It is possible that the folks that were using it yesterday are still out on the water trying to scrape the fleas off it Seriously though even the wire isn't immune to the fleas right now.
I believe the above post was meant to say that Cortland Flea Flicker has been discontinued but Sea Flee monofilament from Bloodrun is still available. It is helpful but like the rest of the lines not a "silver bullet" when heavy concentrations of fleas are encountered especially the fishook type that seem to be the worst problem right now
I believe the reason the board looks different is that they now are manufactured by a different manufacturer as they were discontinued and unavailable for awhile
I think it is one of those things kinda like health stuff: early intervention and prevention is about what you are left with....and prevention is probably impossible....so that leaves early intervention which in this case means that although a MAJOR PIA lines need to be checked VERY frequently before the huge build ups. When you have multiple long setups out it becomes the task from hell and you have to ask yourself "What did I do in another life to deserve this"
Fishnet -Do you think it might be coming from internally in the boat from something like a live well, or storage compartment, through hull drain fitting on the outside being cracked, or lines going to or from them and when you get up on plane the water gives in to gravity and rushes to the bilge?
I got rid of a bunch of old ones on the fourth. I watered down a section of the lawn and taped tent spikes to them and put them in the ground and lit them with the strikers. A couple the strikers didn't work so I used one of the flares to set them off. Not great to have them just sittiing around and you can't just toss them in the trash without getting rid of the igniting stuff. When you buy the flares look closely at the expiration date. Sometimes these places put ones that only have 2 years left on them out and they are good 3 years from the date of manufacture so you can get screwed out of some time on them if not careful.
It is what I have been saying all along some of the lines work better than others when the fleas aren't HIGHLY CONCENTRATED but when they are in max. concentrations they will cling to about anything. The folks that are having apparent success in avoiding them and thinking they have miricle solutions are just not encountering these high concentrations. You have to wonder how the fish survive down there with the water clogged up like that.
A couple things come to mind that are related to the above posts;
The adult salmon that are spawning and pre-spawning even become a very different target. They are no longer actively feeding so the approach is to irritate them into striking out of territorial aggression rather than evoking a feeding reponse so you use highly active bright lures and attractors to get them to bite. Hooks need to be very sharp and sturdy as their mouths harden during this time. They may be anyplace in the water or water column homing in on their stream of origin so the fishing around steam mouths etc. is a good idea. Water temps may mean virtually nothing to them. The other option when the fishing gets tough for them is to go after younger salmon often with steelies and cohos in the mix, but this often will take you out deeper and you will have to choose your days carefully. September can be a real questionmark weatherwise from year to year with very different water temp profiles and lake conditions so it is impossible to clearly predict from year to year what it will be like or what part of the month it will be like as well.
It is heartbreaking to see your prized property messed up by thoughtless careless people and then YOU have to be the one to try to straighten out things after their thoughtless acts. I wish you the best of luck in getting the situation corrected. We can all identify with your plight and sympathize with you. I sincerely hope that these idiots will be identified and that you are properly compensated one way or the other. Hang in there.
Are you sure it was fireworks and not someone cooking on a grill on or next to the boats and a fire started in the grill and it got away from them? If so the one with the most damage was probably closest and may hold a clue as to the location where it started or identity perpetrator (s)?
Terrible jlogger we feel for ya man...I agree with Brian that folks should leave it to the pros when it comes to the fireworks...never should have been legalized. Even way back when I know one guy that lost his eye to them and another who lost 2 fingers and they were't even the powerful more complex ones sold today.
For the bigger 88's, 35's and 71's etc. I use 2/0 and for the other smaller spoons I use the 1/0 but with the very smallest Suttons like the 5 and 8 I don't change them becaause I feel that even the 1/0 probably would throw off the balance but I don't put any more pressure on them than I have to either as they are kinda flimsey.
Yes the rudd look kinda like a cross between a golden shiner and a carp and only the fins are reddish/orange colored. As lucky mentioned people release common goldfish (member of the carp family) and Coy as well into these lakes and they are invasives. There is a whole school of coy in Canandaigua Lake and often seen at the north end near Inn on the Lake so they could be present in Seneca for just such a reason too.
