  1. Good advice Murphy.....you wouldn't be sorry. In addition to the latest info has some nice tackle there too some of which is hard to find in other of the places around here.
  2. Hope it wasn't because too many idiots were creating wakes. we saw some of them the other day both in channel and in the bay itself A couple even went full tilt back to the ramp passing us to get in before us when we were going 5 mph. Takes all kinds I guess.
  3. Good report....nothing like family life and entertaining in-laws eh Bob?
  4. We are looking forward to it and hope to see some LOU folks there.....kinda like the LOU-all a few years ago. The South Seneca Sportsman's Club is a real nice venue too.
  5. Guess that new boat is getting a good workout Bill
  6. Good going .....sure doesn't get any better than that
  7. Great pic of the lighthouse and you were hanging with the right folks they know their stuff
  8. Nice report Keith and sounds as though you guys had a great time of it......kings rock!
  9. Problem comes when you are solo and the hook is in your hand or wrist. I once had Rapala hook in my shoulder fishing solo without a shirt on. Asked a guy at launch to take needle nosed pliers and bring the hook back through skin so barb exposed and then cut the barb. He said " I think I'm going to be sick" so I loaded my boat on trailer and went to E/R. I said to nurse "this is a little embarrassing" and she said. Oh this is nothing....we had a guy in here about a half hour ago that had a treble hook embedded in his butt and we had to cut his pants off to remove it" I left feeling a bit better.
  10. I use Church walleye boards for 300 or less without problems as long as it isn't real rough water just running spoons or sticks without attractors from them.
  11. Think about what happens when you bring in the flasher/fly with slider option even without a fish the slider leader will be wrapped around the fly set-up so why give yourself a needless headache? As far as the conventional slider/main line setup: some of it depends on what you want to achieve. For example if you want the spoon on slider to actively go up and down some on the main line while trolling use lighter weight spoons that will want to slide up and down a little better on the main line. Heavier spoons tend to nest more securely in the bow of the main line. Slider leader length can also influence action of a given lure (e.g. 2 ft. vs. 8 ft).
  12. Another thing that can be done to allow line through the line guide (if done carefully) is to open up the line guide just a slight bit (e.g..by wedging a large screwdriver)It helps let swivels through too and doesn't create any problems (I have had ten of them that way for years).
  13. That is a beauty for there Justin. Those kids look very happy with their catch....nice work man.
  14. After years of use with about all of them I settled on the 124 mm Deeper Divers as my main "go to" for late Spring/Summer, and Fall use. They approximate 2 to 1 ratio for letting out wire and in some cases (slow speeds) about 1 1/2 to 1 ratio. I have had them bang bottom in 155 ft of water in the past
  15. My son and i were on the water at 5:30AM. NW wind and 3 ft rollers was supposed to be SW until later in Am according to report. We started in 100 ft and worked to the west against the waves picked up first fish in 137 ft of water on rigger with Carbon #14 Magnum spoon 85 ft on rigger (probably running about 77 ft and set back 35 ft. Second salmon came on same rigger same setup about an hour later in 149 ft. One fish about 10 lbs the other pushing 20. Note the large lamprey still attached about 2 ft long. Poor fella left this Earth without his head We had one more massive hit on wire setup out 185 over 138 ft with white home made white fly behind Wonderbread glow flasher and he made huge runs and finally spit the fly way off in the distance.Speed about 2.5-2.7 for each fish. We knocked off at noon as the heat was really set in. Fleas were there but very moderate. Also checked out area out to about 190 or so nothing there....a lot of debris floating around out there (sticks, branches 2x4's, plastic bags, etc.).

    Canandaigua Canandaigua

West side south end straight down 21 south to Woodville.
  17. Looks like an abrasion then it severed. Could be a fish attempted to grab things above where you wanted it or it may have tangled with something like wire below somehow.....doesn't look like a clean cut

    Canandaigua Canandaigua

Unless just fishing very early in the AM until about 9:30 or 10 am fish the south end. This is the height of the recreational boating season and the north end launch can be a real zoo even on weekdays. There is usually less boat traffic at the south end. Small Sutton spoons (e.g. #5, #8 etc.) work well with the rainbows if you have them. Number 35's were working well on the lakers a short time ago. The rainbows also like small #7 and 9 Rapalas and Bomber Long A's especially in the gold/orange belly version. The area out toward the middle near Vine valley and the Bristol Harbor condos usually has both rainbows and lakers and the occasional brown, Speed:2.4-3.2 with frequent turns.
  19. My son and I plan to fish it and look forward to the BarBQ as well
  20. Nice going Bill Thanks for the report. last pic fish had great coloration too. Hope to go tomorrow.
  21. Canandaigua is way too busy with recreational boating right now making it difficult if not impossible to fish productively after 9 or 10 AM. Jigging for lakers is the best way to go on Keuka and as mentioned the Branchport or Hammondsport sections are a little less crowded with the recreational boaters. It is mainly a matter of locating fish in deeper water (e.g. 80 ft or deeper as smallies suspend out there up to about that deep this time of the season) that look like lakers and either drift over them or anchor up just outside them at the edge and vertical jig with 1-2 oz. jigs with shad imitations or white tubes and other related things like Kastmasters. I think a lot of the specific techniques have been previously mentioned on here so you may want to search for that info.
  22. Just a suggestion: Although the retail marketed bimini's may work the best solution is to have one custom made for your particular situation and boat by a competent canvas person; that way you have input into the process itself. Many of the manufactured bimini's have various shortcomings which can be avoided if you have a thorough knowledge of your boat and just what you are looking for. If you are anywhere Sodus Point. Contact John Mann of Sodus Bay Canvas. He is the best around and has seen and dealt with every canvas situation imaginable. Phone: 315-871-6400
  23. WTG Jeremy You have your priorities in life correct. The girls may eventually come back to fishing even after they "discover" boys after the early exposure. Always good to see good parenting these days.
  24. As with an auxillary trolling motor an anchor can save your butt in an emergency when your main motor dies instead of drifting hopelessly across the pond
