  1. Although they are very cute be aware they often carry ticks which can locate in the weeds or grass and if your kids play near there or go barefoot etc. there could be a problem......my next door neighbor recently had to put their dog down because of severe Lyme disease contracted from their yard out back.
  2. Mustad also make braided fishing line that isn't bad and relatively inexpensive (comes in 200 yd. spool vs. 150 yd for Power Pro)
  3. Too bad too because they totally take over Dean's Cove
  4. Gotcha. Yeah the crud is hard to overcome. Fran B. is a great guy (and Deb nice lady too) by the way known him for over 40 years. He knows as much as anyone on the planet about Merc motors and probably has about every part someplace in his shop
  5. Not sure why the suction cup didn't take. May be wax on the exterior? . You do have to wet the inside part of the suction cup and sometimes have to kind of slide it up or down ti create suction. A long time ago when I used the method I used two suction cups by the way.and it created enough suction that it took a bit of pulling to get it back off Having transducers permanently mounted is the way to go anyway. Good luck out there
  6. That is my take on it too Mike even after more than 50 years of boating.
  7. It is more critical regarding the khz difference than the spacing apart. The one that is now to the outermost of the hull will probably have problems marking when on plane. As long as the transducers have frequency separation there shouldn't be a problem even if they are side by side. I use the same bracket screw (the transducers are side by side) for my Fishhawk (70khz) and Lowrance set to 200 khz without problem. When the transducer is set way to the outside they experience turbulence more readily. You shouldn't have any trouble as long as one unit is run on 200 khz and the other is either 50 or 83 just don't run both at 200 khz.and if it were me I'd move the outside one next to the other closer to the inside to mark better.
  8. Thats the spirit ....Hope to see ya there and best of luck.
  9. The issue of weigh-in location is a common one. For many of us that live to the west of Cayuga (e.g. Canandaigua) the weigh -in at Myers is VERY inconvenient since the nearest decent launch is Dean's Cove. For smaller derbies or tournaments concessions become necessary because having multiple weigh-in stations is both a little more complicated than may meet the eye (e.g having certified scales in some cases, having the personnel to man them etc.). I guess what it boils down to is that if we want to support a cause badly enough we do whatever is necessary to do it even if it means driving a ways and making the most of the day. I know we are driving the 40 miles or so to fish it ( meaning that getting up early) and hope that others will view it similarly and fish it too. Sometimes there are good reasons for being 'inconvenienced" and we need to go with the flow.
  10. https://chinookdiver.com/depth-chart Might want to read the info on the website and make a determination specific to where you'll be fishing and what your target species may be.
  11. Aw thanks Sammy Hey nice boat you have there I was next to you coming in the channel at Sodus last Friday. I didn't even have to put on glasses to read the name
  12. Looks pretty good Rick. Thanks for the "heads up"
  13. Good advice given and applies to both lakes. The spoons you mentioned and ones like them will be fine too.Sometimes the silvers want them back 30-60 feet or so and a fairly fast troll 2.5-3.0 The lakers on Cayuga will hit just about anything spoon or fly if in the mood to actively feed. I think your normal Lake Champlain tactics will produce and be fine. Cayuga may be the more successfully fished lake at this point in time as the trout and salmon predators are down in Seneca and the bait population is high so probabilities connected with catching decline usually in that situation. Good luck.
  14. X2 Using 40 or 50 lb Big Game (hard surface coating,,resists abrasion) mono instead of Fluoro for years no break offs. Each of these materials has its uses sometimes you don't want or need stretch or else may need or desire "stealth" (supposedly less visible than mono underwater) up high or in really clear water. Each excels in different applications, i also tie my own flies with 50 lb. Big game again no break-offs and they run deep so no need for stealth and you want a slight bit of stretch because of the wire main line..
  15. Wondering if it is some smell from the plastic? (some plastics use urea in them) or maybe the sound when it takes a pic? Interesting situation....that they select only those....
  16. Not sure of your exact boat setup and limitations etc. but you may be able to have better luck with 10 lb balls if you can get rid of the stand pipes on the mounts and mount the downriggers closer to the surface of the transom or gunwale with support underneathas the higher you go the more the torque is exerted and not distributed putting pressure on those surfaces.
  17. Pretty bumpy out there today Mike speed control a big problem. One real nice one on for a bit then spit the hook, and a few small kings and that was it quit about noon. Fish marks 40-60 ft above whatever. Ones that hit only riggers no fly action. Riggers set to 55 ft temp 50-52 there
  18. Kinda bumpy out there today. Fished from 80 ft to 210. One good king took a few runs after hitting a carbon 14 off the rigger set at 55 ft.over 139 but he spit the hook after a few minutes. My buddy Dave did the reeling on them We picked up small kings here and there but nothing to write home about marked some clumps of bait from 40-60 here and there and a few fish up there too but most weren't interested. No action on wire/fly rigs.
  19. Fleas were moderate today Mike and fairly easy to get off.
  20. I fished at Sodus Point today from the public launch. When we returned from fishing and I was straightening things on my boat and trailer in the parking lot a fella approached my buddy and i and introduced himself as Dave LeRoy a member of the Sodus Point Town Board. He asked me what I thought about the new dock.at the launch. I told him I thought it was a massive and positive improvement and that i had heard many of my friends say the same that had recently used it.. He then queried me about any suggestions I might have about it. I suggested that we go down to the dock so I could better show him what suggestions might greatly improve use for fishermen and recreational boaters alike. We went to the dock and I indicated that the front of the dock (furthest east. out in the water where you come in from the bay) really needs some protective vinyl to cover the corner and front edge and also a strip of it about at least half way along the length of the dock from there toward the launch pad. This would both protect the dock and peoples boats from damage both from docking when coming in and from rubbing while tied up. I then mentioned the deteriorated condition of the pavement sections leading down to the water and especially the pot holes, and lack of pavement near the dock itself which can lead to trailer tires falling into it and possibly damaging them or axles etc.. The gap between the pavement and the further section which is currently under water was pointed out as well. I mentioned that people invest a lot of money in their boats and equipment and that the corner of the dock situated as it is could punch a hole in or otherwise scratch or damage the bow or hull of a boat. Dave took pics of the items mentioned and indicated that he will report them to the board for further review/possible action. He did not promise anything but I was very impressed that he and the town board were open to suggestions from the folks actually using the facility and I am hopeful at least that they will implement the suggestions as they are very straight forward and not terribly expensive things that could greatly improve the launch and dock for the public. I left feeling very grateful for having the opportunity for giving feedback and hope the board will act to help out the public in this way and maybe even prevent potential liability situations from occurring relating to the damaging of boats and trailers. I noted that many LOU members use the launch and hundreds or thousands of fishermen may see this on LOU. A big thank you to Dave and the board for their consideration If I have missed anything here Dave provided his email address but unfortunately it doesn't work as given. Les
  21. I think you are both right. It is not a single factor issue (many things involved)
  22. Nice going Matt. Looks like the learning curve just got shorter
  23. Heading there tomorrow so I'll try to give a report on things.
