You might want to check the accuracy of your temp meter.....58 sound pretty high to me right now anyway.

Good luck with it and have a great season

One of the biggest considerations is the dear waterflea and whether it is still present in great numbers, and they well may be at that time of the season. They seem especially fond of braided lines.so many folks use either 30 lb Big Game Monofilament and then leader off of it with 12-20 or more lb test fluorocarbon depending on where fished OR Bloodrun Sea Flee in 30 lb test and leader off that with the fluoro. That is what I use on the riggers... fishing the other stuff is you just take your chances and hope you don't run into a bunch of kings with braid and have the rod eylets and tip clog up while you are reeling them in. I have rods set up with lighter stuff for when the fleas dissipate usually in mid to late Fall when the water temps go back down. You could also splice in a length of the mono with braid backing and fluoro leader so that the mono is all that rides down in the water but with a 30 the capacity won't be great; especially for the king potential when spooling can become a reality I use separate setups for Lake O and the Fingers.

Probably somone would rather cut off an arm or leg first Good luck

A few things to consider right off the bat... Is your boat wide enough to run a third rigger off the transom? If you don't have enough separationyou could wrap the wire up in the prop (more easily than you think). Off the middle of the back is not the only option on some boats again it depends on your boat. I have three downriggers with extendable booms and I sometimes run two on one side and one on the other and on the other side run wires etc.You can manipulate things so that on the side with two one goes 45 degrees off the back or straight back (my choice) and it is on the opposite of my kicker so no problem. The other on that side is straight out at 90 degrees with the boom slightly extended. Never have had a problem. Mine are set up in gimbals so I can switch everything out as needed and even pull a downrigger and run other stuff in its place if I need to. Even with the downiigger at 90 degrees I can still deploy boards etc. Just something to think about. Unless you have a very wide transom having wire anywhere close to the prop of your main motor is risky (e.g. unforseen steep turn from wind etc.). It shouldn't prevent you from exploring the idea but just something to think about beforehand

X4d vs XD fish hawk
Sk8man replied to hookedupf7's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I recently bought the X4D and if I had it to do over I'd do the same thing By the way, the Bluetooth capability gives you the ability to have additional display on your cellphone so for example my son can view the same info as on the X4D display when seated away from it elsewhere or up front in the boat. Maybe not a necessity but nice to have. The biggest thing was already mentioned the actual depth that the weight is running/speed gives you an idea when compared with surface speed about possible current and variations in troilling speed and how that influences the position of yor lure -

Hey Justin do you keep your knife obsession in a glass case?

Might want to check the sensitivity gain setting for starters

I never did get the Cutco fillet knife so maybe it is time to re-evaluate getting one myself if it passed Scott's test

Is it ever encouraging to see so many mid sized fish looking very healthy and plentiful at this point in the season. -

They are also VERY expensive. We paid over $1,000 for a regular set because our friend's kid was selling them and was in college and we wanted to help him out. They are good knives but the pricing is VERY inflated for what you get. The serrated edged ones have to be sent back to the factory tobe sharpened although I don't think this is true for the fillet knife. I think they make a 5 7/8 and a 7 7/8 inch as I recall.

Although it depends on what you are fishing for to some degree in general small to medium sized spoons but in the Spring when adult sized sawbellies inhabit the shallows for spawning larger spoons work as well so matching to the size of the bait available can be a good idea. On Seneca Sutton spoons trolled relatively slowly and slower the larger the spoons work real well but basically experiment with anything you have and change out frequently until you get a winner. The way Seneca has been lately in recent years don't expect to be filling your box in short order....you'll have to work for them....if fishing for lakers get ahold of some gambler rigs and you'll be on the right track. The most recent diary results suggest that it takes about 5 hrs. per fish average on Seneca right now and about 44 % of the trips went fishless which compares with the data from the late seventies out there when it was tough fishing while Cayuga Lake has been on fire so temper your expectations and fish hard. Don'tr be afraid to keep changing up things.Seneca is a wonderful lake and you can have a lot of fun out there regardless if you look at it as a "challenge".

I should imagine they are still running in some streams up that way because the water temps are still quite a ways behind schedule so wherever they can be taken legally is the way I'd be going just cull the smallest mixed with the spawners
