Yes the 2016 I have like FishnChef and like that pictured above from outlineoutboards has the 6 amp alternator that charges the battery. It needs to be run fairly fast to do much charging by the way not just trolling along slowly for the max. charge rate. Sweet motor and has higher thrust than my 9.9 Johnson 2 stroke had and a little less speed at top end. -
Victorinox for me but here is a good intro place to start looking http://www.bestfilletknifereviews.com/

Something that bears mentioning lest we forget fishing in the ocean is a VERY dangerous undertaking. Gloucester has lost more than its share of fishermen over the centuries and is the oldest fishing seaport in the US. It was brought home extremely to the point when visiting the memorial to those fishermen that lost their lives over the nearly 400 years of the seaports existence . Nearly 4,000 fishermen lost their lives between the mid 1800's and the early 1900's with a total of 5,368 until 2011 according to the plaques with their names at the site. Very touching. -
Welcome Good introduction I think you will enjoy it here and I know there are others on here that fish right where you do. It is on and off there but try some egg sacks on bottom as well as sawbellies as the trout and salmon cruise around in there and when they are in it can be a blast. It can also be productive to fish bait with slip bobbers right there and perhaps jig with another rod to draw fish in to the baited rods from nearby. Good luck.

You may wish to carefully consult the installation directions for that particular transducer as they can be slightly different for them as well as for the particular hull design of your boat. Often the hull curvature at the bottom of the transom throws people off as they are looking at the bottom of the boat rather than the ground itself and then orient the transducer facing somewhat outward rather than straight downward and when they get up on plane the cone angle is pitched outward and not down so they lose the bottom. The face of the transducer usually needs to be ever so slightly angled either inward or outward toward the back according to the degrees mentioned in the installation directions.and placed as far as possible away from any turbulence factors (e.g. ridges or flow areas etc. in the hull). -

John - I didn'r think to ask that one... a good question but I think they do troll for them in North Carolina when they fish during the winter season. They basically skip the lures or bait across and near the surface behind "birds" which are kinda like our version of planer boards and troll quite fast compared with our "world" -

Just an FYI as far as the Tohatsu vs. Merc. They are similar in that they are both manufactured by the same company but they are not identical when you look at the specs. I have the Tohatsu 9.8 (2016) and it is constructed a bit lighter than the Merc 9.9 of similar model weight-wise too which is one reasons I bought it as I didn't want to over power my bracket. I am very satisfied with the Tohatsu though and I bought it from Outboardsonline. -

Geez Jeff that is unfortunate... may have been a "bad day" or something? The Dot Com and Wicked Pissah dock at the other side of the harbor on the west side at the marina there but they weren't anywhere aruond when we were sightseeing there. We did see the Bounty Hunter parked there and later someone we talked with said he still charters and fishes but got out of the show.... -

Mike makes a good point here....I've had them go from reading good detail to just picking up bottom and that was all and then nothing and it seemed to be the life of the transducer; not necessarily something on the face of it although sometimes dirt or other stuff from trailering (e.g.road crap) or from algae while sitting for long periods in the water can affect performance. You do have to be careful what you use on them to clean the FACE area though and nothing the least bit oily and not to drop them etc.

On the way back from visiting close friends in Freeport Maine my wife thoughtfully gave me an early birthday present of staying in Gloucester, Mass for a couple days so after stopping at the Kittery Trading Post (a must do for ANY fisherman) and stocking up we arrived in Gloucester. I won't bore folks with all the details but our new found friend Tina G. actually personally knows the stars of the show Wicked Tuna which is my favorite TV show and I know many folks on LOU follow it as well...and sometimes fishes with Dave Marciano, captain of Hard Merchandiise. Tina asked if I wanted to meet him and of course I said (SURE). We met with Dave and his wife Nancy (whose birthday it was yesterday) at a tackle shop where Tina works and I had a great opportunity to ask him about a wide range of things. He is for real folks....exactly what he appears to be on the show and more...as in our later people contacts I got some background info and stories from other Gloucester folks on Dave and they adore the guy and I might add the Gloucester folks are some of the most approachable friendly people you'll meet . The folks where he does charters said he is the fastest and best fish cleaner in Gloucester. I had always wanted to thank him on behalf of my fellow veterans for all he does with them and did so and it was very rewarding having the opportunity in person. Dave was in the middle of moving the Hard Merchandise from the dock at Rocky Neck to its new location in front of the Gloucester House restaurant that day so he was pretty busy later and my wife and I joined Tina and Daves wife Nancy and another lady for lunch at the restaurant for much of the afternoon. Tina is one of the most knowledgable fisherpersons I have ever encountered and she filled me in on many questions I had regarding the things left out of the show such as bait rigging etc and she graciously filled me in on everything I asked and had a bunch of stories as well. She personally knows the other participants in the Wicked Tuna show and gave me a lot of scoop on them as well. Dave told me some things about the show that I can share but one major development that I promised I wouldn't say anything about right now and I will honor that. I can say that the show has been renewed recently for the next four seasons, Dave's nephew Jason (Jay) is back from Alaska and will be fishing with them again, and despite the characterization of Dot Com's Dave Carraro he is actually a real nice guy according to Tina and was "selected" to be the "bad guy" on the show. Anyway, I had a blast and it was an incredible birthday present from my wonderful wife. Thanks a bunch Tina if you happen to see this....

Congratulations on the store Jason....great to see.

The 30 lb mono is the main downrigger line followed by a #8 Spro swivel to which a section of fluoro leader (length is personal preference I use about 25 ft). I use 12 lb fluoro for the Finger lakes and 20 lb for Lake O. To that a solid ring ball bearing swivel is attached. This is for spoons from the down riggers and possibly sticks althogh smetimes I omit the swivel for sticks. If you plan to run flasher/fly or Spinny/fly from the riggers no extra leader is necessary and same for wire line just attach the swivel of the main line to the attractor on the riggers and to the dipsy with the wire. Hope this helps
