  1. Geez Jeff that is unfortunate... may have been a "bad day" or something? The Dot Com and Wicked Pissah dock at the other side of the harbor on the west side at the marina there but they weren't anywhere aruond when we were sightseeing there. We did see the Bounty Hunter parked there and later someone we talked with said he still charters and fishes but got out of the show....
  2. Holy cow Billy... and I don't even do social media
  3. You won't be sorry they are the absolute best in quality service
  4. Good luck Cornelis. Stellwagen is really great and Jeffreys Ledge and Tillies Bank are others that are relatively close to there too. Its all good.
  5. Mike makes a good point here....I've had them go from reading good detail to just picking up bottom and that was all and then nothing and it seemed to be the life of the transducer; not necessarily something on the face of it although sometimes dirt or other stuff from trailering (e.g.road crap) or from algae while sitting for long periods in the water can affect performance. You do have to be careful what you use on them to clean the FACE area though and nothing the least bit oily and not to drop them etc.
  6. On the way back from visiting close friends in Freeport Maine my wife thoughtfully gave me an early birthday present of staying in Gloucester, Mass for a couple days so after stopping at the Kittery Trading Post (a must do for ANY fisherman) and stocking up we arrived in Gloucester. I won't bore folks with all the details but our new found friend Tina G. actually personally knows the stars of the show Wicked Tuna which is my favorite TV show and I know many folks on LOU follow it as well...and sometimes fishes with Dave Marciano, captain of Hard Merchandiise. Tina asked if I wanted to meet him and of course I said (SURE). We met with Dave and his wife Nancy (whose birthday it was yesterday) at a tackle shop where Tina works and I had a great opportunity to ask him about a wide range of things. He is for real folks....exactly what he appears to be on the show and more...as in our later people contacts I got some background info and stories from other Gloucester folks on Dave and they adore the guy and I might add the Gloucester folks are some of the most approachable friendly people you'll meet . The folks where he does charters said he is the fastest and best fish cleaner in Gloucester. I had always wanted to thank him on behalf of my fellow veterans for all he does with them and did so and it was very rewarding having the opportunity in person. Dave was in the middle of moving the Hard Merchandise from the dock at Rocky Neck to its new location in front of the Gloucester House restaurant that day so he was pretty busy later and my wife and I joined Tina and Daves wife Nancy and another lady for lunch at the restaurant for much of the afternoon. Tina is one of the most knowledgable fisherpersons I have ever encountered and she filled me in on many questions I had regarding the things left out of the show such as bait rigging etc and she graciously filled me in on everything I asked and had a bunch of stories as well. She personally knows the other participants in the Wicked Tuna show and gave me a lot of scoop on them as well. Dave told me some things about the show that I can share but one major development that I promised I wouldn't say anything about right now and I will honor that. I can say that the show has been renewed recently for the next four seasons, Dave's nephew Jason (Jay) is back from Alaska and will be fishing with them again, and despite the characterization of Dot Com's Dave Carraro he is actually a real nice guy according to Tina and was "selected" to be the "bad guy" on the show. Anyway, I had a blast and it was an incredible birthday present from my wonderful wife. Thanks a bunch Tina if you happen to see this....
  7. Congratulations on the store Jason....great to see.
  8. What will you do with all your spare time Stan?
  9. Cool! Hey Dave it looked like Sheila was on that rod like ti had a $500 shopping card attached to it
  10. Best of luck to you out there. Stay safe and have fun...that is what it is all about
  11. Probably Otter boards.
  12. The 30 lb mono is the main downrigger line followed by a #8 Spro swivel to which a section of fluoro leader (length is personal preference I use about 25 ft). I use 12 lb fluoro for the Finger lakes and 20 lb for Lake O. To that a solid ring ball bearing swivel is attached. This is for spoons from the down riggers and possibly sticks althogh smetimes I omit the swivel for sticks. If you plan to run flasher/fly or Spinny/fly from the riggers no extra leader is necessary and same for wire line just attach the swivel of the main line to the attractor on the riggers and to the dipsy with the wire. Hope this helps

    Seneca Fish Camp

Good luck Ed. Hope we can connect in person this season for sure.` Les
  14. I should think it would be labeled "water resistant' rather than waterproof
  15. About that probably today as it was 39.8 (on two devices) yesterday afternoon on Canandaigua.
  16. Use sliders instead of stacking maximize the number of lures in the water and minimize rod use. Sliders usually catch more fish too.
  17. Nice going Brian
  18. 38.2 - 38.5 Canandaigua north end today
  19. Geez Jim time to break out your bathing suit
  20. Ah OK thanks. If I decide to do it I'm going to rig some of the heavy duty ones on gimbal mounts but I still haven't made up my mind to spring for them.....
  21. pa223 are yours like the first pic?
  22. The 25 inch shaft IS the extra long shaft. The issue would mainly depend on the range of adjustment in the bracket and how it is positioned on the transom. A plus about a longer shaft is that it often will give better steering and not let the prop come out of the water with large waves like short shaft motors often do. On the downside they need to come out of the water when you choose to use the main motor at speed or they drag in the water with a rooster tail and perhaps the prop spinning aand none of that is good for the lower unit etc.
  23. Aside from possible issues relating to salt water use, age of motor and the care given the motor,. you may wish to check the length of the shaft as many of the sailboat motors are extra long shaft and depending on your boat and kicker setup (bracket or transom installation) the motor may reside too low and be actually riding in the water and "dragging" when you have it in the maximum upward position during non-trolling times.
  24. I believe these particular models are designed for dipsy use and appear to be sturdier than the other models commonly used and which are less expensive.
