  1. Nor was the crack about "Glad to be a Canadian"....inferring that it isn't great being an American. The relationship between our two countries is a strong one and valued but nationalism is strong in both as it should be but needs to be tempered by mutual respect.
  2. WTG - nice job with the fish and excellent on the editing - not having to watch each fish being reeled in for 15 minutes was great
  3. OR Blood Run 30 lb Sea Flee mono either are good choices. The Sea Flee does have more stretch to it though. I switched to it when it first came out and have been very happy with it on about a dozen rods.
  4. I have the 9.8 electric start Tohatsu on my 18 ft Whaler and probably could have gotten by with the 8 but wouldn't want less than that. The 4 stroke makes a big difference from 2 stroke of same HP as it seems to have more torque and does much better holding position into the wind etc.The 8 and 9.8 are good on fuel consumption as well.Very quiet and very little vibration on mine. I'm thinking Mike's had something wrong right from the factory.
  5. What would have been a problem for you had you shot the person is that you are OUTSIDE your home. Second, even if in your own home you are required to retreat if at all possible. Two major things of concern in any use of a firearm in this wacky state of ours are criminal and CIVIL prosecution. There a whole bunch of lawyers out there that just love this stuff and your assets can be up for grabs. Another thing of concern is the existence of perhaps incomplete or inappropriate training of some law enforcement personnel when they respond to lethal force situations where "defending" folks may be shot when they are merely holding a firearm before things are properly sorted out. In the military we had VERY clear-cut definitions and procedures for the use of lethal force (and only as a last resort), but not so in some areas of the country or some law enforcement agencies or perhaps more commonly "personal interpretations" made in the heat of the moment. Despite all the hype in TV shows shooting scenarios are horrible in real life and the images you are left with stay with you for life. Having said all that I would rather be explaining my legal actions to a judge or jury of my peers than having them standing over me at the cemetary.
  6. Beautiful boat and its deck has probably seen as many fish as any on the Finger Lakes so Stan as certainly gotten some use out of it
  7. The ones in Seneca and the canal system came up through there from elsewhere as invasives but the ones in lakes like Conesus must have been as bait. Too bad as they out compete the native species and are very hardy. The one pictured became eagle food.
  8. x3 It is a bit of money but high quality and they stand behind their product. Most guys on here would part with their right arm before parting with theirs
  9. Nothin like the two Mikes together either
  10. I think my son has the same jigs on his ice fishing stuff from last year (despite the thousand others he has in there).....and it is still working
  11. Good point Brian. My wife could validate that I suppose
  12. Not a major problem it is usually only the folks that man the tables...and they Are easy to controi....just flash some green in front of them
  13. Very cool! Isn't that what life should really be all about?
  14. It can be worth stuffing shipping peanuts or cut up pieces of pool noodles in the net handle so it floats
  15. We fished Conesus yesterday and it was slow bunch oif gills no eyes BUT caught the biggest Rudd I have ever seen on a jig with waxworm
  16. Guess I had other less pure thoughts on my mind Hank
  17. Haven't watched racing since Danica left
  18. Nice work Hachimo . We just got off the ice a couple hours ago but didn't have anywhere near the results you had
  19. Usually I get my boat out of the barn in April but this year it may March and keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't get dumped on with this weird weather.
  20. This is my basic approach too. Most of the time I run sliders instead though.
  21. They are also major polluters even more than the geese. They have ruined some freshwater ponds on Cape Cod because of it and I'm sure they are contributors around here too.
  22. Mark - You might be able to find some at the Watkins show if you are going. If memory serves me correctly we used .018- 024 thousandths single strand soft copper and when I couldn't find it elsewhere in tackle shops I bought it at electric supply places (not automotive). Might be worth checking out.
  23. Holy cow! Thanks guys I wasn't expecting that Most of us try to do our part and it is a great bunch of people on here. I've never been a real "groupie" or "joiner" but this website is "special".
  24. I basically agree with your point about not having to share everything and I also can relate to your comment about not "spoon feeding' people and it is something that some folks try to be the recipient of without doing any homework or searching themselves or even fully reading things posted and it can be annoying. I agree with your comment about the advantages of taking a charter and have mentioned it in many posts along the way. I guess some youtube videos may have the primary purpose to "entertain" rather than to inform too. I didn't even see the video you were referring to earlier so that wasn't my focus
  25. I guess what I was having a problem with was this part of what you wrote: "Not everyone is on these forums to help others out or to accelerate others learning curves. I fully understand not divulging every aspect of what you do out there, or how and what you used to do it such as particular set-ups or fishing spots or as that relates to competitive fishing, but for most forums the major purpose is to SHARE and inform for the common good. This forum is usually a very good example of that premise. Many of the very experienced and knowledgeable charter people and veteran sportsfisher persons gladly share and contribute ideas and information with the purpose of furthering understanding and enjoyment of the sport; not necessarily to make money off it or to brag about what they are doing (as some youtube videos seem to do). This website is a home to many levels of skill and experience and different types of participants from "lurkers" to the seasoned charter captains.who offer great information for novices and experienced folks alike. I have a great deal of respect for those people as it relates to their making money too but they SHARE nonetheless for the benefit of all. It is a valuable learning tool. During much of my earlier fishing life much of what is viewed on here these days was treated as "Top Secret" among the old timers and even some of my fishing acquaintances. Thankfully, much of that era has passed where it took years to figure out some of the stuff that is freely given here. Many of us had to learn the stuff through old school trial and error and it took vast amounts of time. Time is a precious commodity and being able to willingly shorten the "learning curve" for other people is a valuable gift and a service to others. Just my own way of looking at it but it may be worthy of some thought
