After years of use with about all of them I settled on the 124 mm Deeper Divers as my main "go to" for late Spring/Summer, and Fall use. They approximate 2 to 1 ratio for letting out wire and in some cases (slow speeds) about 1 1/2 to 1 ratio. I have had them bang bottom in 155 ft of water in the past

My son and i were on the water at 5:30AM. NW wind and 3 ft rollers was supposed to be SW until later in Am according to report. We started in 100 ft and worked to the west against the waves picked up first fish in 137 ft of water on rigger with Carbon #14 Magnum spoon 85 ft on rigger (probably running about 77 ft and set back 35 ft. Second salmon came on same rigger same setup about an hour later in 149 ft. One fish about 10 lbs the other pushing 20. Note the large lamprey still attached about 2 ft long. Poor fella left this Earth without his head We had one more massive hit on wire setup out 185 over 138 ft with white home made white fly behind Wonderbread glow flasher and he made huge runs and finally spit the fly way off in the distance.Speed about 2.5-2.7 for each fish. We knocked off at noon as the heat was really set in. Fleas were there but very moderate. Also checked out area out to about 190 or so nothing there....a lot of debris floating around out there (sticks, branches 2x4's, plastic bags, etc.).

Unless just fishing very early in the AM until about 9:30 or 10 am fish the south end. This is the height of the recreational boating season and the north end launch can be a real zoo even on weekdays. There is usually less boat traffic at the south end. Small Sutton spoons (e.g. #5, #8 etc.) work well with the rainbows if you have them. Number 35's were working well on the lakers a short time ago. The rainbows also like small #7 and 9 Rapalas and Bomber Long A's especially in the gold/orange belly version. The area out toward the middle near Vine valley and the Bristol Harbor condos usually has both rainbows and lakers and the occasional brown, Speed:2.4-3.2 with frequent turns.

Canandaigua is way too busy with recreational boating right now making it difficult if not impossible to fish productively after 9 or 10 AM. Jigging for lakers is the best way to go on Keuka and as mentioned the Branchport or Hammondsport sections are a little less crowded with the recreational boaters. It is mainly a matter of locating fish in deeper water (e.g. 80 ft or deeper as smallies suspend out there up to about that deep this time of the season) that look like lakers and either drift over them or anchor up just outside them at the edge and vertical jig with 1-2 oz. jigs with shad imitations or white tubes and other related things like Kastmasters. I think a lot of the specific techniques have been previously mentioned on here so you may want to search for that info.

Just a suggestion: Although the retail marketed bimini's may work the best solution is to have one custom made for your particular situation and boat by a competent canvas person; that way you have input into the process itself. Many of the manufactured bimini's have various shortcomings which can be avoided if you have a thorough knowledge of your boat and just what you are looking for. If you are anywhere Sodus Point. Contact John Mann of Sodus Bay Canvas. He is the best around and has seen and dealt with every canvas situation imaginable. Phone: 315-871-6400

My son and I got out on the water about 6:30 AM and it took another nearly half hour at the 5 mph speed limit from the launch to the lake via the bay. We headed out to 100 ft to start as the water was very mixed temps all over the place. In one spot it would be 74 degrees to 80 ft and then another we would find 50 degree water at 70 ft over 100-205 ft. We had a small salmon right off the bat in 125 ft on green home made fly behind mountain dew flasher out 175 on wire with deeper diver set at 2 and then the wind and rain came up strong out of the west and stayed with us the entire time until we quit at 11:30. The weather report earlier said 4 mph SW at that time of the morning.....what else is new? About a half hour before we quit a raging king hit the wire rig and took line like there was no tomorrow. He fought courageously right up til to the very end and weighed in at 21 lbs and change. He slammed a combo green and white home made fly behind a green flasher on deeper diver set to 1 1/2 and out 165 in 126 ft of water. Those were the only two bites despite having out several spoons of various colors and sizes at a time. No action on the two cheated riggers or the 10 color leadcore run down the chute.....an all flasher fly limited bite and no action on a couple different Spin Docs. We returned home soaked right through but it was good just being out there. Mark did all the reeling today.Incredibly strong current activity. Very light boat traffic.

Basically "using the right tool for the job". For jigging and still fishing CHIRP can help define things better, standard 50/200 or 83/200 transducers excel in trolling but the match to the unit is critical as is fine tuning things for the particular unit. Not all standard transducers are of the same quality either. The Airmars have a long history of solid performance.

Flies, the biting kind!!!

I know folks like wearing their shorts and sandals etc. out there but wearing long nylon (breathable) pants and socks and sneakers seems to be the best protection I've found. When doing so they don't seem to come near me but my stubborn buggy buddy is plagued by them with shorts and sandals.......I just shake my head in disbelief that after it happening time after time he still does it. Sorry Bob I know change comes hard for ya -
Keep fingers out of gill plates......on the finger lakes

There are many reasons that folks usually don't share specifics on here and one of the main ones is similar in principle to the issue with mentioning stream fishing data and spot burning. many people see the info on here and places can get fished out. The issue is especially relevant to perch and crappies as they are a "schooling" fish. Some people feel that the supply of these fish is unlimited and that no matter how many are taken they just replenish themselves "magically".somehow. It takes crappies and perch quite awhile to mature and since they aren't protected during spawning or at any other times of the season they are quite vulnerable despite the magical thinking of the naysayers. The trout and salmon fishing on open lakes is a very different animal because the fish are dispersed within the fishery rather than concentrated in major schools and they are protected by regulations during much of the spawning season.....big difference. Usually information regarding these species is transmitted by PM on here rather than being posted generally.

The fleas will usually be present until the water temps come down in the Fall. The fleas are not always clustered in every spot or in all strata within the water column. This is probably why some folks get into them in concentrations that differ throughout the lakes as well as within a given lake. The fishook type of flea seems the most problemmatic and most difficult to remove. In short, you can't rely on second hand information and should prepare for the worst until Fall water temp reduction.

Fish poisoning can take many forms because they have a plethora of bacteria on them. Any cut is particularly vulnerable. My son found that out a couple years ago ice fishing and a 16 lb pike he released nailed him badly and he had to eventually get antibiotics to curb the infection. It can lead to blood poisoning and potentially death if gets to the heart so it is nothing to mess around with. I carry antibacterial hand sanitizer on board the boat and triple antibiotic cream in an emergency kit as well -
