aussies have always been there for us and we for them. My dad flew in B-24 bombers over Germany, Austria, Italy, North Africa for 25 missions and reading his diary it became obvious that many of the citizens of these countries gave their very lives for us and our way of life. We should never lose sight of that fact no matter what the current issue. On another note there is another possible option to actually shooting an intruder and perhaps as disabling is the use of a TAC light and Laser activated and shined directly into the eyes of an intruder prior to potentially pulling the trigger may suffice to protect you and deal with the civil concerns afterward (e.g. being sued for blinding the intruder perhaps).
  13. Although Tohatsu does make the small motors they are not exactly the same specs and construction for each motor.
  14. Rob's point shouldn't be missed here. Hook quality in terms of sharpness and hardness is highly important to success especially when fishing in king water. Back in the mid seventies I tried using some Sutton spoons out on Lake O and not only did the trebles get crunched up but the very spoons themselves did as well. Those hooks may be OK for the Fingers but something harder is needed on Lake O. I use triple X Mustad single stainless salmon hooks on all my spoons and hardened trebles on all my homemade flies; some red some silver and no noticeable difference by color I always have a file handy on the boat and frequently examine hooks for sharpness. I leave the trebles on sticks alone.
  15. Just a couple of considerations to throw in the mix: The trim and tilt etc. is a nice option but adds weight to the motor too so your bracket needs to be able to support it too.if you use one. Many of the two stroke motor brackets don't recommend anywhere near the HP rating for 4 stroke use and the weight of many 4 strokes exceed the weight limits of the brackets. Although the longer shaft motors give a better propulsion in the rough water and waves you have to make sure that they don't drag in the water (e.g. the prop) when going at high speed when underway so positioning is critical (so there is clearance when motor is fully up) and in some cases the longer shaft not desirable on some boats. The weight of some basic 15 HP motors is fairly close to that of the 9.9's (depending on what options they have) so sometimes it is a decision between whether you want the extra propulsion vs. the fancy option features.
  16. The most I have ever seen is in Jackson Hole Wyoming in the center of town on a few arches in the park with thousands of them.....unbelievable!
  17. Good question. Yes I do but I retrieve the spoons with a dinner fork because I do multiple spoons at once and to avoid getting stuck . You do have to fish around a bit but not a real problem.I wipe any fine dust off of them with a soft cloth after retrieval.
  18. Just an afterthought but I probably shouldn't have divulged that to the two Mikes until AFTER the Seneca Derby
  19. For quite a long time now I have used my cartridge casing tumbler (for cleaning ammunition cartridge casings for reloading) to refurbish the shine on my spoons including Sutton's that weren't badly water spotted in the first place. It is a lot easier than using silver polish etc. The cleaning material is ground up walnut shell material to which a small amount of polishing solution is added. The vibration from the unit when turned on and left for a couple hours does all the work. My tumbler is made by Dillon. Anyway just an idea to share for anyone interested who may be into hunting or reloading etc. that might be applicable.
  20. Thanks for sharing that solution. I don't think any of us actually thought of that as we were focused on the winch and strap stretch which is the more common problem. Another example of Hank the superhero coming to the rescue

  22. Last I heard Cayuga Lake itself was very very low water level along the shorelines
  23. One of the things to think about is that the US has a population 10 times the size of that in Canada so just statistically it is more likely without anything to do with politics
